Dracula is actually a title, not so much a proper name. His father held the title “Dracul” or “the Dragon”, giving Vlad the title “Son of the Dragon” or “Dracula”. He would later add Tepes to his name, meaning impaler, for obvious reasons. It actually is quite a colorful name

Animals make fun noises all the time! People regularly mistake baby rabbits for crying babies outside because they make similar sounds. Mountain lions will make sounds similar to human whistling. Coyotes, when in danger or injured, will let out a scream that sounds like a screaming woman. Sounds should never be used as the single point of reference to identify scary things.

Owls are my lifelong favourite animal and I was beyond psyched they spotted one! That’s an adult tawny owl. It’s on the ground because it just failed a hunt attempt, otherwise its claws would most likely hold a bank vole. They pretty much only day hunt if they have chicks so that’s probably a parent! It didn’t seem lethargic or confused which could point to avian malaria (a big issue for tawny owls). It made this video like 400% better :)

as a romanian their video was a strange combination of a comedy and a documentary on how bizarre foreginers are when it comes to dracula. i was sitting here, vibrating with the need to eat cement because. why. if they took like 10 seconds to hop on google, they would learn that that's literally just a castle where vlad țepeș spent like two or three days. we don't actually even know where he is buried for sure, although consensus is generally, at snagov monastery (ALTHOUGH in the grave at snagov, they only found some neolithic horse bones and a new hypothesis places his resting place at comana monastery, a monastery vlad had built), nor do we know for sure who killed him and where. vlad (the III) the impaler's father, conveniently also named vlad (II), was commonly called "vlad dracul" (tr. vlad the devil) and he was a part of the order of the dragon, a military and religious society that could be compared with the teuton knights. this alliegence is how vlad (the father) got his nickname. their family name was draculea or drăculea and the nickname țepeș (the impaler; in romanian țeapă, from where the word țepeș is derived literally means stake) was first mentioned in a wallachian chronic as impaling people was indeed his go to execution method. i've never heard of the "he killed 80.000 people1!!!!1!" so i am curious as to where they got that number. stories blow his ”bloodthirstiness” and violence (it was... the middle ages...) way out of proportion. a far cooler account i believe they should talk about is the night attack at târgoviște, where romanian solders, led by vlad III the impaler, dressed up as ottomans, raided the camp at night and the confused turks started killing left and right, fighting each other long even after the romanians retreated. if i am not mistaken, vlad the impaler's real residence was actually poenari citadel, a far less well kept castle on top of a mountain, more of a ruin unfortunately, but far more impressive back in the day, i would assume, by its sheer concept alone. (citadel famous for the fact that you have to climb 1480 steps to visit it - I do think it is 100% worth it but my dad tends to disagree) bram stoker s story also takes place in transylvania, a place most commonly associated with vampires but a thing that has always been funny to me is that vlad tepes reigned in wallachia (thrice, actually!), a region to the south of the carpathians and of transylvania. neverhtelss: vampires are sexy and one should bite me fr and americans very weird about eastern europe. sorry for the rant!

@@rye3918 yeah I think the reason I keep watching their videos is because the nostalgia, but also watching their videos got me through a really rough time back in 2016 because my dad had left me and then a couple months later he passed. so watching their videos back then really comforted me

@@Z0MBIEV4LKYRIE their videos got me through a rough time too, I completely understand what you mean. I still like S&C as people but as KZbin creators... they're just not genuine anymore. I think success made them stop being themselves and start going for over dramatic bs that they could sensationalize. I like to check in on them and see how're they're doing every so often because they still have a place in my heart but I'm just not all that into it anymore. I haven't watched more than 10 minutes of one of their videos in a couple years. They deserve the success they're having but it kinda ruined their content for me.

As a Romanian I find it very annoying but amusing that people outside the country, usually Americans, think of vampires and Vlad The Impaler when they hear about Romania I've had someone that didn't even know Romania was a real place. They thought it was a book.
@CallMeSkinny2 жыл бұрын
All I think of now is Andrew Tate saying he lives there cause he can get away with rap3 and sex trafficking there lol it’s insane and honestly not a good look to put on Romania either. I’d rather have the Dracula tourism than toxic people going there thinking they can get away with crimes.

Honestly in the future, will political leaders also be seen as like, horror icons? When technology advances further, will older technology from like ww2 or the cold war be seen as even more horrific? Like napalm is pretty horrific in concept and execution...
@sillycatsayshi2 жыл бұрын
i think yes, not only because those murders are already terrifying but also because they'll only hear about them and never get to live in the same era with them which makes it more dramatic lol

They call it a “documentary” but they can’t even get all their facts straight. “Dracula” is a book by Bram Stoker published in 1897. Count Dracula is a fictional character- he always has been. Sure, Stoker took inspiration from Vlad the Impaler, but that doesn’t make Vlad “the real Dracula.” They’re just touring Vlad’s house, this has nothing to do with Dracula at all.
