That comment about GBA growths isn't entirely accurate, but it is correct about capping stats being slightly beneficial for your other growths. It doesn't choose how many stats you'll get and then allocate them - it simply rolls a number 1-100 for each stat and checks if that number is less than or equal to the growth rate to see if it will increase. The reason capping stats is technically slightly beneficial for your other stats is that the game will reroll your level up if you get an empty one, and then again if you get another empty level up. This means if you cap your HP, you've eliminated the possibility of any future levels being just HP+1 (because that would be an empty level, you'll reroll your entire level up in that case and get another opportunity to increase the stats that didn't get rolled last time). So the effect is pretty negligible seeing as how unlikely empty levels are until you have multiple capped stats, but it is there. This is why you almost NEVER see empty level ups in GBA fire emblem: you'd need to be unlucky enough to get a zero stat level up 3 times in a row before it actually uses that result. EDIT: I guess I'm wrong. According to this post on Serenes Forest: forums.serenesforest.net/index.php?/topic/91108-a-deep-dive-into-level-up-mechanics/ The game rolls capped stats anyways and it doesn't care whether or not the stat is capped to decide whether the level is empty. So capped stats have no effect on growth probability for your other stats.

Yeah I don't know what did that comment tried to cook but if you ever played with the LUA script you just see that leveling up uses the RNG list used for everything in this game, so other than moving the list by 1 you have no benefit unless you're looking at said script to manipulate the level ups, and if you're doing that already you don't really get anything out of a capped stat

That's not GBA FE, that's Radiant Dawn iirc. Bonus EXP-levels are set to always give 3 statups if possible, which means that a character's bad stats are getting forced to go up if other ones are already capped. So growths only play half the role they do in other games.

Ah. The Steady Axe. When I first played Sacred Stones - Dozla was my go to to hold chokepoints, especially during the Rausten Siege or making the run thru Darkling Woods. And I stress again - the beauty of drawn animation where he does a crit by nonchalantly tossing his axe in the air, then catching it with ONE HAND, and then crashing it down an enemy's head with such decimation so satisfying to see. But yeah, as an adult now and seeing how he performs shows how pre-promoted units are not really a player's new top-tier unit in the party, rather another soldier to consider putting in the frontlines if needed. Looking forward to the next run! Hopefully with the illustrious swordwaifu Marisa or Death-Is-Always-Around Knoll or even the Unlockable characters going thru Valni or Lagdou. Cheers!

From what I see even though capping hp doesn't effect growths but maxing hp early is still good for one character runs as that means they have more bulk earlier and their is zero diminishing returns later on other than potential money.

It's been awhile since I played a full GBA Fire Emblem game but I remember specifically making sure to promote my units once they cap a stat, as I believed that once they capped a stat they stopped rerolling blank level ups. I'm learning from the comments that it apparently doesn't exactly work that way, it's just that leveling up a capped stat doesn't count as a blank level up and that's why it doesn't reroll. Regardless, I remember units only getting blank level ups when they have a capped stat, especially units like Rutger who can cap his speed and skill in like 2 levels lol. Like even in a solo run there's no way I'd leave that guy stuck at 20 speed for 10 levels and just have most of them be blank. I don't know if any of the Sacred Stones characters are as extreme a case as this but you could keep it in mind if an there ever is an unpromoted unit who happens to cap a dominant stat or two several levels early. Anyway I been enjoying binging these runs, I think I'm getting into FE again. :)

So for a solo run, you"d still rather keep going for the 20/20 and that is because you'd rather get as much as possible from the unit so even if you get a few blank levels you"d rather have those and maybe get a few points in other stats here and there. Dozla! One of those characters cursed to be probably unused unless someone either follows the intended rules and runs out of previous axe fighters or happens to be a big fan of him, and one of those characters that prove anyone can thrive in these games if blessed by RNG. It's been a while since you had to do a full reset to course correct said RNG, but that final triumph was so worth it. Revisiting Ross or some other initial character may be fun for like, a subscriber milestone special or some occasion like that, but until then I'm excited to see who'll be next.

I did enjoy Dozla my first time playing, but he died by the end of chapter 15. I was stuck on that level for quite some time and I didn't want to restart when I saw the win. I had Ross as a backup "Big axe man", who was my favourite character at the time. Summoner Ewan was also up there for me.

Capping out your HP does not actually affect the other growths in sacred stones, this is purely a mechanic from Radiant Dawn Bonus Experience. Technically, the game rerolls blank levels 1 time, but given the way in which GBA rolls stats using its fixed RNG strings, this doesn't actually get affected by capping HP (since HP is the first stat rolled)

Nerd Dozla, suffers from a 1 point below average speed growth, crunches the numbers to make his way through, can't even double the Demon King with +5 SPD, has to drink an Elixir after fighting a dragon. Chad Dozla: Breezes through battles, blessed with SPD, dodges Stones, casually 1-taps a dragon, has no issues fighting the Demon King, and makes it look like a Sunday Stroll. (Even without the crit, the double strikes means he'd 2-round the Demon King given hit rate luck. Entirely dependent on doubling to make use of his high STR, at which point gg.)

6:36 That's actually a misconception. The game rolls for all stats on every level up, and doesn't take caps into consideration when judging whether it was blank or not. Getting the Angelic Robe as well as other star boosters will not help your growth (it might even make it look worse, since capped stats won't tell you they could've got a point), but I'd rather max stuff out sooner than later. In the end, it comes down to whether getting the item is worth the effort it takes, Note: This explanation applies to the GBA games only. FE10 has guaranteed level ups (something will increase if none of your uncapped stats are rolled favorably, bypassing growth rates), for example.

Dozla was also one of my favorite characters as a kid, him and Joshua always found spots in my party. I think the two metrics missing from your stats are 1) total completion time (as in, playtime it took to get the credits to roll, which in this case would count the entire first run and the many deaths and retries) and 2) total deaths. The key factor in Dozla's low placement was that frustrating first run, but in the stats it's just represented as a single reset.

Those two are a little harder to calculate as total time would require me to keep a clock and sometimes I have to pause in between moments in the run for whatever I need to do and total deaths are sometimes an indicator and sometimes are just a result of me doing something dumb or trying something or simply being inattentive while doing the run cause I'm watching something at the same time and in certain sections I'm a little bit on autopilot. So it wouldn't be impossible to track, but it would not be inaccurate information I think that wouldn't contribute to much more understanding of what happend.

What you are thinking of is radiant dawn bonus exp levels guaranteed 3 stats to go up, so it was best for most units to cap their good stats asap and then get their bad stats to go up with bonus exp. You can manipulate most units to cap all/most stats if you do it right and are willing to spend the bonus exp on them.

I might be wrong on this, but afaik stat level ups are independent from one another and having a maxed out hp shouldn't affect any other stat growth whatsoever. The game doesn't decide the number of stat boost and then where they go. Instead, for each stat it rolls a d100-1 and compares the result to the growth rate, increasing the stat only if the result on the dice is lower than the growth rate (with the exception of growth rates above 100, in which case it chooses between a +1 or a +2 by comparing to growth-100). The only thing that might be affected is that a maxed out stat is potentially skipped during the rng calls, meaning that a stat's rng value is used for the next one instead. But that changes nothing about the expected gains, it just enables some potentially stronger/easier rng manipulations. And even then I don't think this is the case: it's quite likely that the rng call is still made but no stat is increased regardless of the result.

7:10 Iirc, the reason to max out one early is due to the fact a good chunk of FE games reroll empty level ups(can't remember the exact amount) So if you use a Robe to clear 7 level ups where you might just get HP, all the other stats get another shot at being rerolled if everything else misses, resulting in better growths all around, especially for the lower chance stats, since they get more then one roll

It may seem like capping a Stat increases chances of other stats increase. From what I know (could be very wrong) each stat rolls individually when lvling up based on growths. If it rolls a 30/100 and has a 30% growth then it would go up.

I only started appreciating dozla when i did iron mans. Usually you will just always have units that are better than him to fill out the deployment slots. If those units die, you turn to replacement units, and dozla is such a beautiful replacement unit. He's just so...alright. He doesn't really double but doesn't usually get doubled either. He doesn't always hit, but does it often enough. He one rounds sometimes when he gets a crit, but not always. He has a big pool of hp but won't shrug off hits either. Awesomely designed filler unit.

the angelic robe does make it better cause each stat is rolled individually but if no stats get a growth it rerolles them ALL so it reduces the chance NOTHING else grows but its pretty minor but usefull nonethe less

So yeah thats not how growths work, when you level, each stat uses an rn if you're within your growth rate it goes up. The only case where maxing a stat increases your growths is technically when the game has a min +1 stat on level.

I thought you could surpass stat caps by delaying the use of Stat items until the unit organically hits the cap. Ex: waiting to use angelic robe until the hp is at 60 to bypass that limit and increase it to 67

Spoilers* My guess was that you would need to reset, I am impressed on the Finale luck. The growths comment I think is only true on Tellius series when using the Bonus Exp in RD; when you Level Up vía Bonus Exp you always have a fixed +3 stats gain so once you cap some stats it will always Increase those that arent capped. When you hit the first Lyon fight within 15 minutes but there's half an hour left... woof, you know something went bad. How does the Demon King's AI work? Could you have got him in a loop of summoning reinforcements on his turn rather than attacking?

Yep, it was kind of bare bones until the end there! The demon king AI depends on how many people are in his range, but his first move will always be a spawning of reinforcement and I've never seen him do it twice so I don't think you make him use that ability twice.

If you sit outside his range and just spam end turn, what does he do? Because if there is a consistent turn count pattern, you might be able to save yourself some trouble in the future.

@pieoverlord sorry, maybe I wasn't clear, haha. He will always summon on his first turn whether you sit in his range or not. He will then never summon again for the rest of the fight (as far as I've tested, I've never seen him summon a second time). If you sit outside his range, he simply will not move and only attack and move if you are in his range. If there are multiple units in his range he has an attack that can hit multiple target that he will sometimes use.

@@kratosmvn_ Excelblem encountered a scenario where the demon king summoned more rounds of monsters so its very much possible for him to do so, but he had his whole army sitting on him so its likely got something to do with unit count, it had also used nightmare up already so it might be based on wanting to use nightmare but not having it anymore instead defaults to summoning another batch of units.
