Nice work, both of you! Three comments in one: Considering how the run turned out, would "How many spares does it take to beat Undertale?" be a better title? Greater Dog's battle having that option is no gift, you demon. Although still shown as the same ending, whether you properly spared a monster is reflected in its credits description. That's a lot of whites...

No need for the technicality of "Asgore and Flowey use Mercy instead of Spare". You're allowed to kill them, and it doesn't stop your ability to get True Pacifist on the next run [which speedrunners including Shayy do]. They're both after Sans's judgement, which is really the final pacifist check, and Asgore is killed by Flowey anyway with Flowey himself only needing to be spared to have him tell you to date Undyne. Killing him sets the same flag to unlock the path for True Pacifist.

As someone else said, theres a video of using some kind of punch card glitch to die but skip any amalgamate. If you use this and its doable by a human, im unsure if it is because the video is a TAS, but if it is thats only 1 spare. If someone can find a way to break doggo you can get a perfect spareless run! Look up [TAS] true lab but everything is skipped.

I feel like muffet is the easiest punch card skip. It doesn’t take much time as you get multiple chances each time. I recommend that skip to start with if you want to learn to do punch card skips

So, is there extra dialogue from Sans involving this? It would be interesting if there were.

that's not possible. the screen transition checks if your fun value is 66, and if it is, it puts you in the fake hallway, but then it sets your fun value to 0 (and saves that to your save file, i think). so you can't get it again unless you true reset. (actually idk if a normal reset will set the fun value back to the initial random one...)

I recently did a pacifist playthrough where I fled from all battles, unless I am required to spare certain characters, and without selling a single item. It was tough not being able to grind for money. For reference, I was playing the Switch port and didn’t abuse glitches. I also didn’t know about the optional way to get pass Toriel.

On the Xbox version I died to lemon bread and it didn't come back meaning it might be possible to skip endogony and lemon bread

We have since found skips for memoryhead and reaper bird (they only work on an old patch of pc) plus an old patch lemon bread skip. They all lose time, but the tldr is by leaving the room on the same frame you enter a battle, dying counts as winning.

Also, we now have a skip from ruins to post alphys-date waterfall which locks in TPE allowing you to kill undyne instead of fleeing her (same for Temmie) meaning you don't have to use the mercy button at all

This is not really relevant, but because of the janky hit boxes on switch, there is a pretty easy way to get behind the counter at grilbys. There is just a 1 pixel gap between the invisible walls so if you are lucky you can walk straight through lesser dog who blocks the path.
