This sort of analysis, while pertinent, often contributes to the placement of Baudrillard into a thinker of the media. Baudrillard's ideas of simulation extend much further, questioning the relationship we have with biology, nature and history to just name a few. By avoiding these domains of Baudrillard's thought, I fear that we construct an image of Baudrillard that is wholly not his own but is the one we bestow upon him for the convenience of being able to talk about what we find important (i.e. the media). Still good stuff tho!

This is predominantly why democracy is pretty much nearly impossible in a Capitalist society. If the media has to make money using advertising, please corporate sponsors and compete with other media outlets, then it creates an incentive to tell you things which are not true or embellish non-events to attract more viewers. The corollary is viewers will be naturally drawn to the channel which entertains them the most. The so-called free-market is designed specifically to give us what we want right now, without acting ethically on what we need, which in this case is unbiased, pertinent information on the world. We are, after all, trained to be entertained by advertising and frivolities.

It's a paradox: That we require advertising revenue to support an honest interpretation of a 20th century philosopher's critique of advertising in a consumerist society. Here, we are consuming critical thought. If relevant and truthful, not difficult to ingest, even if itself fed by advertising of some sort.

To all of those who question the trustworthyness of the media, you must also ask the question: "Can I allow myself to trust, and if so, to whom?" Of couse what is so amazing about philosophy, is that it creates more questions than answers, and they can only be answered by those who are questioned. There is no definitive answer for sure.

I wish I could've seen this prior to my readings of Baudrillard - an actual reading of Simulacra and Simulation, Symbolic Exchange and Death, Forget Foucault, Seduction, Fatal Strategies, etc., was ridiculously hard for me, given that I was reading them by and for myself (not as a requirement for a Philosophy class, as I'm still in High School). I think that another one of these centered on Symbolic Exchange and Death would be great, or better yet, one exploring the concept of reversibility in relation to Symbolic Exchange would be great. I'm not saying I don't understand the concepts, albeit trivial, rather it's that a lot of people usually have trouble grasping the concepts of Symbolic Exchange and Reversibility, if not for the more notorious concept of seduction (i.e. "The subject desires, the object seduces."). Thanks again, I'll definitely direct people that are interested in a Intro to Baudrillard to this channel/video. I think y'all should do one on Deleuze next; Baudrillard does read like a Dark Deleuze, in a sense.

This brings the question, "Can we trust 8-Bit?" and furthermore, "Can we even trust ourselves if we're feeding ourselves possible false information, and believing that information wholeheartedly?" If we begin to believe lies, how will we know the truth? In fact, how do we know that this isn't even the "real world"? What if this is all a figment of imagination, or some masquerade for a select few to hide them from the real life? I'm bantering again... aren't I?
@neonpop806 жыл бұрын
+hot4crocs It isnt real at all. Its an illusory projection from a system that acts like a mirror creating the illusion of an 'I' from which a point of view is experienced. The creator of this projection is consciousness and the self is lost in its perception and beliefs to forget how to self reflect and turn the mirror so as to see the truth of things, that when looked so deeply into oneself one can find emptiness. You come up empty. And that is where the treasure we actually seek but deny out of fear and avoidance of self dissolution lay. We suffer from a dissociative disorder obsessed with looking outside of ourselves and grasping on to false imagery to comfort the lie and a-void the abyss that is the pool of void from which we peek.
