The late 90's and early 2000's was a weird time in gaming. Hopefully this gane gets a remake and it gives you a way to reasonably get all the cards without having to resort to dark magic.

You """technically""" can unlock the missing cards if you have both the JP and EN copies of the game, though. It's not much better than using a Gameshark, but it doesn't imply using a Gameshark but the actual game(s). See, if you play in the EN version and switch in the JP disc during a duel, the drop list will be glithced. This allows you to get cards you wouldn't normally get for certain characters (Simon Muran will always drop BEWD, for example, and Jono will always give glitched cards that will replace one card in your deck for a different one with weird attribues and stats). I can't guarantee you can get all the missing cards, but it's quite likely you can that way. Oh, and you need to change discs back before exiting the Duel, or the game will freeze. And it doesn't work the other way around, so for JP you still need the PocketStation.

I still play this game today, on an emulator on my phone while at work haha. I can get 3 Meteor B. Dragons from Low Meadow Mage (2 were back-to-back even!) But here I am in 2020 still grinding to get Raigeki lol.

Make sure your A or S TEC'ing people for spell/trap and equip cards. I got rageiki off Mai Valentine I think. Me and my brother played through it last week and we played like 300 matches before we found out about TEC instead of POW. We had red eyes and meteor B. But not enough spell cards

It wasn't as obvious as in FM, but if you had a pocketstation, you could double your item inventory (from 32 slots to 64) as well as recieve random items each day. Nothing major to miss (tho 32 items was tight to work around), but the game was released June 2000 here in the States, about 7 months after the Japanese release. It was a Sony production tho, so no real surprise that they included support for their product

Literally all 3 questions has to do with financing and economics. I can’t say with absolute certainty that everything I say is correct, but for question 1 being “why wasn’t pocketstation released outside Japan” could be attributed to two factors One being that a shortage of supply causes a need for production to cause prices to go up further, since manufacturers would most likely require further expense for hardware to go out. Another factor for a worldwide release not being done is an uncertainty in market, while it might’ve been popular in Japan it doesn’t mean that it would’ve flew off the shelves in the west, consumer interest for the most part is very different between the two, the only congruent market you could argue against this is console hardware sales, and for the most part that would be true. However it’s merely an exception. For question 2 “why didn’t Konami leave in pocket station support” could be potential license issues, since the pocketstation is a Sony product it’s most likely that in order to use it in their game a few is required to allow the game to be sold. Since pocketstation never came out to the west it’s most likely that to save costs Konami took out the compatibility to save price costs. There’s not really a reason to keep the support in and have to pay Sony if the product doesn’t even viably exist in the market. As for question 3 “why didn’t Konami give a shit” is about as simple as they don’t really have to give a shit. While I’m certain it wouldn’t be that much of a pain in the ass to add the extra cards back in the game in some way, it sure that they felt they didn’t have to regardless, the game would sell no matter what. Of course most of what I said is pure speculation, but most correct postulations on my part. I definitely can’t say for certain why they couldn’t find a way to add the cards back in the game other than they didn’t have a reason to. Lots of games have missing or cut content when transferring over to the west.

My dad was not by any means a gaming enthusiast or collector but SOMEHOW I remember him having a pocket station. He had one game that we could use it with but I honestly can’t remember what it was or what it did. As a kid, it was just something that came out for PS, never knew it was exclusive to JP. Trying to explain this to people has been a pain as everyone tells me “oh it was probably a Dreamcast” even though we NEVER owned one and I never played one until I was in my teens.

I have the Japanese game and two pocketstations. I ended up buying like 60 old tv remotes from ebay and used the remote control method to get to over 600 cards with just the remotes. I unlocked some of the 33. Notable examples include B. Skull Dragon, Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth, Summoned Skull, Thousand Dragon, Great Moth, and Swords of Revealing Light.

​@@Cameos0 The Japanese game was set up with this function. You only need one pocketstation for the remote method. It detects infrared signals and I am assuming correlates the wavelengths to specific cards. One remote can give you dozens of cards because the wavelength emitted varies between the buttons.

I'm unsure whether you can actually obtain all 722 cards in the Japanese version as I've heard you can't get MBC and its Ritual Magic Card. On a side note, I hacked my Italian save file so that I could get them all, and surprise surprise, when you go see MBC outside the library, the game freezes. I've done this twice so it cannot be random I guess. Anybody can confirm this? Seems like mysteries are being added to the story.

Yes, you absolutely can get all cards in the Japanese version, including Magician of Black Chaos and Dark Magic Ritual. This has been confirmed in the game's code. As for the game freezing, no idea. I've hacked the card in and it always has worked totally fine, as have many other people. So yeh

You can get Dark Magic Ritual with the Card Lottery mode (see www.neoseeker.com/forums/3085/t2288673-card-lottery-codes-pocketstation-fusions ) and using it you can summon Magician of Black Chaos, giving you the complete card library. The belief this isn't possible most likely originates from the fact that for the longest time nobody knew how to get Dark Magic Ritual: I'm not aware of the password being out there until I found it a few years ago. Magician of Black Chaos is fucked in the Italian version because of the description. I kinda wish New Game Plus in this game had a harder tournament, with Rex 2nd, Weevil 2nd, Mai 2nd, Bandit Keith 2nd, Shadi 2nd, Bakura 2nd, Pegasus 2nd, Isis 2nd and Kaiba 2nd having stronger decks and a chance to drop some ritual monsters along with some of the missing cards. For example Rex 2nd would have cards like Tri-horned Dragon, Bracchio-raidus, Megazowler, Sword Arm of Dragon, Pragtical and Serpent Night Dragon. Weevil 2nd would have Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth, Great Moth, Javelin Beetle, Kwagar Hercules and Hercules Beetle. Mai 2nd would have Crimson Sunbird and higher chance of summoning Harpie's Pet Dragon/Harpie Lady Sisters. She could also have Punished Eagle and Monstrous Bird, Skullbird etc. Bandit Keith 2nd would have a much more likely chance to summon Zoa/Metalzoa, along with Labyrinth Tank, Machine King, Launcher Spider and Zera the Mant. Shadi would have a deck similar to YugiOh, with cards like Dark Magician, Summoned Skull, Magician of Black Chaos, Gaia the Dragon Champion, Black Luster Soldier etc, with a chance to drop these. Bakura would have Wall Shadow and a higher chance to drop higher defence monsters with A/S POW wins. He would also gain some ritual monsters like Performance of Sword, Fiend's Mirror, Chakra, Mask of Shine and Dark, Sengenjin, Cosmo Queen, Hungry Burger, Skull Guardian, Psycho Puppet, Super War Lion, Garma Sword and others, all of which he could also drop. He could also have a very low chance to drop Gate Guardian. Pegasus would have a higher chance to summon Meteor B. Dragon, and would also use Megamorph in his deck. He could also gain some ritual monsters like Psycho Puppet, Chakra, Hungry Burger and Mask of Shine and Dark. He would be more likely to use Anti-Raigeki, and have a very low S-Tec drop rate for it as well. Isis would have a more stacked deck, with B.Skull Dragon/Twin Headed Thunder Dragon, but also all the stronger ocean powered cards like Suijin, Crab turtle, Sanga of the Thunder, Fortress Whale. She would also be more likely to use Umi, as well as most of the more powerful trap cards. Kaiba would have Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon, Blue Eyes White Dragon, Meteor B. Dragon, Meteor Dragon, Rabid Horseman, Swordstalker among others. He would have a fairly low drop rate of BEWD and a very, very low drop rate for BEUD.

The biggest mystery to me was why they made cards cost so many starchips that it would take literal years to farm just one card. I mean if you dont want people to get that card just make it legit unobtainable, if you DO want people to be able to get it then make is so they could buy it with a week or at worst 10-15 days worth of farming (it wasnt even an online game ffs) why would it take YEARS just to get one card?

I am not a cheater in real life or anything but in the PS1 version, there is a thing called Gameshark, you might be able to get all of them and the limit you can get for each card. Imagine you put a nonflip side on your field, your opponent even when Heishin when you fight him for the first time for storyline purposes which you're not supposed to be able to defeat him, not thinking and they just attack blindly without thinking. And so they just put on defense all the time after that and you just defeat the defense monster card they put on their field and you attack with the strongest card you have directly to their lifepoint.

This is out of topic, but same reason as Digimon World 1-3 and card battle, pocket station is the legal way you will obtain gamesharked Digimon and cards. Digimon card battle has in-game way to produce those rare magic cards but need to gacha those fusion mutations like crazy, probably as crazy as 999999 star chips... Not to mention those are just cosmetic cards that not practical to use in the game, like ritual cards for YGO FM...

No, they are not. You cannot get any of those 3 cards as a single card (like you can't win any of those 3, and you can't buy any of those 3, so you can't have any of those 3 in your deck). However, you can ritual summon Gate Guardian and Blue Eyes Ultimate, and you can fuse Summoned Skull. Therefore they're obtainable, because ritual summoning or fusing a card makes it appear in your library. So you can't get the cards themselves, but you CAN get them to appear in the Library, so they are obtainable. The 33 cards mentioned in this video can't appear in the library, which means not only can you not get those 33 cards as single cards in your deck by winning or buying them, but you also cannot ritual summon them or fuse them. You can never have them on your side of the field during a duel, whereas you can for Gate Guardian, Blue Eyes Ultimate, and Summoned Skull.

I think you forgot to exclude using a game shark unlocking every card in a hack/cheat as really it is the only way to get all cards in the American version of the game.

That's a juicy question honestly! It isn't very often someone asks me a question about Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories and I do not know the answer for 100% sure. But, by golly gosh, this is one of those times! I'm honestly not sure. I THINK you can trade between them, but I am not at all sure. I only think it may be possible because I know that, at least on emulator, if I play the Forbidden Memories JP ROM and save the game, and then run the NA version of Forbidden Memories and hit "Load", it will load the same file I had saved on the JP version. Because of that, I am led to believe that you'd be able to trade between the 2. But, even if I am correct in my theory, I'm not sure if you'd be able to do it directly (as in, memcard slot 1 has NA save, memcard slot 2 has JP save, open NA game and hit "Trade" and it works), or if you would have to do it in a more indirect way (such as, saving the JP game to memcard1, then opening the NA version of the game, loading the JP save, and then saving AGAIN to memcard1 so that you technically "convert" the JP save to an NA save, and then trade memcard1, which technically now has an NA save on it, to memcard2 with an NA save on it). So yeah, honestly not 100% sure if it's possible or, if it is possible, how it would work. I'm sure there are other members of the FM community who know the answer to this offhand, but I am not one of them. Definitely something that would be worth testing tho.

Interestingly enough, if you had certain 3rd party memory cards inserted and you selected the pocket station feature on the NA version of FF8 it would do something to the memory card so that on the memory card management screen the playstation would think the memory card was a pocket station and change the display icon and such. Source: It happened to me. No idea which memory card it was though. I'd have to hunt them down.

Even if you can't win all 722 cards in the game, finding out who has what among the 689 you can win and slowly gathering them up is plenty of fun on original hardware or emulation. Winning Blue-eyes White Dragon from Seto 3rd, the Gate Guardian components from Heishin 2nd and getting the Ritual monsters in the library is just *fun* to do.

Nope, the German version has the exact same game code as the NTSC version, except for minor graphical changes and, of course, the language change. A lot of people remember things incorrectly about what cards they had, I have had dozens of people over the years think they remembered having X card without cheating, but it simply isn't possible. So Black Luster Soldier isn't technically unobtainable. You can't get BLS as a single card (as in, you can't have the card in your deck, as it's impossible to win it or purchase it with starchips), however you CAN ritual summon it. So, you're either just remembering wrong, used some sort of cheat like GameShark, or you just ritual summoned Black Luster Soldier and are remembering that. And trust me, I'm not trying to be confrontational by saying that, trust me lots of people remember small details about this game incorrectly after years and years, but yeah according to the game's code, the only possible way to have control of BLS, in the German version of the game, is with a ritual summon, which would only give you control of the card for that particular duel.

Actually I think its posiible to get all cards without cheating. You need: both versions of Forbidden Memories (Europe or US, and JP), pocketstation, modded PS2 and a flash drive. First you need to unlock that 33 cards in JP version normaly with pocketstation, then with any homebrew files manager in PS2 copy your save file to USB memory, then on PC you can change name of JP save file to US file name, and then you can copy that file back to PS1 memory card and US version of Forbidden Memories should recognize file from JP version with that 33 cards. I did same thing with game called Suikoden, I get half through the game on Europe version, sold it, and a few months later I bought US version, I did the same trick and loaded save file from Europe version. (And sorry, I dont speak English to good)
