Went to Ironman Wales this year to cheer my brother on, what an event worth a flight over Taren

As a Welshman it was so awesome to see Ironman Wales mentioned!!! We're very, extremely proud of it. If anyone can get to Wales as an athlete or even specatator I highly recommend it. Electric energy. Hope to finish Ironman Wales one day.

You've forgot the Embrunman Triathlon in France: The bike course has over 12.400ft of climbing and the marathon over 1300ft. People always forget about this race and it must be included in a Top 5 ranking

I've done loads of mountaineering in Snowdonia, Wales, and although gorgeous mountainous area, weather is VERY unpredictable all year round. That said... 'The Brutal' Sounds like an amazing challenge (for the future!) :) Plan on taking on the Wales IM in the future when progress to full Ironman distance events (tough bike and run may be an advantage), ...Also many of those who have competed in Wales IM (Pro and age-grouper alike) say the motivation / support from the crowds is one of the best in the world! :)

Quite a few years ago my father, Paul Clavey completed his own personal lakesman triathlon, it comprised of a 10.5 mile length swim of Winder-mere, cycling the 112-mile Fred Whitton Challenge and finishing off with a Bob Challenge Round - the 72-mile epic fell runs that takes in 42 of Lakelands’ summits. The run section itself has 27,000ft of accent which is only 2000ft off the height of Everest. He never did much publicity for it but i am eternally proud of what he achieved. Shame not many people know about it, there are a few local articles about it if you look it up.

Brutal Triathlon also offer a triple continuous Iron biannually. 7.2 mile swim, 348 mile bike and 78 mile run including an ascent of Snowdon. Now that's immense.

This year, Brutal Events are doing a "quin" distance, which is five times the regular brutal triathlon distance! I'm down for the standard brutal. That'll be tough enough!

IM Wales is a very special race. The spectators and the support is phenomenal. You will not regret doing this race, just take the bike course easy and setup appropriate gearing.

The new race Alaskaman is crazy hard. The Iron Cowboy said it’s the hardest he’s ever done, that’s including the Norseman. Look it up. It’ll crack the top 5. I’d put it at 2.

Swissman Xtreme should be on your bucket list ! Its just an amazing experience and a great challenge without the freezing swim. Do it before it gets too popular as its already a lottery to get in. More chance for non-swiss next year as now two thirds of applicants from overseas are accepted rather than fifty fifty previously.

I hear that Embrunman is very hard too, and then little shorter than ironman distance Alpe d'Huez Triathlon?
@IA98766 жыл бұрын
Triathlon X in the English Lake district is another beast of a race. Similar to the Brutal and Triathlon 220 rated it harder than the Brutal last year. The bike is the Fred Whitton route which is genuinely tough with hills up to 33% gradient. The run takes you over Scafell Pike England's highest mountain and the terrain is tough. Worth checking that one out too :-D. www.220triathlon.com/training/iron-distance-triathlons-the-11-toughest/10816-11.html

Not really much point taking the pro drop out rate into account, those prima donnas will drop out for anything. Finishing iron or half distance at race pace means a lot of recovery and possible injury, no point finishing at their level if they aren't swimming in points.

Taren, look up the Dirk Man Project in Arizona (projectdm.org). It is brutal! You swim 2.5 mi in Lake Roosevelt, outside of Phoenix, then you bike 126 mi uphill to Flagstaff, and then you run a marathon with the finish at the top of Mt. Humphreys Peak at 12,633 ft. The race has a total of 17,000 ft of climbing and you go through at least 3 climate zones! You should come an do it! The triathlon community in Scottsdale would welcome you!

This year will be the last for The Brutal so now is the time if you want to tick it off. Third time at the Double for me this year after the Triple last year. Going to be sad to see this event go, the victim of higher costs and lower entries.
