I have a DJI Mini 4 Pro with the two different capacity batteries. When I use the smaller battery, it's under 250g and doesn't broadcast remote ID. When I use the larger battery, it's over 250g and does broadcast remote ID. (Verified with my iPhone's Wifi page.) If I'm going to fly recreationally in a zone that requires LAANC authorization, and I get that authorization, am I required to broadcast remote ID?
@psycholist7246 ай бұрын
Never mind, I got my answer from the FAA itself. You're not required to broadcast remote ID just because you're flying in a controlled area. Remote ID only has about a half-mile range so it's not going to show up on some controller's radar.

Good video. Excellent explanation. First, there doesn't seem to be an issue with getting Remote ID modules as I have purchased 3 different ones from 3 different vendors and received all of them. From my perspective, some folks are confused about what flying solely for recreation or "just for fun" means. If the flight benefits anyone (regardless of money) or the video is posted to a monetized platform such as KZbin, then the flight does NOT qualify for the Recreational Exemption. The "content providers" are flying a Part 107 activity. Just fly for fun and don't post the video to YT.

I have a Part 107, and a Mini 2. LOL I can fly if I want "recreate", but I can't fly if I want to make a dollar. It makes no sense. The drone didn't change when I wanted to get paid. With the DJI Mini 3 and 4, the firmware updates added the remote ID to the drones automatically, buuuut, the only time that the remote ID activates on the DJI MINI 3/4 is when the extended life battery is used. But to answer your question, I can't answer your question. If I knew that answer, mine would be completely free of remote ID. So we are pretty much able to fly free of tracking using the regular 249g battery but the second you add that extended range battery, it links. To the best of my knowledge, Drone Scanner doesn't record/save anything. But from the main screen when a drone is transmitting RID info, tap on the Drone Serial number and when the Information screen is displayed, tap the 3 dots at top right of the screen. From there you can export data. I'm not sure if this data is dynamic or static.

I’m hoping the FAA will once again push back the date for this rule. The Remote IDs for home built FPV drones are still bulky and the few that are reasonably small don’t have a very accurate refresh rate to show real time location of the drone.
@Poophead111 ай бұрын
I wouldn't worry about the RID units accuracy, how well it transmits. Our only requirement, is to have one that has their seal of approval. Many of those barely function, or function poorly...I'm good with that. As long as I did my due diligence, I'm not responsible for how well it functions! Fly safe & have fun!

I have a DJI mini 2. It's under the 250g requirement so I don't have to be registered. I am registered though when I purchased it. It was $5 for 3 years I believe. I took the TRUST test also. So I can fly without the ID. But if you add one, it's not able to be built in, it would be over the 250g weight, which requires you then to have it registered. FAA needs to be educated on their own policies because even they can't get their own sh*t together.

I have a lot of money in the drone, I bought several years ago as my last drone, because the money is just not in the budget anymore, I can not afford all these rules just to play with my plastic toy in my back yard. It is not a real airplane it is a toy. The FAA claims it is a real airplane. Soon you will have to take your drone in every so many flight hours for FAA inspection by an expensive FAA mechanic.

This whole drone regulation thing is all big daddy government over reach. It has been detrimental to the model aviation hobby. On top of that it is convoluted and way overdone, as is the case with most FAA (or any government agency) regulations. A prime example: Lets say someone has a DJI Mini 2 that they use strictly for recreational use, and they want to teach a younger person to fly that Mini. So trying to be a responsible person they put the blade cages that came with it on just for added safety. But now that they've done that they've exceeded the max weight to be recreational and now that drone has to be registered, plus remote ID installed, oh and don't forget that now its not able to be classed for the recreational exemption... that kid that wanted to learn to fly that drone now has to be licensed as a part 107 aircraft operator or get hit with a fine up to $32000 and isn't even out of grade school yet? And just because you put on blade cages to be on the safe side, that's Straight Dictatorship BS. Even more so when you consider the government and its smooth brained FED boys don't have to abide by the same regulations.
