Good on ya. I was out camping at a lake, down a long logging road in the BC mountains, in the middle of no where, and a cat found me late at night ( we thought it was a cougar, ha) . Kept trying to get in my tent and my car. Would just sit in the car afraid we would leave with out him. Meant to just give him a ride back to civilization. He decided he was coming with me, when we took him to the vet. He had a mind of his own, independent, strong, and affectionate. Is cruel as he was obviously domesticated and someone had abandoned him in the wilderness. Didn't know it at the time, but a good friend had found me. Amazingly known animal.

I had a dog that found us years and years ago that I never forgot. We had schnauzer at the time which we were not particularly bonded with but had moved to an apartment where she was very unhappy, too much noise of people coming and going. I recall the other dog as she circled our house daily wearing a path very quickly. Wished I had kept her. Take advantage when it happens as you may look back as i do more than 50 years later.

One day I saw a tiny kitten in a parking lot near my car, but it disappeared. I then drove 70 miles home. Three days passed and I drove to an airport to begin a business trip. As I was getting my suitcase out of my car, I heard, "Meow." I lifted my car's hood and was shocked to see that same kitten sitting on top of the engine. I took her home, returned to the airport, and caught a later flight. That was 15 years ago. As I write this, she is sleeping on my bed. Of course, her name is Traveler.

Yes we had a rescue dog! I heard through work that a friend was going to have to send a dog to the pound as they were moving and they couldn't bring their dog with them My husband agreed to meet the dog. She was a Pomeranian and she came to our house to visit for a weekend. We fell in love with her right away. When her owner had driven away she was beside herself until I went to her and drew her into my chest. She laid her head against me and let me console her. I had a beautiful bed ready for her with new toys and a baby blanket but she cried and knocked on our door. I opened the door and she flew onto our bed and slept at our feet all night. She slept there for as long as we had her. She was my dog and followed me around all weekend and to not get her anymore confused we called the owner and said we loved her and could we just keep her. I felt sorry for the owner as she cried because she loved her too. We had little Sarah for 10 1/2 years and she was the best pet either of us ever had. She was sweet with our grandchildren. We couldn't keep her away from the babies; she loved them as much as any of us. I could go on and on. We buried her out on our farm that she loved so much with a tree we planted in her honor. None of us have ever forgotten her and I hope I get to see her on the other side. I still miss her after almost 10 years. I'm so happy you rescued Poppy! You will never regret it. The only regret I have is that our Sarah did not get to live as long as a human.

Our family rescued a 3 months old kitty. On a bleak and stormy night our elderly cat was meowing loudly--a little kitty was at the sliding doors begging to come inside. We let him inside and he cuddled up to our elderly male cat who proceded to groom him. He followed Mimi everywhere but did not share eye contact with us humans--of course we fed him often but he felt safer hiding from us for some time. Today he is a much loved and cheeky member of our family and loves playing ball--catching the ball mid air and bouncing it against the ceder chest. He loves dribbling the ball like a soccer player. Every morning I awaken with a ball set in place where I step down from the bed. His name is Hana

I love that you adopted your puppy Poppy...she is a sweetheart....sadly you are quite correct there are way to many abandoned and stray dogs in Portugal. We live in the Algarve and we acquired our pupper when some dropped him over the wall of our garden and our vet reckons he was about 8 weeks old. We already had a dog that we brought from the UK named Sarah a little westie but she was a lot older than the pup and didnt have a lot of patience with him. He is now 9 years old but when he came to us he was full of ticks, fleas and worms he also had both types of mange which took months to get rid of, but I couldnt resist him and so we named him Tramp! The builders called him the terrorista, he would steal all the builders tools and bury them or chew them up...he did so much damage to shoes, socks, a/c remotes and garden furniture and he was a terrible thief...he would steal the builders lunches and the tilers knee pads but then he grew up and turned into the sweetest funniest dog ever!

We rescued a cat that came to our house and chose us just like Poopy chose you. She was pregnant, but not showing, because she was starved. We thought we were doing a great job putting some weight on her. 😂 She had her babies in our screened room on the back of our home. We had such an amazing experience with the kittens, and wouldn't trade it for the world. We found new homes for the kittens, but decided to keep the cat. We had her vaccinated, cleaned and fixed. She has been here for 7 years.

Yes, I rescued a white miniature poodle (only 12#) who had been abandoned along a very busy four lane highway. When we found her we thought she had been hit by a car so we immediately took her to the our vet. Through X-rays he determined her injuries were more conducive to abuse. He knew us from other pets we had and said he would allow us to take her home BUT only if we promised NOT to try and find her previous owners. We understood and gladly agreed. After months of helping her recover from 2 broken hips and other less serious injuries, her and I became inseparable. She was between 5-7 yrs old when we adopted her and she lived another 7 yrs. Every single day from adoption, Miss Paris seemed so grateful for our love and care. I’ve been so blessed with wonderful pets in my lifetime but this relationship was something very, very, special💗

She was pregnant and we lived back than in a motorhome and had only a terrace. We built a little box under the table were they were born. Lots of work to kept them clean. When the were 5 weeks they moved to the dog house which my husband built on the screened front porch. It was stressful but I have the beautiful memories of the 7 cuties she has born. I found for 6 of them with the help of the local animal shelter in Aljezur and their partner in Germany forever homes. One stays with her mother and my 9 year old dog which I adopted from Romania. We love them all ❣

Just found your vlog and would like to offer my thanks to you both for rescuing Poppy. She is a lovely little dog, so affectionate. There should be more folks willing to rescue animals. About 18 months ago we rescued a very skinny unwell snow white cat whose owner we later discovered had died. At first although would eat, he would not allow us to touch him but now seeks to be stroked. He is now a very healthy and happy "Puss" There was a worry that he would be a problem to our aviary birds however he never reacts to them flying around the aviaries. By the way, we have a flighted bird, a Caique who is 10 years old in the house; her name is Poppy!. Kudos to you both!

Such a heartwarming story. Poppy will be forever grateful. Here in Thailand abandoned dogs &cats are a national disgrace. I have a cat that was found abandoned in a temple at 6 weeks old. She is named Santa because she was found on Dec 25th and is now 9 years old. She has leukemia and kidney disease but thanks to a wonderful vet she is healthy and happy. Without Santa the last 2 Covid years would have been so much more difficult, but caring for her and enjoying her affection in the usual cat style made it so much less onerous. Poppy will bring so much to your lives and I salute you.

I’m so happy Poppy is home with you guys 🥰. About 9 years ago, we had a very similar situation, where a doggie showed up in our neighborhood, eventually in our front yard. Our daughter spent hours picking ticks and fleas off his body. Then we brought him in and bathed him, took him to our vet to have him scanned, and there was no micro chip. We checked with several shelters nearby to see if anyone was looking for him, and found out nobody was. He quickly became part of our family, and we named him Toby. Sadly, 8 months later he died of congestive heart failure. He was much older than we originally suspected. He was a schnauzer/poodle/? mix. He was the sweetest dog, and is still missed.

My son & I rescued a 6 wk old puppy that just wandered into our life. We were picking fruit together & she turned up in a car park we'd parked in after work. She was covered in fleas, with patches of skin missing. A litter of puppies had been abandoned In a box in the area. I suspect she is the one who got away. The missing fur was likely from urine burns due to being in a box with her litter. My (adult, autistic spectrum) son insisted on keeping her despite us sleeping in that car at the time while picking fruit. . It was not the ideal time at all! But we persevered & took her with us to work until the season finished. 4 years later, she has been my son's rock & my best friend. She helped my son recover from trauma after being bullied, and gave him a focus. She hasn't been an easy dog, compared to others I've had. I suspect she had trauma too, As a puppy I was a bit scared as to what I had taken on. She is Ridgeback gs staffy x. . But now - she is so sweet and loving with a big heart. She still has a feisty boisterous side but I absolutely trust her and can take a bone out of her mouth without any fear for my fingers!

Here in the US it is unusual to find dogs roaming wild. Not saying unheard of just nowhere as big of an issue as I see in other countries. But we have all kinds of rescue organizations. Other than one dog I have had as an adult (I tend to like 2 at a time) they have all been a rescue from a rescue center. One came from a woman in a pet store my son and I went to to get some new toys for our newest rescue (a black lab mix of some kind. We named her Roxy. My daughter saw her on a rescue site in Ohio and fell in love. The two of us drove half way to Pennsylvania to meet up with the organization and that’s how we got her) and she was grumbling to us about this puppy she had. She wished she didn’t. It was chewing everything in her house. She didn’t have time for her with the 2 jobs she had etc etc. I asked how old and she informed us 5 months. She told us she was keeping her in a cage in her basement and was looking for a muzzle to keep it from chewing on the cage. I said I think you need to find that dog a home where someone has time for her. She basically said You take her if you re so concerned. My son piped right up and said We ll take her! We followed her to her house and picked her up! So now I had two young dogs. Neither of which I knew much about! And this dog - who we named Danny - was some mix of Rottweiler and lab. At full growth she was 105 lbs!! Right now I have a lab/hound mix from an organization in North Carolina and a pit bull mix that my son basically bought off someone who was abusing her. She was so sick from worms etc that the vet said near dying. Once she was healthy my son drive up here to CT and “gifted” her to me! So happy he did though! Cats are a different story. They are everywhere. I ve taken in quite a few over the years. The one I have now my son found as a very young but grown cat. She was big pregnant. He was camping when he noticed her in the woods. Went home and built a small shelter for her to have her babies in. Fed her every day. Five kittens born soon after. We found homes for all 5 kittens and I took the mother. Got her spayed etc. She hid in my closet for months only coming out at night. I think she was feral but still young enough to take in. I ve had her 10 years now and she loves me and accepts my 2 now grown kids but hides when anyone else comes around. And still even I can only pet her on her terms. She has to initiate affectionate.

Hello from Greece 🇬🇷 The real reason I subscribed to your channel is because you kept the dog! I have a rescue of my own he is now around 10 years old and he was under a year old when I’ve found him! He is hunting dog as well. I hope Poppy will live a long and happy life with you!

Wonderful vlog Ricky. The renovated deck looks lovely and it seems as if Poppy instinctively knew that you were her destiny for a safe loving home.

Awww …how wonderful that you guys adopted Poppy, now Ted has a “little sister “ to keep him busy! ( we got two rescue fur-babies ourselves) You guys have hearts ♥️ of gold! Love the cover for your deck and your new seating! Best wishes and blessings.
