Personally, I would start with removing the known bad component first, the USB Port. If you have shorting pins there, you will read shorts elsewhere on the board until that is swapped or removed.

Couple of ideas - whatever IC on the daughter board marries it to the main board, swap that IC to a new daughter board. OR if you think the connector is the issue, replace the connector

Yeah, I would do the same! Nothing really to loose, you can swap the chip back if it comes to that.

I would also go and take components of the daughterboard just to see if corrosion made it's way under the components. All together very nice video again Joey love your content and always looking forward to the next video.

The rectangle motor controller believe that creates and controls all voltages for the disc drive, any short would have blown it. Suppose you could put the daughter board/ disc drive in another ps5 and just see if it takes the disc in and spins? I'm sure that daughter board has a few tiny fuses dotted about, check those.

swap the renesas chip on another board if you have it. if the console went trough updates and restoring process the chip is still good and you can use it to remarry a new board. or if you want you can try change the laser driver chip on the same side of the board. this might resolve the issue on the ps5 disk.

I'd go with the rectangle chip as well easier to change. I tried to change the Renaissance chip and I killed mine... Few videos on KZbin now with unrecognisable disc and it's the motor control chip on the daughter board. Shame Sony made the disc drive so secure and had a soldered ssd totally kills the life span of these consoles.

I would suspect the damage to the drive itself caused an issue with the daughter board, id suggest swapping the IC that contains the ID data of the daughter board with another drives daughter board.

You can solder the R Button to two copper pads on the board, no need for scrapping the pcb. There are images online for the Pad locations

I have started using magnetic USB cables, despite the fact they are not standard/certified by the USB forum. Finding one that works as advertised can be challenging, but it's worth the time. When it comes to the switch of course you'd sacrifice the ability to dock it, but these cables eliminate the wear on the connectors on devices and the build up of lint (thinking about smartphones). A friend of mine adopted the same solution after his daughter destroyed the port on 3 different ipads. 😂

I have learned from watching a mini of videos fixing Nintendo switches. That if you have a bad port. You replace that port before you do any other troubleshooting. I have watched several KZbinrs go down a spiraling rabbit hole of trying to find out what's wrong with it before they replace the port. One KZbinr that I sadly don't watch anymore makes it a priority to swap the ports on any switch that has no power.

I've had a very similar issue before with a water damaged daughter board, and oddly enough it ended up being a power issue, it seemed when the disc drive needs "extra" power it couldnt draw what it needed.

Could you not try swapping over the ICs from the damaged board to a good board as the SN will be in one of the chips not sure what one it would be though but others probably would know

Also that button ripping off must be fairly common as baught 2 damaged joycons for the switch I got from you and both was fine apart from both had that fault both was an easy fix £1.89 for 2 from ebay

This indicates that either the pins on the one side of the port are loose or broken or just that the cable is damaged on one side. Try changing a charging cable if it still goes on just swap out the port with a new one and you should be good.

Also if you don’t want to change the port you could try reflowing the pins (if they are loose) if they are broken you will have to change the port unfortunately. Cheers

That drive can be repaired, it won't be easy, and it will be a few hours, unfortunately Sony seems to love making things difficult. But the next question is: Is this financial feasible?

Is it possible that a chip on the MOTHERBOARD that communicates with the daughter board has been taken out by shorts from the disk drive water damage. I know nothing at all about the PS5 (other than it took me forever to get one for my son a few Christmases ago), so this not be possible at all.

Love your videos but I think you should include postage costs and maybe even lets say atleast £20 an hour wage 😂. You could maybe at the end do a grand total video.. time spent fixing, time spent searching for items, time spent packaging and posting with a total wage plus eBay fees plus postage after item sold. Could even include all the scammers that tried to return empty boxes etc. Very hard to make a living fixing stuff you find on eBay I'd say impossible for main tech items as you're up against so many buyers. The main problem is people pay over the odds destroy any chance of being able to fix them then instead of going oh well I'll keep that for parts on the next one they sell them as "i don't know what's wrong wasn't me no refunds".
