Can You Beat Fallout: New California Without Taking Any Damage? (in text form)
Unlike a DLC, you don’t have to start a new character in New Vegas just to get to New California. Start a new game, choose New California, and your journey begins with a surprisingly well put-together cutscene showing the Great War, the basics of what a vault is, and a bunch of people piled up a few leg hands from the sand. Getting sand out of a backpack is difficult getting sand out from the corner of someone’s eye to prepare them for their journey is impossible. More war stuff happened, we’re shown glimpses of the game world just as you would be in Fallout New Vegas, and gameplay begins with a football game. I chose the path of the Warrior because I ain’t no fuckin’ nerd, I made the noise-in game of breaking something but I blacked out before I felt anything break, a character was made to fit the image of someone who isn’t me and dialog begins with a conversation between myself and Coach John Bragg. Bragg yapped on and on about my future, my past, the Vault, and he cleverly surmised that I have a high endurance. He’s almost right. I’ve always prided myself on my ability to take half a punch without bursting into tears. The vigor tester looked cool, lots of blues and yellows. I knew next to nothing about this mod so I wasn’t sure what my SPECIAL stats should look like. I obviously drained Endurance and put points into Charisma and Intelligence to help with leveling up and hopefully avoiding conflict, Luck to boost all skill and critical hits, and Agility to give a small boost to my ability to handle firearms. I also chose Skilled and Trigger Discipline as my Traits, they’re always what I fall back on. I named myself Noodle God as in, like, a limp noodle that’s a war machine.
This is the 2nd time I’ve disappointed a coach. The first was in high school when I was so bad at bowling that I wasn’t even kicked off the team, the coach just told me that I’d never be put in a match so there wasn’t any point to me showing up. He was mad. He kicked me out of his office, Bragg, not the bowling coach. He’s unconscious now and I feel nothing. I took a look through my Pip-Boy to see what I had: a nerf football and a special helmet. I insinuated that Jen is an idiot, looked at all the trophies that I’ll ever have, spoke to mister mop, and wandered around Vault 18. This really looks a lot more like a Vault than any of the vaults in New Vegas did. My task was to report to Lieutenant Chevy regarding a security job. Cliche’s and whatnot, turns out she’s not only Bragg’s sister, she’s also got an eyepatch.
This mod surprised me. Normally when you see a skill check, it’s like a siren calling out to you to click on it because it’s the right choice or will skip something and save time. Not here. That charisma check is missing a period by the way. Choose it like I did, throw in a word that I’d never say because I’m a good Christian boy, and that was it, I was on mop duty for life. To make her pay for her misdeads, I threw not one, but two nerf footballs at her head. They didn’t bother her. I think my fist tickled her, not in the fun way.

Yea you have to complete the computer fixing mission first then you’re allowed to head to the robotics lab where you get two robot companions B-6-R-K and ALPHA. Alpha is harder since I believe you need to get to 90 science and before that complete a mini game on a computer

@@keithkania3810 i think it was 75 science for hard comp. you can get tat pretty easy on science path as you reset maria computer you get like +10 to science and repair and have a couple of science books that you can find (and with comprehension you get like 5 skill points per book and +20 temp skill for magazine skillbook.). I have 6 companions on science path and even though i have 1 char they still demolish everything in sight. Still path of the warrior seems overall better for the +10% dmg with all weapons you get, donno if those perks return to vegas with you but +10% dmg is always solid.

A no powers run would more challenging. It’s easy to go through the game without killing anyone. The game gives you multiple pathways to where you need to go so you don’t have to alert anyone that you’re there.

FNC is one of those things where it's really, really impressive but not really very good. It's super glitchy, which is probably more of an engine issue but it makes the mod near unplayable sometimes, the story is pretty damn awful and nonsensical at times, the characters aren't as good as they should be and the amount of combat is stupid for a game in this engine where combat quicjly becomes more of a chore. I hope they keep making mods because, like I said before, it's really impressive and can be fun but there are issues they need to fix for their next piece of work.

Well you see I played through FNC and didn't even do half the fighting shown here. The mod can be played more peacefully. Also when it comes to characters I really didn't find a single one to be inconsistent. Annai Oran, Chevy, Jhon Bragg, Silverman, Ben Kurtz, and every other one I've met were both interesting and consistent when it came to their motivations, hell I even got emotional during my last talk with Annai. When it comes to bugs it is a bit glitchy but I haven't gotten anything worse than a few crashes tbh so the argument of it being almost unplayable is kinda lost for me personally.

I actually like some ideas this mod introduced. For example in pretty much all Fallout games using speech or charisma is usually a preferred way out of a complicated situation but in this one, like for example in this situation right here 9:16 using charisma will get you nowhere as these men have been tasked to capture you no matter what so moment you choose diplomacy here you're screwed but if you attack them you can avoid being captured by raiders. This means that unlike official games you won't just be able to get away from difficult situations by abusing your speech or charisma which is actually very good as it makes you consider that maybe negotiating with a blood thirsty raider isn't a good idea regardless oh how high your speech stat is.

Actually, I think you can avoid taking damage from when the vault explodes. Normally, when you have more companions following you out of the vault, you’re supposed to take them into a shop that’s a little past the tunnel. I don’t remember taking any damage when in there.

Yeah but for that you probably have to get Alpha and B-6-RK and he (from my impression) was playing the mod for the first time so he didn't know about the additional possibilities given by the path of the scientist.

@@tkc5980 Alpha and B-6-RK are only available for the Scientist playthrough, on the Warrior playthrough you get a couple of incestuous siblings instead. Kira and Ben are the 2 mandatory ones and then there's a few optional ones available to both. On one playthrough where i used some console commands to allow myself to pass all the special checks and a walkthrough and a mod for unlimited companions i left the Vault with a group of like 8 companions.

There's a pulse gun in this game you get from killing the nerdy dude who's the first to talk to you when you wake from the explosion and leave your room. It's totally based on the Pulse Pistol from Farscape, from design to color to how it fires and the sound match perfectly! These creators did such a cool job on the whole thing!

But because I love New Vegas and New Cali I pressed on and was very happy with the outcome!
