Nonstick cooking spray, for greasing
Pizza Dough
⅔ cup water
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon instant yeast
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
1½ cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
1 teaspoon kosher salt
Vegan Mozzarella
¼ cup raw cashews, soaked in boiling water for 20 minutes, then drained
½ cup water
2 tablespoons refined coconut oil
1 teaspoon white miso
½ teaspoon nutritional yeast
2 tablespoons tapioca starch
2 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon granulated sugar
Seitan “Pepperoni”
½ cup vital wheat gluten
1 tablespoon and 2 teaspoons nutritional yeast
1 tablespoon instant tapioca
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
¾ teaspoon whole fennel seeds
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon kosher salt
¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
¼ teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
¼ cup water
1 tablespoon plus 1½ teaspoons tomato paste
1½ teaspoons soy sauce
1½ teaspoons refined coconut oil
½ teaspoon brown sugar
½ teaspoon molasses
Spicy Italian “Sausage”
4 ounces extra-firm tofu, pressed
¼ cup walnuts
1 large garlic clove
1 teaspoon whole fennel seeds
½-1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon vegan Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
½ teaspoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon refined coconut oil
1 teaspoon kosher salt
2 ounces baby bella mushrooms, stemmed
1½ tablespoons cornstarch
2 teaspoons all-purpose flour
Assembly
Cornmeal, for dusting
⅓ cup pizza sauce
1 jalapeño, thinly sliced, seeded if desired
2 teaspoons chili oil

Crust is the defining element of a pizza. The best pizza sauce in the world will be ruined by a mediocre crust, and yet even sauce from a jar can make a decent pizza if the crust is good. Look at reviews comparing different pizzas, say NY vs Chicago, nearly always the crust is discussed as what makes one or the other “the best.” As an anecdote, last week my husband made is signature Chicago-style deep dish vegan pizza and half way through making it, he realized that the leftover pizza sauce he planned to use had gone bad and was unusable, so he substituted barbecue sauce from a squeeze bottle, and while the resulting pizza was not his best work, it was still ok (biggest problem: it was too sweet), yet one time, when everything else in the pizza was essentially perfect, he had forgotten to add salt when making the dough for the crust, and the resulting pizza tasted bland and was disappointing, despite having an excellent home made sauce and the usual assortment of fresh veggies and vegan cheese.

When I was in Italy (at least the area I was in) the most common Pizza was just sauce, olive oil and sometimes basil; so it just happened to be vegan.

That’s the Marinara, which is a really common pizza and almost considered the “original” :) that’s all you need. Soft pillowy crust and tangy delicious sauce 🤤

As someone from the UK, the vegan cheese options here aren't great. In fact most of them are actually awful. So much so that I actually prefer to just make pizza without it. BUT I haven't tried making my own, so maybe I'll try to mozzarella recipe?

Tescos try sheese & add a little nutritional yeast as its not overly CHEESY as others tend to be! I'm a huge pizza lover & have tried many & made many but its one that ive found works really well to not overpower things!

You can save a ton of time by using store-bought vegan cheese and meat substitutes, and just make the crust from scratch. If you make a thin crust pizza it won’t even take long for the dough to rise, or to save even more time you can get premade vegan pizza dough.

Was it just me or did the cheese from pizza 108 look like when it's cold? I was a bit surprised there was virtually no cheese stretch on any of the pizzas. The homemade pizza crust resembled something like bread? There was also no real crunch of sound from it as it was being cut. Another interesting bit on the industrial meat production. I knew that pig waste was much harder to use, since it is toxic to even many plants and so cannot be used as typical manure. I didn't know it produces dead zones by depleting oxygen by fueling nitrogenous growths that consume other nutrients. That is also the same issue with nitrogen fertilizers, I believe. It is sad to hear

I stopped eating red meat but that was because it makes me sick. I have tried some meatless products and the only winner was a vegetarian chili that I now use instead of normal chili. But I don’t like the vegan cheeses most of the time. Also it seems like veganism uses gluten which can’t and it feels like I’ve lost so many options. That and I couldn’t give up seafood, I love it so much.
