Interesting as ever- I had this machine’s sibling as a student. Worth noting that cpus of this age have lower recommended operating temperatures than anything from the last 7-8 years. Some desktop i5’s from this generation aggressively throttle out at 80-90 degrees Celsius, but the 430m’s maximum safe operating temperature is 105 degrees - they knew this thing would be like putting hot lava on your lap!

I've always played games on my laptops. Never had a desktop. I'd say it is ok to have a gaming laptop instead of a desktop. The only thing I'd like to point out is that you have to keep an eye on your laptop's gpu/cpu temps cause mobile PCs tend to overheat more often than desktops

This is the beauty of PC gaming, in my disgustingly humble opinion. I finished DA2, Skyrim..with Intel HD. Even using things like HiAlgo Boost to squeeze some more performance. Every PC could be a high end and a low end, depending on what type of work/games you are doing and how old it was.

He is playing on bedrock edition. Bedrock edition is very well optimized for low end devices. In the other hand, java edition is poorly optimized.

Bedrock is made for mobile, and laptop or computer is far stronger than a mobile devices, beside the game is very optimized, though if i have that laptop i’d happily play Java edition, mods do exist you know, and so do tricks and ways to improve performance drastically, after all Java is still a whole lot better despite both version being the same game, and that “better” is really depends on how you look at it

A quick guide for DirectX versions and how the game utilize it. DirectX 9 games is always Rendered in Single-Thread of a CPU. Doesn't matter if the CPU has 16 Cores 32 Threads, it will only use 1 Thread to render the entire game. Online games are the exception. It uses 2 Threads where as 1 Thread for the Game itself, 1 Thread for network connectivity and players activity on the screen or minimap. Like CSGO for example. DirectX 10 Games is often visually no different from DirectX 9 if the game offered both Options in the menu. For example, the original Crysis 2007, and then Devil May Cry 4 2008. The only difference now, is the game can use up to 4 Threads of the CPU instead of just 1 Thread. DirectX 11 has the default to use 4 Threads of CPU, up to 8 Threads. Just like GTAV offers Dx11 & Dx10 Options, that just changes the way CPU Threads being used. DirectX 12 can use whatever amounts of Threads available in the CPU, but need minimum of 4 Threads no less. However it's also extremely difficult for developers to optimize any Game to use 32 CPU Threads for example.

Even back in 2009 it was pretty unusable in anything other than browsing and some light games. After some upgrades and some custom drivers it's pretty ok now for browsing and even KZbin.

Among Us took quite a bit of the GPU usage because the game is actually in a 3D engine. It uses 3D to tell whats in front of each other. It also uses it as an easy way to have menus a layer higher than in game or in another menu. The clothes are oh so slightly above the actual characters which explains a tiny glitch where if your inside someone sometimes your clothes go on top of them but your character doesn't.

And a few days ago I completed sleeping dogs on my x box 360 and that game was also looking so good. And just like you said, I still remember when I first time played GTA 4 on my core 2 due it was running on 15-20 fps but I was so happy that It was running on my computer. I completed whole game and I can't describe how happy I was. Same with WatchDogs

(My only aaa game before that was gta sa) But damn my pc was struggling. It could barely load the game in (crashes on the opening screen was aplenty) and runs around 15-20 fps (i think the pc had a Pentium 4 and some nvidia card maybe a 200 something? Idk. Also had maybe 256 mb ram?). Despite that, i fucking loved the game. I didn't care if it ran like total shit or even if it decided to play, i was just extremely happy i had an "amazing" game on my pc. The 8x AA and RTX goggles we had as kids where everything was beautiful and ran at 120 fps (even if was the total opposite) was really something else man, i really miss those moments

I'm personally familiar with two low-end laptops. Actually more like one of them is bottom-end. One is the AMD A6-3420M with the Radeon HD 6520G. Back in 2012 it was relatively decent for a laptop. It played stuff like Dota 2 and CSGO pretty well. It was an upgrade over my Pentium 4 1.7 Ghz desktop so that I can play TF2 (which I was quite into at the time. Even back then the Pentium 4 just couldn't handle TF2). Something like 40-45 fps medium settings at 768p. These days it struggles with those at lowest settings at 768p and gets avg 30 fps. My other laptop? The AMD E-300 with the Radeon HD 6310 iGPU. So weak its performance is comparable to a Pentium 4 (and is weaker than the highest-end Pentium 4s, the hyperthreaded ones). Yeah. Yet it supports DirectX11. A good way to get negative fps playing something like Assassin's Creed Odyssey on it. You know funny thing about these older AMD apus. The processor very often bottlenecks its own integrated graphics. We even saw it with the laptop you tested in GTA V. Also nice to see you play Dota for once! I play it far more often than I'd like to admit. I only have time for Turbo though.

I have a loptop still from 2010, DELL i3 cpu, 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 grafische kaart, 4gig memory. Use it so far just one purpose only for my indoor bike training program (zwift). It works but I already had to seriously strip down windows 10 to run, stop updates, use the best cooling paste out there...... Looking for a new one now because it's a pain, soooo slow.

In 2021 I'm still on ten-years-old laptop ( damn corona T_T ) with i3 2330m, gt 520m , 3 gb of ram and win 7 xD Gaming is not the main thing for me, but I can play in relatively old games in 720p from time to time: Mass effect trilogy - high settings; 50-55 fps; Dragon Age Origins\2 - on medium-high, 45-50 fps; DA Inquisition on low with user.cfg file - nearly 30-35 fps, in heavy areas it can drops to 20-25 but it happens rarely; Skyrim LE with 50-80 mods on weather, skin, textures etc + medium-high with 45-50 fps; Fallout NV\3 on medium-high, also with different mods, 55-60 fps; Fallout 4 on low settings, configured ini's, and with custom lower resolution (1024x640) + mods on optimization - from 13-25 fps in Boston to 35-45 fps in other areas. (55-60 in most interiors). The price of this laptop at this moment in my country surprised me - "second-hand" laptop costs nearly 4-4,5k hryvnas or 150-160$. (in some places - 5-5,7 or ~180-200$). P.s. Probably it’s not the best decision to use win10 on such machine (unless you have 6-8 gb of RAM, but ok, it's only my opinion).
