The sequel to the run no one asked for, yet almost A MILLION people saw.
Rules:
1) Only use the Pokemon in the Title
2) Other Pokemon are allowed (HMs), but should not be used in battle
3) No items in battle (held items allowed)
4) Set Mode

A funny anecdote on the “Gen 2 miss”: it actually *is* a thing, but it’s almost invisible. There’s still a 1/256 chance to miss every secondary status condition, including supposedly guaranteed ones like Zap Cannon. Since those kinds of moves tend to be awful, this glitch may as well not exist in practice, but it’s amusing nonetheless

​@@echogaia1708water and grass wouldn't of hit meganium for super effective damage so he might of had to rely on rollout strats. And while fire could hit for super effective damage against meganium and steelix it wouldn't be good against dragon so it could cause more problems. HP Ice with tha good of power was really the saving grace.

Pichu can get all the luck in the world (70% thunder hit, 30% paralyze), but with such bad stats, it can’t even hit hard enough to guarantee a win, and all it takes is a little bad luck (37.5% chance of paralyzed DynamicPunch) to lose it all.

I get so nostalgic for this generation. Pokemon Gold was my first ever video game. Not only was it my intro to the franchise, it defined what a video game could be for me. Everything about it just makes me feel so happy and carefree. Even with Whitney. Pure evil, that one.

omg same. My big brother got me Pokemon Silver the year it was released and it was basically the bane of my existence for a year or so. It taught e about persistence and about getting through stuff no matter how frustrating it gets i.e. whitney, bugsy, claire, and the little puzzles really messed with my head but made me a stronger person

HP Ice was probably THE best Hidden Power you could've asked for. electric is resisted by itself, Grass, Dragon and has no effect against Ground. But ice is super effective against Ground/Dragon/Grass and neutral against Electric. As such Electric+Ice is only resisted by Magnemite/Magneton in Gen2.

Whitney's AI will almost always go for Rollout if u have high enough HP. It only goes for Stomp if it thinks it'll kill you, or close to kill you.

What we've learned - any Pokemon can beat the game if they know Rollout.

To those who haven't done the math, a turn 5 Rollout is 480 base power. That's the same damage Gyarados takes when it's hit by Thunder, a 120 base power move it's 4x weak to.

for what its worth, in the jasmine fight: any of hidden power Fire, Water, Grass, and Ice were a boon against Steelix. So while its lucky you had a good hidden power, there were several that did it. even HP ground would have been okay-ish

The reason Hidden Power did so much damage to Steelix was because Ice is special, not physical. Steelix's defense stat is absolutely massive. So the hidden power strat should be similarly the best option so long as your hidden power type is a special type that isn't electric.

For your next solo run of Kanto, I have a question that I would like answered: Which Gen 1 Fire-type is worth using your Fire Stone on? Suffering against Red is what taught me to diversify my Pokemon. I always had a strong team with very few weaknesses that swept the game...until I hit Snorlax. Snorlax just has a way of eating damage like it's lunch and it sucks.

If you have access to VR equipment, I've got a recommendation for you: It's called EmuVR. You could set up a virtual game room and pre-emptively set up every Pokemon in every generation as a starter ahead of time using the Universal Pokemon Randomizer. Of course, that wouldn't replace your normal Retron, I don't think, since you seem to prefer real rather than virtual cartridges and it's easier to record, but maybe you should try it out.

Seeing this Pichu battling Red gave me an idea for a brutal(?) challenge run. You use Red's Pokemon team but they are all first stage pre-evolutions. Maybe trying it after gen 4? Because Munchlax only exists there.

Realistically, any optional Rival Battles would be the 'B'. Like you said, the real Rival 3 Battle is underground, yet the optional 3rd battle is in Burnt Tower. So in the Tower, it'd be 3b and underground would be 3a. In my opinion of course. Makes more sense to me that way.
