Can you beat Pokémon Fire Red with only Viridian Forest Pokémon?
The viridian forest is the first real challenge in Kanto. Not that bug trainers are tough, but still. To recognize those Pokémon, I decided to play through Fire Red using only them. Here's how it went!

Yeah I did have a ton of rare candies, but mostly I used them at the start to get my bugs to evolve. Training caterpie and weedle is not fun

I know right? There just aren’t many high level trainers after silphco. The open nature of kanto isn’t always the best

geodude only knows tackle and defense curl, so butterfree can setup harden on it fairly easy so it can sweep through onix

That could work, but it depends on how many tackles Geodude does. Even with +6 defense, onixs rock tomb can still do about 1/3 hp, so that’s not an insignificant amount

Cool video Kind if reminds me of Yellow manga arc with a child born with powers from Viridian Forest Also in Let's Go you can actually get a full team from Viridian Forest with Butterfree, Beedrill, Pidgeot, Victreebell/Vileplume, Raichu and Venasaur

I’m surprised you didn’t also kept unevolved pokemon in the party for extra strats. That said this was a good run, GG! ^-^ I love seeing the bugs getting some action. Butterfree was a main on my childhood team, kid me thought it was a super good pokemon with all those powder moves + it was cute

I'd like to suggest one I did and failed miserably at, I did it in Emerald. You can only use each ball once, you have to retrieve the ball and use it as soon as it's available. The Pokeball is automatically used for your starter sorry, but like you immediately have to buy a Premier Ball and use it to catch something

The Abra with the twisted spoon appeared because of of the outside of battle effect of Compound Eyes.

Abilities didn't have additional outside of battle effects until Emerald, so that was pure luck.

How do you mean? There was Pickup, Illuminate, and Stench, which explicitly have outside of battle effects, but other than those ones, abilities didn't have outside of battle effects until Emerald.

I said that they didn't have additional outside of battle effects. In all third generation games before Emerald, abilities only had their in-battle effects, other than the three I mentioned previously, which only had outside of battle effects.

Hot take here but in my opinion beedrill has never been better than in gen 1, twinneedle at lv20 super effective against all poison and psychic types, very helpful
