It takes 620 hours of ACADEMY time to become a police officer. After which the officer is put on a year long probation period where he is carefully watched by veteran officers (this is the same way it is done in Europe, European cops do not actually spend more time in academy than their American counterparts). He receives on the job training because it is understood that in law enforcement there is simply no substitute for actual experience. Thank you officers. I for one appreciate you. Blue lives matter.

claire g. My response is lol because of the blatant racism this perpetuates and the fact that it doesn't teach victims of police violence that the best way to avoid getting killed is to follow along with his/her orders until you get your lawyer. It instead pretends that all cops are white racists that profile black men and ignores the hypocritical profiling that Francesca is doing towards white males. Also, before you go on about my privilege, let it be known that I am a Latino from Venezuela, a country that is currently just as bad as Iran or north Korea. So yes. My response is lol because it makes me laugh that stupidity and hypocritical nature of this video permeate around the regressive left and turn voters away from liberals, even if the aren't anti whites.

I absolutely love this video, and its calls to action. Here in St. Louis, we are still in an uprising, and we are currently on our 39th day of economic disruption and action since yet another cop (Jason Stockley) was found not guilty of his 2011 murder of Anthony Lamar Smith. Led by the #ExpectUs frontliners and so many organizing bodies, we are still fighting for Mike Brown, for Vonderritt Myers, for Cary Ball Jr., for Kiwi Herring, and for so many others, and until we see justice-until officers are held accountable, until no one can be murdered disproportionately and with impunity, until there is concrete equity and change-disruption will continue.

Dude im half white half latino but i look more white and i still get screwed over by the police. Ive been pulled over twice for no reason. They accused me of driving high the first time even though i never touch drugs, and the second time i got pulled over for speeding, the officer said she caught me going 30 over and i told her that she is wrong because i was only doing the speed limit and she started shining her flash light in my eyes and started asking me if i had been drinking but i dont drink, i had to go to court and they dropped the demerits but i still had to pay the fine. Cops are screwing us all over and its not fair. I think this is one of your best videos, i have a new found respect for you lol.

Let’s start with the question of fatal violence. Last year, according to the Washington Post’s tally, just 16 unarmed black men, out of a population of more than 20 million, were killed by the police. The year before, the number was 36. These figures are likely close to the number of black men struck by lightning in a given year, considering that happens to about 300 Americans annually and black men are 7 percent of the population. And they include cases where the shooting was justified, even if the person killed was unarmed. I can't think of a more thankless job in the world right now than being a police officer in USA. Super dangerous, and even if you do a good job, you are still reprimanded by everyone for the actions of 0.01 percent of your colleagues. With so much demand, so much expectation, so much danger and so little gratitude, it's no wonder that there never seems to be enough "good" police officers.

It would help if people, would stop encouraging people to argue and fight with Police Officers, the violence would go down. So many situations escalate so unnecessarily because people who have some influence on others are encouraging people to automatically argue and fight and defy Police. It is crazy how many people will start yelling, you can't do this or the law is this....when they have gotten their "law knowledge" from TV shows. BTW did anyone ever see on any TV show that more whites are killed by Police Officers then Blacks? Or that Police Officers killed in the line of duty...85% were killed by a black person?

The biggest problem in black America is not racism. It’s father absence. Studies show families with father absence are five times more likely to be poor. The kids are nine times more likely to drop out of school. And 20 times more likely to end up in jail. Father absence in black American families are at a whopping 73%. Father absence is encouraged by the welfare state. In 1985 the Los Angeles time conducted a study concluding that 65% of poor people admitted to having a single status & more kids for increased subsidies income. Black people make up 13% of the American population. That’s less than a quarter. Yet, they make up 30% of the Welfare State. These are the issues we need to focus on. Numbers don’t lie.

firstly, father absence isn’t a trait of black person. This idea that black america’s problem is father absence is bullshit. Correlation does not mean theres a link and that’s a pretty basic notion to grasp. If u actually delve into the reason as to why black ppl are poorer and make up 30% of welfare is because the system has systematically made them poorer. From slavery to segregation to the redlining of black neighbourhoods to the “war on drugs” (which was later shown to be an initiative designed to punish the black community but this time implicitly), the american system has created this terrible imbalance and people simply fail to realise it , so i would argue, yes racism is the biggest problem in black america and the whole of america. PS: try using up to date facts cus 1985 was 35 years ago 🥴 and numbers don’t lie but they do mislead. Watch 13th on netflix if you want to educate urself

One thing you can do to improve the situation is to stop crying wolf. I mean - sure. There is a bias with black people being shot by Police by misstake. But that is hardly due to police dislike of black people. More likely this is a result of Black people being more likely to actually carry a gun and use it. And if this is the case - a police officer might have a split second to choose who would end up being killed - him, or the criminal. Anc can you really blame the officer to choosing not to die? And that is even ignoring the fact that there are officers who actually choose not to shoot and end up killed. Another thing to consider: if you do train cops not to shoot, you'll likely end up in a situation when criminals are free to run avay and do more harm. Possibly even kill more people. Do you honestly believe ghis would be a better solution? Or maybe the real solution would be to teach all the people - especially Black men - not to run from the police and keep their hands visible while communicating with an officer.

In case they read comments: Girl, cops cannot "try to find non lethal methods" when they are in a situation where a person refuses to comply. LOTS of people are armed in the US and cops need to assume the person may very well be armed, otherwise it's putting the cops' lives at risk. Refusing to comply is basically a red flag. Now, it's probably true the training isn't strong enough, and it is definitely true that some cops abuse lethal methods when the person was not threatening. No one can deny that. It's on video. But it concerns many white people too. The issue is that you are making this a race problem and a "cops are racist" problem which is why no one is taking you seriously and why the like/dislike ratio here is horrendous. It's not a race problem, it's a gun culture problem and a crime problem and possibly a police training problem too. In a country with so many firearms and so much crime, OF COURSE cops are on edge and easily pull out their guns. But we can't address these issues if you make it about something else like race.

How about stop teaching your kids to hate the police. When you have people teaching their children for a couple of generations that the police shouldn't be respected, you have what we have now. Those who don't listen to them when they are asked/told to do something. Just do as the police ask when they are told to "drop the weapon" or "put up your hands" or "stop right there". Many of the tragedies were caused by people not listening to the officers involved. If you are innocent that's great, but do as you are told and it will make things go smoother.. Officers need to know the entire situation before trusting that the situation is safe for them and everyone involved. They would like to go home in one piece too. It's funny how only blacks being killed by police is a crime though....

The police department has a history - I mean where they began and why they were formed. Why we went from sheriffs, marshals and localized agents to "police departments." A look at their history will show they are being trained to do what they do, especially murder and brutalize people of color. Nothing happen out of a vacuum and I've been hearing the "change the training" thing since forever. Just as we though pushing to get people of color on the police force would change things, or having video would change things. The main problem is no one looks at where exactly the police departments came from and why were they formed in the first place. No one.

Umar Soaries absolutely. but this video is not just about one community that's impacted by police violence, nor is it focused on just one solution. i agree the history of our police plays a huge role in how they function & i'm glad there's media that addressed that history & how it influences where we are today. point being, this video is meant to encourage folks to get involved with their local government and use their vote and voice to make an impact in the ways that feel best suited for them. that's not the end of the conversation or the only solution.

if you really want to end police violence against black people why don't you do a video on how obeying the law in the first place greatly reduces, your chances of having police contact. and if you do have an encounter with the police, do as they say and do not be confrontational. or is that way too much logic thrown at ya?

THIS VIDEO IS BRILLIANT. AND NO, IT IS NOT AN ATTACK ON WHITE PEOPLE!!!! The amount of dislikes is a clear example of the level of racism and bias toward "the struggle." I'm afraid to call it "the black struggle" people might say that would be racist and/or not real lmao. Or the dislikes could simply be propaganda to discredit you and the truth. I won't even read the comments, I already see people in their feelings about the truth. Shame. I am so proud, and truly encouraged that you are using your voice to fight for change. It truly hurts to know that there are people who will deny us justice right before our very eyes, when the blood guilt is on the oppressor's hands. But people like you Chescaleigh continue to demonstrate the very strength and unbreakable back bone that is the black people. I will no longer attempt to intellectualize our struggle to anyone who refuses to see what is shown is the purest of light. But in my honest opinion, a good hearted person would simply acknowledge the TRUTH in what you are saying here, and remove their own bias and sensitivity from the issue. Whatever issues you want to argue beyond that as far as revolution...fine...BUT ACKNOWLEDGE THE DAMN TRUTH PEOPLE! I deal with life's horror, thru comedy (per my channel) but I admire you for calling it out straight up! And whoever put these graphics together....COMPLETE SLAYAGE! Visuals are so much more impactful with the message, especially with this newer generations. Visuals seems to be the only way to communicate. Keep going, no matter what!! "I won't even read the comments, I already see people in their feelings about the truth." And thats your problem. You've already made up your mind based on your *own* feelings. Youre right that the truth hurts but the truth is that the police arent the problem, a lot of us are. Thats right *us*. Our people. Minorities (black people in my case). Our communities that kill each other more than anyone else to the point that its relatively rare for police to actually patrol the area for fear of their own lives (comparatively I've been living in fairly mixed, mostly white neighboorhoods for the past few years and, well I can say that right now theres a police car right across the street from my building to keep the peace). We kill more of them than they kill of us. We kill more of us than they could if they tried. These are the facts.

The legal standard for police is wrong. Generally, a person who uses force to defend themselves must act reasonable. That is would the reasonable person in the situation felt. threaten and use deadly force. Professionals are often held to a reasonable professional standard. That is would a reasonable professional in the same or similar situation felt the need to use deadly force. This is called an objective standard because the jury/judge looks outside the person. There are obvious problems with the reasonable person standard -- but it is better than a subjective standard. Which doesn't look at the reasonableness of the "fear" only if the person in fact had fear. So when trying police officers, the police officer essentially do not have to act reasonable - they just have to show that they were in fact afraid. This is a departure from expectations in any other profession. If we could do only one thing -- holding police officers to a professional standard of care (must act reasonable in all circumstances) will have the most impact.
