@MarkHoltze4 жыл бұрын
You definitely can, I think you did a great job and it's super tricky, but with enough patience and search imagination, you can find images that work perfectly with your sequence and not have to shoot a thing. It's been the COVID practice the past few months on many TV series I've worked on where shooting restrictions have been in place. I think producing with limitation is more in line with how you would work on a professional set/production so I'm ALL for experimenting with that. Great video dude, I really liked this one!
@dunnadidit4 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude!! Great point about how the limitations are more similar to a pro editing job, I hadn’t even thought of that!

A word that might be helpful if you are interested in the creative power of limitations is "ludology". I learned about this word in the study of video games, and ludology refers to the rules and limitations of the game world and the gameplay itself. I think ludology is so fascinating and it pertains to everything... When it comes to being creative, being completely boundless isn't always a good thing. Knowing what sandbox you're playing in gives you an idea of what game to play.

Limit your options to inspire your creativity by scrolling through nearly unlimited songs and clips for hours. Haha, I kid, I kid. But I did chuckle when you said "I don't want to show a shelf of records for too long if the idea is to limit your options." But the key was you had a vision in mind and a story you wanted to tell ahead of time and you were able to significantly narrow down your search. Otherwise, yeah, these services, at least for me (I sub to both AL and AG), can feel like rabbit holes, or, to keep with the analogy, sifting aimlessly through records in the store as opposed to [cut to single record being pulled] really honing in on and enjoying the one you truly want. It's the same thing with services like Spotify. Unlimited music at our fingertips, yet the most important feature of all is good curation, be it via algorithm or humans. Or, better yet, choose the cohesive sum that it is the entire album rather than just a disparate track (the best part about owning records, for me). Meanwhile, my great hypocrisy is that I'm one of these idiots who effectively collects gear and gets overwhelmed when it comes time to make sense of it all. And then I go and have a great time making a dumb 30-second humor piece with just my iPhone and I'm thrilled. So, this obnoxious essay (particularly this sentence) notwithstanding, the spirit of what you're saying is true. At least for me. It really is the constraints that move the needle (ugh) most significantly for me.

All my videos are 100% stock footage (including Creative Commons footage) and stock music. I've been doing that for about a year or so. I do full length music videos and mock versions of film trailers, commercial spots and TV promos. I also did a 15 minute Artlist promo that's 100% stock footage. Yeah, they got me, and as you've probably noticed, everyone on KZbin with a film related channel to plug them. Currently, I mostly use Filmpac and Artgrid, but I also have subscriptions for Storyblocks and Envato Elements. If everything you do is stock video based, you can't have too much. The key is to have a large selection and learn what's in the catalogs. There is some cross over between Storyblocks and Elements due to non-exclusive contributors, but I mainly use them fro filler when I can't find something from Filmpac or Artgrid. I'm not sure if I'll enter the Artgrid contest. I'm still learning, plus I suspect they'll be looking for flashly transitions and non-traditional edits. That's cool for KZbin, but not my style. No way I'll win any of the big prizes. We'll see...

Hello Alexa DM, I've just visited your channel and it has lots of great content! Question for you. I've jumped back to creating KZbin videos but this time around I'll be creating a new channel and the content will be more like "Top 10 facts etc" quick 5 to 10 minute videos. I've notice that my skills are taking a while to jump back to FCPX, PS, Premier and AE and I'm wondering how long it should take me to produce such videos. Where you have to create the content, go find the media (Envato for me) audio, and any special graphic element (Motion infographics) Titles, audio rings, etc etc. and yes editing all this in FCPX? I"m asking around to see if I need to outsource some of these various production task so as to cut down on the production time. any input will be greatly appreciated. thank you

I read some comments of youtubers complaining about getting copyright claim and strike for using royalty-free pictures and videos from websites like Pexels, pixabay etc., I even saw some videos saying that they got copyright claim and strike for using royalty-free stock footages from Pexels. I don't understand something. If something (which was created by other) can't be used in our video even after giving credit to the owner, why websites like Pexels are showcasing pictures and videos on their platforms as royalty free and allowing users to download? Please suggest a way to new youtubers like me to make a video much more interesting with stock footages without getting copyright claim / strike.
