Enjoyed the tour, amazing what a little rain can do for the garden.

Hello Rachel, I have 5 bunches of onion chives that are 25-30 years old. They keep coming back every year. I have had to give them new pots as the Minnesota winter will break even the hardest Terracotta pots. I cut them down a few times a year and harvest them and they just keep thriving. The garlic shive seem to struggle more. One year just a few but then next year very full. I do try to collect the seeds and drop them for the following year and see what happens. Your elderberry with eventually start sending up new shoots every where in all directions. You will need to chop back the ones where you do not want them.

Wow that winter sounds really intense. That gives me hope that a little drought will not be the thing that kills my onion chives. As for the elderberry, I am fully expecting it to go crazy at some point. For my friend who gave me the cutting it is essentially a weed that is taking over their yard.

I have the same problem with nasturtiums. Tried both small pots in greenhouse and outdoors. Nothing. I guess I'm going to have to do some more reading to find out the trick to it. Maybe cold stratification or hot water soak or Seed scarification ? real bummer as I was looking forward to eating them as a garnish.
