According to Shunsui when facing Stark, he said it'd only take Hitsugaya another 100 years to surpass him. Consideringt he fact that in TYBW Shunsui is the captain commander, and that we do get to eventually see how strong he is, I do think Toshiro will surpass Yamamoto if you give him a millennia or two. He also has the ultimate ice zanpakutou while Yamamoto had the ultimate fire zanpakutou, so he has the abilities to reach that same level of devastation.

Yhwach mentioning Yamamoto being weaker was just "Mentally" he specifies that he was more ruthless back in the day and that he would be in better form/stronger with 2 arms. Peak Yamamoto was him in the Arrancar arc. He didn't have most of the abilities he showcased in Tybw arc, and his Bankai wasn't on that lvl back in the day.

It's also crazy that we know for sure that in Hell, there are overwhelmingly strong characters because only people with Reii Rank 3 or higher get sent to hell. Imagine there is someone with Reii one in there since dozens of years and got massively stronger over those times. There might people way above Yamamoto even in there. I mean, the tybw arc made it pretty clear that there is a big difference between Tosh and Rukia, though. But i get what you're saying. Yeah, I've seen the arguments for "opposite of Ryujin," but opposite of something doesn't mean automatically surpassing someone. Also, the powers are not only dependent by temperature but more on the powersystem Reiryoku. Give Yamamotos Bankai to Hanataro, and he could only cook eggs with his strongest attack. I mean, theoretically, any talented/young and already strong character could surpass Yamamoto by the end of the Hell arc if Kubo includes concepts in it he already made himself but never used/mentioned it in any original manga source like "Beyond Bankai" for example. The Visoreds can have Ressurection for example or even Segunda Etap and use it togheter with Bankai etc. Arrancars like Grim, Nel, Harribel can leant Segunda Etap etc. The question is how likely is it for any "specific" person to Surpass Yamamoto. And the chances for Rukia are way lower than for Toshiro for example.

Kyoraku is being moddest. When it comes to bleach Kendo, Hakuda, and Kido are not enough to class yourself as the strongest. The abilities of your Shikai, and Bankai are also what make some strong, and some weak. Toshiro could train as much as he wants, become as fluent in everything he wants, and there are still some people he can't beat. Shunsui is one of them, and so is Yamamoto. It just cannot happen. Shunsui's Bankai would rip Toshiro to shreds, and so would Yamamoto's.

People not ready to hear this, but the feats, stats and scaling Toshiro showed against Vollstandig Gerard who was Miracle Amped by Bankai Kenpachi are better than the feats, stats and scaling showed by Bankai Yamamoto against Royd who’s 70-80% of Base Yhwach. I’ll go stat by stat Strength- Toshiro. With a one handed swing he cut through Vollstandig Gerard’s Spirit Weapon…with spiritual weapons being strong enough to withstand attacks that could one shot the user’s body. Meanwhile Yamamoto with one arm couldn’t break through Royd’s blut with his physical strength AP- Yamamoto. His Bankai’s AP bridges into the realm of hax where it’s straight up existence erasure via physical contact and vaporizing heat at range and around his body. Aizen and Yhwach specifically pointed out that what made Yama dangerous wasn’t his stats, but his Zanpakuto’s offensive power. Toshiro’s AP if you were to power scale it would be higher than Yama’s numbers wise but he doesn’t have dura neg like Yama Durability- Toshiro. Same as strength but inverse. As for feats, Yama got damaged by Base Aizen, was implied to be able to be damaged by Royd’s arrow, was implied to be able to be killed by Royd’s church song, and was killed by Base Yhwach’s arrow/sword etc. Toshiro took hits from Gerard who’s stronger than Royd by a large margin Speed- Toshiro. Toshiro even in his immature Bankai was able to outspeed Gerard…who was able to tag Shikai Kenny w/o the Eyepatch…and reacted to Shikai Kenny himself. In Adult form he also outspeed Vollstandig Gerard who was additionally Miracle Amped by Bankai Kenny. Yama while bloodlusted and rage amped wasn’t fast enough to hit Royd with his blade in melee range and needed to psychologically damage Royd and get him to rush forwards recklessly in order to hit him with North IQ/BIQ- Yama. Showed somewhat against Aizen and heavily against Royd. People think Yama vs Royd was a power flex on Yama’s end, but it was an BIQ flex. Royd quite literally countered almost all of Yama’s Bankai abilities on the fly and developed ways to damage Yama through West on the spot, and Yama realizing this opted to use psychological damage and mental warfare with South. Yama tried to bulldoze through Royd with his raw stats and power with East and West, failed, and then used South to nerf Royd’s resolve and mental state which both weakens your power and got Royd to run head first into North. Toshiro showed his BIQ in many fights but Yama’s age and experience give him the edge, though Toshiro is one of the smarter Shinigami. One thing I will say is that Toshiro uses his weapon and abilities more creatively than Yama does Skill- Yama. Master of all 4 Shinigami arts beyond any other Shinigami skill wise. Toshiro is a master of the Shinigami arts but not to the same extent. Hax- Toshiro. His Mature Bankai is basically conceptual power null that can negate abilities as powerful as legit concepts stemming from the Soul King’s Heart itself, with the added ability of freezing all forms of matter and energy. He can flash freeze anything with a hand gesture or if you touch him, and his range at his weakest point in the story outside of Flashbacks was 7 miles….in Shikai….so imagine his range in immature Bankai

Your mistake is thinking Yamamoto was going all out. He himself said he was holding back specifically because he wanted Yhwach (Royd) to draw his sword and then he activated Bankai to turn the totality of Yhwach (Royd) to ash in the most overbearing way possible. He even gave Yhwach (Royd) a full tour of his Bankai before instantly killing him with North purely to vent his hatred and grief, as he told Yhwach (Royd). If Yamamoto went all out with intent to kill from the start, Yhwach (Royd) would have died to Base Yamamoto, never knowing how or why. We see this when Yamamoto takes Kenpachi from him at the very start. If Yamamoto wanted, Royd would have lost his head then and there. Immature Bankai Toshiro was able to physically deflect/parry attacks from Shikai Kenny w/o the Eyepatch and Gerard’s giant form which = or surpassed Zaraki in physical strength. Mature Bankai Toshiro with a casual one handed swing was able to cleanly cut a Bankai Kenpachi Miracle Amp + Vollstandig Amped Gerard’s sword in two, with Spiritual Weapons being far more durable than the user’s physical body. In terms of physical strength, Yama wasn’t able to even cut off Royd’s arm and only sliced a little bit into his Blut amped arm. Even if you say that was Shikai Yama and not Bankai Yama, his Bankai doesn’t increase his physical stats, it amps his fire’s potency Toshiro takes it in physical stats

I believe he has the potential... But his personality and attitude will block him from getting that far... A good example of this, despite getting dogged in most of his fights, when he was being controlled as a zombie, he decimated his opponents effortlessly in ways he never displayed when he actually had full control of himself... Sure his adult form was impressive, but imagine a zombie version of his adult form, it's way more deadly and cold, if he was to adapt that same mindset to his fighting style, personality, and attitude, he could easily become one of the most formidable Captains in the whole gotei 13.

A bunch of people can become stronger than Yamamoto if they lived to his age. Because that's the advantage Yamamoto has over the rest of the Captains, the head start. Hitsugaya surpasses Kyoraku's potential in a 10th of the time. Hitsugaya and Kenpachi are the most gifted Soul Reapers ever born by miles.

I mean, it depends on their Reiryoku "potential" limit. There aren't many with such high potential limits. The only ones we know are Toshiro, Zaraki, and probably Byakuya in the Gotei, at least without any special influence.

Takeru liked Sojo so much, he decided to make him a solo villain, but it's likely he repurposed his twin for the original wielder of the Shinuchi. I love how Hokozono''s subtly hinted at Sojo's flashback having more relevance than it originally seemed and i cant wait to see more strings unravel. A problem with modern animanga is how they jump the gun at revealing stuff, I'm glad KB has a more natural approach, almost reminding me of HxH in that sense. Id bet my money that witnessing the Shinuchi's power started Sojo's fascination with the Sacred Blades. He seemed too messed up in the head to care about solely revenge.

Some manga readers keep saying Toshiro's Bankai fully developed can freeze everything without diving into any details about how it would be stronger than Rukia's bankai which freezes things at absolute zero. In the anime and manga up to the end, yes Toshiro's bankai is technically stronger because Rukia's still remains incomplete. But let's bring it into what if territory, Rukia's bankai fully controlled and developed vs Hitsugaia's also fully developed. Hitsugaia's bankai freezes literally everything including reishi by utilizing moisture in the atmosphere(which doesn't seem feasible even within fantasy), but Rukia's bankai just borders on supernatural whereby it just sucks heat out of everything, thus being able to freeze at absolute zero, mechanics behind their power aside, Rukia's seems slightly stronger unless Hitsugaia gains some "my temperature can't change" power and is able to move within range to freeze Rukia's reishi

Hyoryūnmaru also depends on environmental moisture to strengthen is attacks. Ryūujinkakka saps the moisture out of everything in its vicinity and eventually sets everything ablaze. It wouldn't be an easy fight for Tōshiro.

He’s in that child like form because his body can’t fully withstand the amount of reiatsu he contains. In order to wield a living zanpakuto you need to have enough to withstand it. Hyorinmaru is the strongest ice/water zanpakuto and chose Tosh because of how strong he was on his own. He really is downplayed a lot. I mean his true form of Bankai was held until the final arc.

Toshiro relis on his sword too much. Yamamoto had strongest one, but it didn't make him the strongest shinigami. Yamamoto himself was the strongest shinigami with or without his sword. Many times Toshiro is fighting he points out that his sword is the strongest ice type, but when his bankai was stolen, he'd lost. And even when he found alternative, he still lost.

I don’t think Toshiro at his peak would ever be stronger than Old Man Yama, but I do think he’d be close. Keep in mind, his ice powers go beyond just freezing people. He can flash freeze anything with a wave of his hand, and whatever he freezes loses all of its abilities. He can literally FREEZE ABILITIES. The only reason I don’t think he wins is because Yama could melt Toshiro’s bankai, even his adult bankai, just by unleashing Zanka no Tachi

Yama wasn't always yama, Hitsugaya is the equivalent of an 10 yo being who was stronger than halve of the 200+ yo captains, his powers isn't weaker than most, more over, shunsui(who's power I'd place in 4th or 5th) stated, Hitsugaya was so talented he'd probably catch up to him in a 100 years or so.

Hitsugaya's problem when trying to compete with Yamamoto is the conditions in which he grew and developed. Yamamoto became a balding old man while sereitei was still a lawless warzone with people like Unohana running around, so he had a massive advantage in combat experience and challenge to overcome that Hitsugaya will never have. Yamamoto is a monster above his peers from a time when monsters were common.

His powers can practically be considered the polar opposite of Ryukin Jakka. His reiatsu in his mature form is also notable. We know that Kyoraku believes that Hitsugaya will surpass him in a century and his aged up version is precisely that. Him growing older, potentially more rhan a century older, to use his power that could stop Aschetoning Gerard. And if that level of power can be quite above Kyoraku's then, there is not too big of a gap for Hitsugaya to cover with training.
