Why the hell should someone throw away a perfectly usable Imac they purchased for $2,000 5 years ago, because Apple has decided to no longer allow customers with a system 5-6 years old to be able to use it? What kind of crap is that? This never ever happens with a Windows-based computer. People are still using window-based computers that are easily 10-20 years old. Visit a Bank or car shop, and you will see this often, as it costs them millions of dollars to change their systems.

This is a great video! I came back to Mac because of the drummer feature in the new GarageBand, but I noticed Apple does support a 2014 Mac mini which is a non upgradable and really kind of "nerfed" version of the Beastly 2012 Mac mini, which originally was supported by Big Sur. I was able to upgrade (legally mind you) to Big Sur on a Mac mini server from 2012 using Patched Sur. If you search KZbin you'll find it- I'm reluctant to put a link to another bloke's video from here- seems rude and I don't want to be disrespectful. Anyway, Big Sur runs amazingly well on a 2012 Mac mini. That's my daily driver and I have had no issues with updates, etc. Big Sur runs well on a lot of "unsupported" hardware. I'm calling bollocks on Apple for making an inferior dual core 2014 machine that you can't upgrade the one they support rather than the fully upgradable 2012 Mac mini. I understand that we all love getting that money, but c'mon now, Apple!

I have a hard time finding what app's latest version works with which older OSX's on just about any app. This would be greatly helpful. I have El Capitan on one partition and Mojave on another. If I get have High Sierra, what version will I get in GB then? Yosemite? etc.

I tried to get round the problem by buying an iPad, but the Scarlett Solo gen 3 almost never works with it because there is 'not enough power for this accessory'. Tantalisingly, it has worked once or twice. I don't suppose you have a solution for this???

As soon as you mentioned the hardware and software compatibility issue, I knew I might be stuck with an updated computer that is a mid 2012 but unable to write music anymore and use GarageBand but when you mentioned going back in and downloading the latest version that would be allowable on my machine, I praised the Lord!!! I'm a songwriter and I need some sort of software to work with and I love using GarageBand because it's free and very easy to use. I don't want anything like technology stopping the creative process. So thank you once again for posting this video and giving us such helpful tips!!!!!

Is there a website I can download Garageband for MacOS Catalina 10.15.x? The only one that shows up is something that requires a newer MacOS than what I have [I think 12.x]. And in the App Store it only shows the applications I have purchased over the years (Final Cut Pro etc...) plus all the iLife applications (Keynote, Pages, Numbers) available for download. There is no Garageband for Catalina..

Awesome video. Thank you for your genuine effort. Unfortunately, I'm still unable to make this shit work. I bought a used iMac from a friend of a friend. This iMac is running High Sierra and I think the actual machine was made in 2011. Now even though I own the app and have used it on my laptop for example it won't work on this iMac. Really bugs me. I downloaded the older version like mentioned in the video, but when I try to open the thing... :( I'm wondering if there is going to be such problems with other music-making software like Logic for example.

GUYS. I found solution for people who haven't install GarageBand before. You just need to get access to ANY Apple computer with Big Sur for just a moment, then log into AppStore on this device, download and install GarageBand. Then you can come back to your computer and in AppStore, in "Account" tab you'll see the GarageBand! Then just need to click cloud (download)- AppStore will just ask you if you want to download older version. Exactly as it's shown in "Restore Purchases" part of this video. And BANG, You're welcome! P.S. I'm from Poland mf's. Where other people make problems, we make solutions. Hope you know somebody with BigSur device. If not, go to the iSpot and log there. If this is not possible, you can purchase a new one (computer), follow the instruction and then turn it back. Cheers!

As an advocate of Apple products and especially Garage Band, I have realised this: This whole situation is a result of apple's aggressive marketing and control using updates and obsolescence to support new purchases. I have this years MacBook (Big Sur, iNTEL) pro and it just doesn't work as a GB machine. The 7 year old macs that I have run GB flawlessly so thats what I use. The 2021 MacBook pro is just for emails. I accidentally deleted GB from my Catalina version so this was a life saver thanks.

I've been trying to download Garageband on my Catalina Mac but can't find an older version. Does the version of Garageband that works on Catalina have any "smart tempo" elements like Logic has (even just a baby version). I just need the ability to dynamically change the tempo (get faster or get slower) of audio files. If it doesn't have this feature, then I guess I don't need to bother searching the web for an older copy of Garageband.

I have a bunch of GarageBand files from 2012-2016, I think I was using GarageBand 5 or 6. When I try to open these files on GarageBand now, they say they're not compatible. Is there any way to download those old version of GarageBand? I tried the method in the video, and while I can see that I downloaded GarageBand (I think 6) in 2014, there's no "download from the cloud" option displayed. Anyone have advice on this?

Things must've moved on in the 11 months since this was originally posted because I've had Garageband downloaded in the past, and when I click the cloud icon on the app store, it just says that it can't be installed and requires OS 11.5 or later and my older macbook is stuck on 10.15.7. I want to download and use Logic Pro 8 or 9 instead, but my laptop refuses to use the old version, and I am forced to use the newer version. So, basically if I have a early 2009 iMac running El Capitan (this is what I currently have), I'm basically "shit outta luck" right? or is there a way to "unofficially" get GarageBand for my early 09 Mac I don't want my only options being 1. It’s a 2015 Mac or newer as it stands at the moment unfortunately as that’s the oldest that runs Monterey. Yes unfortunately you’re unable to install it at the moment. If you DO try to install a patched version of the current OS, make sure to backup first just in case anything goes wrong.

I have kind of a different reason why I definitely want the 10.3.5. Version of Garageband on my new Mac. I never heard anyone else talk about it, but I can't imagine I'm not the only person with this particular reason: The 10.3.5. version contains a standard vocal plugin which can transform MALE VOCALS very realistic into FEMALE (sounding) VOCALS. The newer versions don't have this particular plugin (which comes with the basic installation of the older version). This plugin is better and more realistic as any other in 2022 FX plugin from Apple or any other available FX/Audio plugin from other companies, and it gives a fully realistic sounding female voice as result. So... I got a new version of Garageband on my new Mac (and that 10.3.5. on my old iMac, which only remins here because of THAT plugin) and I just want that 10.3.5. version on my new Mac!

I've created .dmg files of my older Garageband apps, from 10.2.0 to 10.3.5. Just incase I can't get them ever again. Had to use Disk Utility to do this.

If you simply copy the GB file in the apps folder to a USB then another MacBook it works a treat. Well worth saving those files.
