Jumpstart a car battery has never been easier and cheaper! Or has it? Here's how I made the AA battery holder: • DIY: Home made AA 1.5V...

Hi Vuaeco, If you had added 12 of the 1.5v AA batties, you can start the car first go, with out the wait. Because you had forgotten about the loss of current in the wires. When charging a battery the voltage is always higher than 14.9v The amps in a 1.5v battery is very low and can only hold for very short time. I work in a battery shop and a guy can in selling a gadget that took 12x1.5v AA batties and they would start your car if it dead. You done very good work there, Keep it up.

great work done. as an electrician I fully understand your careful messurement. And I think if that battery was a newer better conditioned one, it SHOULD start the V6. (charging not effectivly accepted or the energy not effectivly transfered) . I got GM3800 and need a strong battery in very cold winter.
@dushk02 жыл бұрын
Well, you're not a good one then. You don't wait until both batteries settle on half dead when jump starting, it is to be done rather quick and not after the no-load is under 11 V.
@PeterPetrakis4 жыл бұрын
10.5V in a car battery usually means you have a dead cell. If you can afford it, replace it with a Northstar battery. Solid lead, deep cycle; they're unkillable. You can buy them direct with free shipping or get them from Batteries Plus with a free install (and free recycle of your old one). They cost $250 (3.5L F-150 2015) but with a 5 year warranty you're basically paying $50/year which is better than the garbage batteries that cost ~$100 with 2 year warranties. My stock Ford wet battery lasted 3.8 years.
@freefall04834 жыл бұрын
With multiple banks of 9xAA batteries you would be able to do a direct start without the lead acid. I think the biggest issue you had was the internal resistance of the car battery. Often dead ones have a very high internal resistance due to shedding from the plates causing soft shorts.
@invent71484 жыл бұрын
I was about to write the same idea, with less technical details that I just learned from you. Thanks !
@nilsfrahm13233 жыл бұрын
yes and no. Yes, if by multiple you mean like 100 banks, so not practical. A car battery can give very high bursts of current, like 600Amps at 12V. An AA battery would simply not sustain that load, it will be like a short to it and overheat and stay at zero volts. The car battery would drop to like 11V, then recover to around 12V (appears in video if you pay attention). Some batteries, like 18650 LiIon, have cathode and anode with very high surface and can support higher currents, like 10Amps. What he did in the video is not jumpstarting, he actually charged his car battery first, then used the car battery. Car batteries charge at 1 or 2 Amps, so for charging you don't have high requirements. The requirements are to have voltage greater than battery voltage and make sure not to connect in reverse. He was lucky that car battery had low voltage, this way the flow of current was higher and it charged faster. If voltages are almost same, charge rate is low.

You must the smartest person on earth, Tesla should hire you. All car producers never thought about this smart idea: replacing the car battery with banks 9xAA batteries. Why pay much money for lead acid battery, when you can buy just a little for AA batteries. Ever heard of a jumpstarter kit with AA batteries? Me neither. Ever hear of jumpstarters with li ion batteries inside? I did, youtube is full of such reviews. So, if not many people thought about your idea, it means you made some wrong assumption or ignored some facts. Battery tech is hard to master, gotta admit that.

The higher the difference in voltage the higher the current the AA cell can put out. I personally would put more in series. They don't have the power do seriously damage anything in the car. 12 in series should give you a significant boost in amps. Not the initial amps but especially after a few minutes.
@haitu51304 жыл бұрын
You didn't include resistance of battery in your calculation. There is no way it can provide 400A at 1.5V for AA cell! Probably instead of use 9 cells, increase 10-11 cells to charge car battery for 15 minutes.

There's already tons of pocket sized mini jump starters available for as cheap as $60 at Walmart, harbor freight or Amazon and eBay that utilize 18650 lithium ion rechargeable batteries for the most part and also have multiple standard 5volt USB ports built into the power bank to charge any 5v USB powered device such as phone, laptop, flashlight, blue tooth speaker etc etc..... In the end isn't even worth building your own as it'll cost you $60 in decent quality 18650's alone then you still need the case the boards and chips and the jumper cables in which you need alligator clips , 10-8gauge wire and special connectors usually just to built in itself.. so this is something really more for the bored hobbiest just to see if they can do it, it's not really practical as like I said much higher capacity rechargeable compact units that are practically pocket sized are on the market for $60-150 and have been for nearly 10 years now. They are basically the same exact thing as a portable powerbank youd carry as an emergency of off grid phone charger except for the fact that they have the ability to put out 12 volts and come with a pair of short stubby jumper cables that plug in with a special connector. The technology is really pretty basic.

The hoverboard battery is 10S Lithium ion. Max voltage is 42V. You can use a hoverboard battery and just plug directly to the battery even without a BMS. But you will need to balance it once in a while. You can also use a DC-DC boost converter like the Ming He 7210A to charge it. Your solar panel's voltage has to be below 42V though. Before watching i will tell you, that it should be impossible starting from 8/9 batteries, because even if they had enough energy then every battery should give you starting current like 300/400 amps (impossible). If every battery can give you 5 amps you have to connect 9 batteries in series, and then 50-100 of those series i parallel. If each battery even can give you 20 amps you have to connect 9 batteries in series and 10-20 of those series of batteries in parallel. Why? Because when you are connecting in series voltage increases but current which one battery(1,5v) is loaded is same as current which car uses in 13v. When you connect those 9*1,5 packs in parallel current on one battery is proportionally smaller (because of more batteries) (in veeery simple explain) AND YOI HAVE TO STOP CAR BECAUSE YOU CANT CHARGE AA BATTERIES E: Your car started with only current that can give you single battery? I can't accept it and believe
