The poor locals live in remote areas that although inexpensive are unacceptable as retirement homes due to lack of social activities. Small cities provide the stimulation that retirees need at inexpensive prices.

My Social Security is only $1,000/month which is why I'm trying to find work online so that I am able to do small trips in order to see the beauty that Mexico has to offer.
@williamtiffee3799 Жыл бұрын
It's a broad range (i.e. From 900ish, to around 3.3k. USD per month?) so I seriously doubt most considering relocating southward, etc. are getting 1500- 3000 monthly (hence the California, etc. "Exoduses...") but see why he choose the median income valuation... to " keep it simple," here.) I'd be asking cities, to resorts, developments, etc. to 'sponsor' (or comp?) my videos, mentioning them. Particularly if I also had, good drone footage.

You can live comfortably in Mexico 🇲🇽 if you plan it and buy a house or save money to pay off a house in Mexico while you are living in the US and working so the house is paid off by the time you’re retired. The Social Security will be enough to have a comfortable life if you have a house paid off.

I find it hard to believe that $1800 is the average monthly social security. I had to retire at 62 due to a stroke, and I only get less than $1200. I have to live on that here in the US.

The top figure for Social Security is 3300 and the lowest is $900/month, so that's how figures get calculated.
@williamtiffee3799 Жыл бұрын
@@mtngrl5859 They are also based- upon what you EARNED (and were taxed...) during your working life. (Hence, the broad range...)
@mtngrl5859 Жыл бұрын
@@williamtiffee3799 Exactly, but my point was top retirement income is $3300/month . So, if you made 1 mil a year or $100,000/year its limited to the top range. If one was a spouse and never worked, their amount is around $900/month. So, not all social security income is actually earned. My other point is if someone was receiving $3300 month in benefits, they likely had a high income and had other assets ( real estate, 401k etc), so they are less price sensitive. Many people from the US, Canada sell their properties and buy a home in Mexico, so by doing so are already permanent residents, so it is very easy to live on social security if they already own a home.

Well if you are willing to do things like clean your own house, mostly cook your own food and live in a middle class neighborhood on an affordable small city, the answer is YES. That's more than enough. Now if you want to live like Jordan (posh neighborhood, eat at fancy restaurants, travel to touristic places and feeding laska better food than most Mexicans can afford) the answer is NO LOL
@TangerineTravels Жыл бұрын
If you live in Pachuca like the example I gave in this video, you could live in a nice home, have a housekeeper (maybe not living with you but coming once or twice per week), eat out every day, and sometimes at fancy restaurants. I think one could live like me on $2000 a month or less in Pachuca. Minus the travel. The videos isn´t exactly a representation of how we live. For example, in the videos I like to show a variety of budgets. So in one video we´ll get street food and in another we´ll eat at a fancy restaurant. And as for travel, well that´s more expensive but for me it´s a necessary business expense.

He has covered the same topics you list, Jose Arteaga also has a channel he has done a video with Jordan talking about this, I myself would clean my own home and cook the majority of meals, I live a modest life in the states and that wouldn't change if I moved to Mexico, the draw for me is the people,culture, food, weather and the way people there enjoy what is important, faith and family, society is the way the states used to be 70 years ago, which to me is a wonderful thing, I hope that fancy folks decide to stay in the U.S., I never want to see Mexico change in those ways, it is what makes it beautiful to me.

@@mjc42701 Actually, Mexico has changed a great deal ( as has the US/Europe etc) since I first visited as a teenager in the 1970's. At the current exchange rate $1827 USD is $2498 CAN. The average Canadian pension, even with the GIS (Guaranteed income Supplement) is $1942. With the increase to the minimum wage in Mexico the new required income to qualify for temporary residency is now $1946 USD, or $2661 CAN, just over $700 a month more than our pensions. Back in 2017 I barely managed to squeak through to qualify and got my temporary residency and loved my two years in Ajijic, but there is no way I qualify now. Forced back to Canada after I lost one of my pensions because I had been out of the country more than six months I miss Ajijic every single day. The weather. The local people. The culture. The question of whether you can live on $1,833 depends on so many factors. First, how do you want to live? If you want to live in Mexico City in a luxurious apartment with servants, it might be very hard, but if you want to live in a non-touristic city (Mérida, Puebla, Oaxaca), you can live very well. A quick look at Numbeo will show you that Mexico, despite recent increases in prices, is still very affordable. If the average salary in Mexico is $610.00 a month, you would be considered rich by most Mexicans.

Individual SSDI is $914 per month. That is the full time minimum, thus even the minimum full time benefits would have you comfortably in middle class, but like always it depends on location just like how $75,000 in NYC, LA, SF, Seattle, etc is a struggling wage, but in Buffalo, Cleveland, El Paso, and San Antonio you would be living good with that. Luckily in Mexico they don't have Buffalo or Cleveland weather and could live in paradise easily for $914 per month if you avoid certain extremely overcrowded and over touristy places like Cabos, Cancun, Mexico City, Sayulita, etc.

Of course, you can live in Mexico on retirement social security. I only get about 600 a month SS and am easily able to pay rent and food. HOWEVER. I live with, guess what, Mexicans!! Most ex-pat americans ( mostly middle class) who come to live in Mexico, DO NOT live with, or as, Mexicans. They live separate in american style apartments, or gated communities and mingle very, very little, if at all, with the vast majority of common Mexicans. In the areas where they live, there is increasing resentment from the natives, as they are causing rent and food prices to rise. I purposely avoid ex-pat communities like the plague. I live humblely in a small rural community, certainly without disrupting the local economy. I own my concrete block small humble house, which cost me about 700 USD to have built. I send my neighbor about 25 USD a month to watch over my house when I'm not there. When I am there, I give her about 25 USD a week for electricty, water, wifi, and other utilities, as I am connected on to their lines.( that's about 100 USD a month) for everything except food. I mostly cook my own food, so I spend about 50 USD a week on food. That still leaves me about 300 USD a month for pleasure, on my 600 USD a month SS. For poor people such as myself, it sure beats living in the woods or under a bridge in the US!!!!

I love it! Every so often I get to eat freshly killed free range chicken, goat or pig. When they have some fiesta, I always get invited( free food, drink, and music). If I feel lazy and don't feel like walking to the store, I give one of the kids 5 pesos( about a quarter) to go for me. If I need sonething done in my house, or run out of something, I just yell out my door for help. Although the dogs aren't mine, they protect my house, just like my neighbors. It's great!

Central Mexico is cheap as long as you don’t pick a tourist city but anyone interested in moving to Mexico should check out cities in northern Mexico. They are even cheaper ( stay away from border cities) Private health care is way too expensive in Mexico but good alternative here is IMSS as already discussed in the video unless you have pre existing conditions then you are not covered either. That’s why I like cities in the north where you can take a bus ( depending where you live it can be 5 hours +) or plane and in one hour you are in the US. If you have Medicare and a supplemental policy you are covered in Mexico in case of an emergency. I do live there 3 months of the year then I come back after the summer is over to the US. it’s nice to detox from all the drama going on here but Mexico political landscape it’s the same. Excellent, well thought out comment. Today, more than ever before, Mexicans are very price conscious. Prices are rising DAILY. I know, I just came from the supermarket, where a couple items I bought are higher priced today than they were 3 days ago! Rich and middle class americans moving here are certainly NOT helping that situation. Mexicans are fully aware of that, and are very sensitive to that. So far, there has not really been too much anti- immigrant violence ( except against central americans and haitians moving through the country). But, to tell you the truth, I do see that changing, as more and more rich americans move into the country. ( rich according to Mexicans, not according to americans). I purposefully don't live anywhere near ex-pat communities to avoid that problem. The vast majority of Mexicans are NOT middle class. The vast majority of american ex-pats ARE middle class. Go figure!

If you´re a legal resident, you can get IMSS for something like 50 bucks a month which will cover you for everything, even pre-exisiting conditions. Some others choose to live in a place where it´s close enough to the US to get back there for any healthcare needs.

I just moved outside of Monterrey which is not a cheap place. I don’t know how Mexicans do it. But i am having a difficult time making it on 1750/month. Reason 1. I have animals to feed and date forces and i can’t ignore the starving ones around me so I’m feeding many cats and some dogs. And i need more than an apartment a small house with yard and one that allows pets. 2. I am used to eating non pesticided and herbicided food. I cannot find any decent produce here except at HEB and Costco. I’m figuring much of Mexico’s organic produce is exported. There’s so much junk food and soft drinks everywhere. I always prepare food at home-no animal products. My rent here is about 500. My US phone and data for IPad is 125.00. I have a small storage left in the states till i know I’m staying.. it’s also more difficult if your by yourself 2 people obviously halves basic living. I came here for rock climbing and especially because i had friends. I have problems because I cannot stand being walled in.. very claustrophobic. Needless to say I’m looking for where to go. ✌🏼 enjoy the videos! Thanks!

Just a thing, using the minimum wage in Mexico is kinda useless to explain things, almost no one actually makes it, historically it was only used for the measures of certain payments that you have to done to the government for different reasons like taxes, paying traffic tickets, mortgages, economic penalization to private companies and other kind of dealings with the government, like let's said I want to get a new birth certificate, it would cost me "one minimum wage" or 102 pesos back in the day or if a ran a red light, the ticket would be like 20 minimum wages or around 2000 pesos, if the minimum wage went up I'd have to pay more to the government for both things, now imagine for people who had to pay their mortgage how much it would affect them, which is why it was always kept officially kinda low so to no impact people that hard when having to pay for those kind of transactions, of course it was a terrible system but it was only until recently that the UMA was created for those transactions and to separate it from the Minimum Wage (like 5 years ago) which is why only until now the minimum wage has started to go up little by little with the current government.

In an internet search, the median income in Mexico is around $1500 month, so the difference is not that great anymore.
@kellyname5733 Жыл бұрын
25% are making $700-$100 a month. As one steps up that is where 50% of the folks make $1800 to $2000 monthly. The next 25% are averaging $5000 monthly and up. The younger generations want wayyy more than their parents any wayyy more that their grandparents. They go to college and they work hard. There is a HUGE middle class emerging in Mexico, hence gentrification by Mexican citizens. For immigration UMA, sadly, is not being used, still using minimum wage to determine income qualifications. If UMA was being used then many more folks would qualify to immigrate to Mexico. Jose Arteaga just dropped a new video a few days ago, 'How much does a typical Mexican make in Mexico', explaining these figures. They are pretty close but not exact. He shows the wage growth has tripled in recent years. I have been saying it for years that Mexico is growing/prospering while much of the globe is failing.

It´s a bit higher than that considering they get paid on their non-working days and then add another 25-30% for benefits, but those are low wages nonetheless. @@jamescalifornia2964 Toluca is the coolest ( temperature wise) city in Mexico. But insecurity wise, it is iffy. I will explain it like this. Criminal control here in Mexico is directly related to political control. Mexico city is surrounded by 5 major cities, each in it's own state. Toluca is in the state of Mexico, here referred to as EDOMEX to not confuse it with the city of Mexico ( CDMX) or the nation of Mexico. This state continues to be under the control of the political party known as the PRI, well known to be the drug cartel- mafia controlled party. EDOMEX is one of the 5 most insecure states in Mexico, next to Guerrero, Tamaulipas, Zacatecas, and Sinaloa. The two cities to the west and south of CDMX ,Toluca and Cuernavaca, are, without a doubt, more insecure than the other 3 cities to the north and east, Pachuca( where I am currently at at this moment), Tlaxcala and Puebla. Temperature wise, all 6 cities( including the CDMX), have very similar mediterranean type climates, with Toluca being the coolest. Cost wise, Puebla is definately the most economical, with Tlaxcala and Pachuca coming in a close second. Security wise, Pachuca and Tlaxcala are definately the safest( much safer than any american city).
