I now have updated information. After thorough testing across 3 years we find the perfect heating value to be around 85 degrees. Leopard geckos can and will adjust to temps even much lower than 85 and be fine however for now I personally like the results I am seeing at 85 degrees. Our rooms are sealed off with draft blockers under the doors, circulated with ceiling fans, and heated by small room heaters. We also seal up the AC vents in the room if/when needed. Lastly, we do offer a little variance for the geckos so on average 1/3 the day will be around 82F, 1/3 will be around 85F, and the last third will be around 87F as the day heats up.

@@brandonng50 The Filipino breeders I have spoken to say they just use the natural temps, just make sure the geckos aren't in direct sunlight. they just need to stay between a low of 80 Fahrenheit and a high of 88. If you can find a spot that is 85 Fahrenheit they do really good in that zone.

You mentioned the fans for temperature distribution. Air oscillation will only achieve consistency to avoid hotspots and cool spots. To get consistent temperature in the room another good idea is PID controllers for heat sources as opposed to on/off controllers. And you can get high quality temperature proves for them. You can also get PID controllers for your fans that way you can have fans go off at a rate that results in using the minimum amount of energy for consistent temperatures. This is especially important when scaling as it will reduce electrical costs a little. Another good reason for fans of course is avoiding humid spots and dry spots and of course helping to dissipate gases being released from the tubs (e.g. methane, CO2) and replenish the air around them. Other things to consider when scaling up are air quality control (e.g. an inline fan with a carbon scrubber and some filters such as dust filters, pleated filters, and HEPA filters, and a UVC light chamber). And another thing I see a lot of breeders missing is floor, wall, and ceiling materials. PVC-U cladding is quite affordable, easy to clean, and antimicrobial. And epoxy flooring is another good option. Hygiene becomes more important as you scale as the potential losses if something spread could be catastrophic to ones collection. And since in breeding conditions we are dealing with specimens in such close quarters and small enclosures under breeding standards issues can spread fast. I feel like doing a series covering these would be a good idea for those wanting to scale who lack knowledge of industrial design. And then there's quarantine enclosures. A large cabinet with negative pressurisation is a good option here with the output air being filtered to avoid the spread of potential pathogens. I've seen a lot of breeders invest a lot of money in animals while avoiding quarantine rooms or cabinets only to lose their entire collections or a substantial portion of them. Impulsiveness is a business and hobby killer at scale, not to mention reputation. Standards need to be set and advocated in the community for sure.

Hey ur welcome and thank you so much for ur donation. Afer making this video I now prefer 85 degrees instead of the 90-92 degrees i recommened in this video. I experimented at 85 and found the geckos digest just fine, no vomits and I do believe if you go above 90 degrees all the time you may see fertility issues (maybe), it was not proven, but i lost some eggs at this time that should have been fertile, and I thought that might be it. Ball pyhtons are known to drop in fertility above 90 ambient as well so maybe leos are the same. Text me anytime u need help! 480-299-7657 :) :)

That's actually quite interesting about the school. I am thinking now that the geckos get used to a temperature and behave differently in other temps. So I actually have not bought heating for my PVC vivariums ( it's like $700), so they sit at room temp ( I'm in southeast Texas and cold feels good so they're around 70-72), and I have not had any problems whatsoever with my geckos. All four are eating and pooping perfectly fine with no issues. I have not found a single regurgitation, so I think it depends on what the gecko is used to. What do you think?

@GeekyGeckoCreations
@GeekyGeckoCreations Жыл бұрын
Very good question. So I put a lot of time into my leopard gecko rooms to ensure temperature control is accurate. We have a space heater which is controled by a thermostat for the room, a ceiling fan to delegate air evenly around the room, wind blockers under the doors to prevent drafts and I close the AC/Heat vents and duct tape them shut if need be to make sure everything stays the temps I want throughout the year (I make minor adjustments as seasons change but most procedures stay the same throughout). Lastly I have wifi connected thermometers to let me know at all times the temperature and humidity at any one location in the room. Through all these methods I have been able to successfully keep leos this way, breeding, rearing babies, etc, for 2+ years now with great results :)

Oh thats great! In this video I was talking about room temps without a heating pad, since typically leos need some amount of heat to digest. Just how low can they go still needs to be studied but Ive seen some digest as low as 82 without a hot spot and some people reported to me their leos adjusted to digest at 75-80 without a hot spot. This is of course not suggested, but rather the industry standard is about 85-90 hot spot but its interesting to think about!

Man! I wish I watched your video before I bought my tokay gecko. I’m in California so tokay geckos aren’t exactly a common lizard here. I bought one today and the tallest enclosure they had which was a 12x12x20. I got the following -Zoo med 40w nano dome lamp fixture (3.5 inch dome) -40w Zoo med nano basking spot lamp (it says daylight, heat, and basking on the front of it) The store employee told me that enclosure would be big enough. And he also told me to set the heat lamp on top of the wire mesh of the enclosure. I did that and I smell something funny. Not sure if the ceramic has to burn off or what. It’s odd that I have to put the lamp on top of the mesh. Does this sound right? It’s a juvenile is what they told me. Male. I thought I could just have it in my house. I keep my house at 67-70 degrees F. I bought a heat lamp for the gecko but I know I’m only supposed to have that on for 8 hours. What do you recommend I do for the other time so that he isn’t too cold? What should I do until I buy a deep heat projector or ceramic heat lamp. What wattage do you recommend? 12x12x20

He also does not eat much but looks healthy. It was suggested that it may be due to the low tank temp. This will not work for the majority of keepers. Even in your situation, you’re depriving the animals of their basic requirements to function. Leopard geckos are super adaptable and hardy, but why put saving money above meeting their daily requirements? I’d love a video of you showing live readings of the temperatures in your racks. So much variables in this setup and it directly puts the animals at risk. Even you feeding the day before a school event is irresponsible. The confidence in your ignorance is astounding. If you feel so confident in your ways, I’d love to invite you to a live to cover this topic, lemon frost, and your ideals when it comes to wholesaling animals. That way, you can see what other reputable breeders and hobbyists alike think of your “programs”. The animals deserve better.

As far as temps go, I'll show you on the live, our rooms stays constant from side to side top to bottom because of air circulation, just like an incubator does.
