Hashtag United are a one-of-a-kind football and esports club, based in Essex, England. Formed in 2016 by Spencer Owen as a group of mates playing exhibition games, we now play in the 7th tier of English football, the Isthmian League North. We won our league in our first season in non-league football and were looking good for a second promotion when the 2019/20 season was voided, but after the 2020/21 season went the same way with us top of the Essex Senior League, we were eventually awarded promotion based on PPG over the two part seasons. In 2023 we won the Isthmian League North and will now play in the Isthmian Premier!
We merged with AFC Basildon Women in summer 2020 and formed our women's team, Hashtag United FC Women, who play in the 3rd tier of women's football, the FA Women's National League Southern Premier Division, after they also won their league in 2023. We also now have 40+ youth teams, reserve and development teams, an inclusive team and a walking football team...plus our esports team who play FIFA at the world's highest level. I cannot explain how frustrating it is to watch Greg Halford play. He walks around like he owns the place. His passes and effort is lazy. He gives away so many goals, loses men, half arsed tackles. Experience is a good thing, but when that experience becomes arrogance it’s a problem. He acts like he’s too good for this level.

I know the decision is done and there's nothing to be done about it now, but I simply do not understand how Lew Watson could not fit into this team. He plays with so much heart and is always in the mix. Three of my favorite Tags all moved on; Ricky Evans, JWL, and now Lew. I know it's part of the game, just difficult sometimes.

It is a higher league so the opponents are better may not be the team is worse - I know this was a cup game however and we looked poor in this too

What can I say, as much as the Keeper made some good saves, and it was a clear handball, we looked shockingly bad. Greg was looking extremelly lazy, which is unlike him, and realistically they looked miles better than us (they came with a solid plan). Still, need to focus on the league now, we are the only ones that can help ourselves, gotta give that 110% effort that I know we are capable of! Up the Tags! #💛💙

I was at that game! Disappointing result but we did play well. We definitely had more opportunities, but we just could find an opening and we put the ball far too close to the keeper far too often. South Park were just more clinical than we were, unfortunately. Good luck to them for the next round and the rest of the season. Special mention for their keeper Danny Bracken too. Not only did he have a solid game and made some good saves, he was also a top bloke too! Us Hashtag fans were trying to wind him up a bit all game but he was a proper good sport and was chatting and bantering with us throughout the whole match. We actually had a right laugh with him! We all ended up liking him by the end of the match and we all shook his hand after the final whistle, which doesn't often happen with opposition goalies lol. We should try and sign him up if the opportunity ever presents itself! He'd fit right in! Anyway, on to Whitehawk. That's basically a local game for me so I'll see you there again! Up the Tags!

Even when losing is not my favorite cup of tea, I don't mind the tags going out of the Cups. The focus this year should be to get a solid foothold on the league table, and maybe make a late push for playoff spots. Tags need to keep growing organically, get new signings, and get more and more competitive, as they reach the true competitive (pro) zone of the football pyramid

Not really getting all this ‘Always against great keepers’ and then getting the man of the match. He made two good saves and the rest were straight at him. Need to stop thinking the world is against us and people try harder coz it’s against Hashtag. Who cares? Play our game, put some rockets up arses. Be clinical! We have been used to being the better team in the leagues. This is season will be the hardest for us. Can’t have heads dropping. Gotta keep the chin up and be positive. UTT!!

Yeah this keeper victim mentality is getting out of hand, week after week it's just 'omg their keeper was incredible, saved everything, nothing we could do'. When the reality is that 95% of the balls are straight at them, and the ones that aren't are just to the side of them instead to where they can still easily get to it. Even the shots that got belted over the bar here were still directly in line with their keeper.

Boys really didn't look motivated today, shocking performance really. looked ok goig forward but lacked any real drive and focus without the ball. Anyone else expect a big and loud Devs half time talk or just me? thhought it could've motivated the lads. idk maybe it's just this tournament that's cursed but still very disappointing today. You boys are talking about their keeper like he did something incredible when in reality basically all of them were super routine saves that you'd absolutely expect him to make. Boys were just putting absolutely everything directly at the keeper today and making him look good when the reality is the shots were just incredibly poor. Cant be having as many shots as we did from the positions we did and then losing 2-0 to their 2 shots that were just placed properly.

I watch you every week in the Netherlands and I wonder. Do you play every game on artificial grass? That goes for the women’s team also. Are there no real grass fields anymore?

There are still some grass pitches at lower levels, but a lot of teams these days do tend to opt for artificial pitches as they don't get torn up like a real grass pitch does, and they don't have to spend a fortune maintaining it either. A lot of these lower league grounds are also often 'community' pitches, or are shared by a couple of teams (like Hashtag sharing a ground with Bowers and Pitsea), so it's not just the one team who'll play there once a week, it might be used multiple times a week by various teams/activities. A lot of the time it just makes sense to have an artificial pitch. We don't have great weather over here, (especially in winter lol), so by December the pitch would resemble a quagmire and would essentially just be nothing but dirt and mud lol
