The title of a video is 'Can you beat Crash Bandicoot 2 without breaking any boxes' and technically, you don't break the TNT boxes.... They explode on their own. So your run can be debatable

Technically, you and your actions broke only 4+12+4+1=21 boxes, the rest was destroyed by the environment or exploded themselves. Good run!

Yeah I'd hand it to him on that one. But I guess it gets ambiguous if you destroy a box that activates a TNT that happens to destroy other boxes, but it looks like you counted that 12. (vs the TNT that activates via the icicle dropping on it which isn't Crash's fault). Also Hard to say if the Polar destroying the 4 boxes counts since you can't possibly steer crash away from them. I remember in the "All boxes are nitros" that ONE part was impossible to get through because your masks don't protect you when on Polar (IIRC) and they found SOME crazy glitch where after letting the game run on auto pilot for literally weeks straight, they finally had a case where the nitros bounced at JUST the right time to let him through. Alas.... that'd be useless in this video, but it was still quite memorable.

@@MarioMastar He could've skipped blowing up the TNT all together though. Break the box above the TNT on the right then break the two boxes below it. Gives plenty of room that way to get by having only broken 3 of the 12.

13:02 - It's possible to proceed without hitting the exclamation box, if you have an Aku Aku. The gap can be jumped over if you touch the enemy on the edge of the opposite side, because it damage-boosts you up for just as much as you need. Also, in the same level, maybe the death route is beatable without breaking any boxes, so it may be possible to avoid those few boxes on the main route? 16:15 - Something that many players don't know: You can spin those logs away. And even the laser shots in the futuristic levels in the last warp room.

Pretty sure you don't even need a mask to make that jump, but you are correct. Can confirm the death route would be better, you can actually do it without breaking any boxes

@@RJA Yeah I was thinking the same thing, since the death route doesn't have any boxes you can destroy, just a ton of nitros and one of the trolliest clear gems in the game because of that one ! box at the end that requires you to backtrack. Speaking of death routes I do like how he mentioned the trade off between getting the clear gems and how he'd have ended up destroying more boxes to get them all.

Another very enjoyable video! I loved the original crash game growing up, but my little brother was always much better at it than I was so I mostly watched him play. We did have a PS1, but we always used to play crash on the PS2. I think that was why he couldn't save and had to write out all the codes in an A4 notebook. The cover was blue translucent plastic with small ridges diagonally across it. Funny what you remember really. Not all PS1 games were forward compatible, I think. I dont think Discworld II was, at any rate.

So based off the lack of information about it on the internet, I'm just now learning that TNT's needing weight to trigger them isn't general knowledge. With the stack of twelve, you can hit a box above one the TNT's and then break the boxes below it without triggering the TNT at all. That saves 9 boxes there.

I guess they are technically only skipped in the ARD run by virtue of the change to everything being a nitro causing them to either bounce high enough to let you go under them when the initial polar roll happens or the nitros just exploding on their own but that also means for what it's worth, on OG software and hardware you can skip the four boxes at the start of the polar level

If you played the original crash 2 you use the red gem glitch in snow go so you don't have to break boxes it is possible to get all coloured gems without breaking a box

Another channel did a similar challenge (ARD?) to this but turned all rhe boxes into nitro. They found that in bear down/bear it those four boxes are impossible to skip regardless of what you do

some boxes in some levels actually could be avoidable if you do the glitched slide jump trick (Slide then press simultaneusly Jump+Spin, Crash will do a super jump that can pass some piles of crates with easy if did well) like in cold hard crash instead of 6 boxes you could do the level with just 4 (or even less, but anyways thtas a great video m8 cheers from brasil)

Quick point Pretty certain When you go for the coloured gems Die when you grab it, it ends up in your inventory, it takes you back to your entry point and you can continue the level

If you play the PS1 version, there's a trick to get all crystals on level 2, that way, you just need to play level 2 and the bosses, and no boxes need to be broken.

12:54 Actually you don't need to go the down path at all. Just slide jump spin to build momentum and go over the gap without hitting the switch crate.

I dont know about the nsane trilogy version, but in og crash 2 you could outrun the boulder and the boxes wouldn’t be counted. Maybe we can lower the crates if it also works in this version.

In the level of the Polar Bear level .. you can go so fast and intentionally take a check point before the TNT explode .. then take an intentional death .. you take 1 box but save 3 .. saving 2 boxes .. i know that because that happened to me while i'm collecting the gym

same thing for the bolder escape level .. you can take the check point before the bolder crushes some boxes then you take intentional death saving those boxes .. but for this you will need to go extremely fast like as a wr speedrun pace

Huh, in original only huge bear breaks crates, boulders never do, unless those are nitros. I guess it was changed for N.Sane Trilogy to make levels a bit easier

Yeah, it was a huge pain in those levels cause the boulder did break the crates but it didn't count towards your total, frustrating many players. so likely they changed that for that reason.

That is a good idea! I am not sure if that glitch is still possible in the remake though. And even if it was, my preference is to play through the main levels as if it was a regular playthrough.

I actually tried this myself for the original a few years back just out of curiosity, with save states cause it's a bit scuffed ngl First issue is the two boxes in Snow Go, couldn't work out a way to get past without needing to break both. Then in Crash Dash, using speedrun tech you can outrun the boulder since the boxes don't break off-screen. I managed to get the count down to 2 for that level but it may be possible to get 1 or 0 with the boulder randomly hopping over a box or two at the start of the last section. Same deal with Crash Crush and Un-Bearable. Bear It and Bear Down have the TNTs that blow up by themselves, and Hangin' Out has the giant wall of boxes that *sometimes* leaves one behind after it explodes but idk how to manipulate that properly so it might be possible to save more There's some creative ways to get past the rest of the game, like in Cold Hard Crash how you have to walk towards the screen as much as possible without falling off to go *around* the boxes in the death route. And how in Hangin' Out you can do some mask abuse to skip all the boxes on the grates. Overall probably worth making a vid on but the speedrunning needed to do the boulder levels is rather intense (This is for a regular Any% No GO playthrough btw, Any% is possible box-less thanks to doing the item glitch in Turtle Woods, and you can probably save a few boxes in the boulder levels using the Game Over abuse if you wanted to count Any% GO instead)

You can avoid some boxes in the reverse levels (boulder or polar bear chase) if you are fast enough to outrun whatever is chasing you. I have experienced that way too many times in 100% runs of the game. Cold Hard Crash is a real gauntlet of a level, especially in a 100% run. Though I am pretty sure you could avoid more boxes in the original version of the game, since most of the 2D parts of the levels does not have invisible walls.
