For those confused (as I was at first), the title is a bit misleading. It's not just naming 3 cities over 10k in a square, it's naming the 3 biggest cities in each square. That's why some larger cities like Buffalo weren't accepted. Also, I'm a bit disappointed that Jake kept misspelling Tucson, but then again it's a bit of a weird one.

I've said this for a previous video... given the nature of Jomboy Media, I'm surprised they don't immediately name all of the MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL cities, then start working through Triple-A and Double-A baseball and/or the G League. They would knock out 90 percent of these maps just from those cities alone.
@deepowls9 ай бұрын
That wouldn't have helped that much with this quiz, since they needed to list the top three in each square. Some squares had multiple major league cities. Others required to go fairly obscure, name suburbs, or list the Canadian or Mexican cities in the square like they did with Tijuana. For example, in the square with New York and most of Pennsylvania, they needed to answer Toronto, Mississauga, and Brampton. The Salt Lake City square is SLC, West Valley City, and West Jordan. There's no reason for people to know those SLC suburbs unless they previously looked them up after a different HugeQuiz. Your strategy would be useful in other coverage quizzes where they could name any city. Same with college towns, which they started doing. But, yes, they would have finished a square with Milwaukee and a few others they missed. It is a better strategy than repeating Gary (69k and 8th in Indiana) over and over.

That timed quiz is very difficult. I got 45/102 squares (and 145 cities) on the same "easy" level. I'm very good, but not amazing at geography. I did get some of the very easy squares that they ignored like Alaska (2 squares) plus Yukon & Northwest Territories. For the New York state/Pennsylvania square, it was Toronto and two of its suburbs, so I wouldn't expect them to get it. The other two for Detroit's square were also Canadian. I did get all those, but much of the rest of Canada was a mess with me getting 1 or 2 cities. It's annoying to pull Marquette, MI and Thunder Bay, Ontario, but not get credit for it. South of the US border was quite poor as I only got 9 of those, but quite a few with 1 or 2 cities. Sorry, I did not know La Romana, Dom Rep, nor what the 3rd and 4th most populous cities in Cuba. The only ones I can see, feel I should have gotten, and would have earned me a square were Los Mochis and Campeche in Mexico. That's getting obscure, though Campeche is also the name of the state. I think I was so happy to spell Tuxtla Guitierrez correctly that I moved on. Playa del Carmen would be less obscure for others, but I wasn't likely to pull that name without a lot of time. As frustrating as it might have been for them, I enjoy these videos.

10k population is an insanely low threshold, too hard. Just to give you an idea: the 100th most populous city in California is Whittier with 82k; # 300 in Cali has 24k people
@deepowls9 ай бұрын
Despite the video title, they only need to name the 3 most populous cities in each square. The 10+k only comes to play in the sparsely populated squares where, for example, Juneau, Whitehorse, and Yellowknife were the only cities in their squares. Even though those are small, I found those squares to be easier, since those show up on maps often and are well-known. Meanwhile, the squares for Salt Lake City and Albuquerque required you to put SLC suburbs and western Denver suburbs.

On quizzes like this, it'd be good if the stats also gave the number of correct cities, overall. Putting a line under Population Range that had Overall xxx/365 would be nice. It'd be okay if it only gave that total at the end of the quiz, but that's less good.
@dfp_019 ай бұрын
This quiz should definitely be "name 3/5/10 cities over 10k in each square" and not "name the top 3/5/10 cities in each square" because you have to know largest suburbs, in order, for a lot of the cities. Not impossible but very difficult even on the "easy" mode
@deepowls9 ай бұрын
@@dfp_01, HugeQuiz works that way on some of their other games. Among their grid games, they do have a few versions where you just need to name any single city above a specific threshold per square. However, I don't think they have a grid game where you could name any 3/5/10 cities per square, like you're suggesting. Among their blackout games, they have some that work both the way you'd want (i.e., name any three that qualify in the Triple Blackout games) as well as name only the three most populated (i.e., Top 3 Blackout). I prefer the Triple Blackout version where you can name any three of the category...especially since that's less sensitive to what year's census/estimates game is using.
