I still remember watching C.A.P’s video at my miserable tire job making 17$ hr when he was saying “You just have to go for it, you just have to start” and then right there I QUIT and walked out. I started my detailing business in 2021 and have been making 8-10,000$ a month working half as much (hour wise not days). I just booked a 3600$ week SOLO. So just want to say thanks to jason . I also got into my own 3 bedroom house with large 2 car garage as well coming from living in my moms house when I started. Thanks guys!

Jason and Greg you two knocked this video out of the park. The graphics are entertaining and keep me glued in. As an enthusiast who does my family's and a few friends' vehicles on the side, that was a very helpful video, Jason! I don't have any plans or desire to go full-time with this at my age, but you sure covered all the things I need to think about even at my desired level. My biggest challenge has been figuring out what to charge, especially since it's just family/friends. I'm not relying on the income, and I do it because I enjoy it and also want to help people I know. Hard sometimes to find the balance. Thanks again, Jason! I really appreciate your sharing this!

Jason the timing on this is crazy!! I'm 17 years old and a senior in high school and just did my first full interior detail. I charged 20 an hour so it was a bit low but i am still in school. I can't begin to say how grateful I am for you putting out this video. Also will you guys to another detailing academy for paint correction?

What a well done, fact filled perspective of running a detail shop or business in general. Thank you ChicagoAutoPros for building a legacy and willing to share with others. The simple fact that any product or service sold to a customer is in fact a business. Learning any lessons learned early is to your advantage. All risks and rewards are endured by those that are willing to see the success on the other side of failure. Again thank you from a faithful subscriber.

I can't say enough about this video and how perfect the timing was for my present time in my business. This June is our third year in business and many of these concerns, questions, and thoughts are a part of our daily life. This video is amazing. A big mistake we have made is TAXES. Make sure that you set aside those taxes, pay in quarterly, set up your sales tax accounts and SAVE. We had a $12,000 tax mistake from ignoring the proper means of taxes for 3 years, and it is costing us roughly $15,000 after coming to the resolution. When Jason says SET THIS UP PROPERLY he is not joking. We have made large strides and made a lot of revenue but haven't seen much of that due to costly mistakes in expenses and poor practice in taxes. We are looking up now, but that would be my biggest suggestion right now. Practice consistent saving and tax systems!!

AMAZING video!!!!! I wish I could get myself to think that way. One thing I would try and aim for would be to pay your employees a bit better in order to not only keep them but to encourage better employees which in turn would generate a higher quality of details as well as possibly having someone that will gladly help you build your business if they have great pride in what they do as well as who (or business) they are working for. Using your scales raise the rates by even say $10/hour (to offset the increase for your employee) and then they may feel like they are making a significant amount and making $25/hour for your company may significantly outweigh the desire to move on and set up their own mobile/shop as well as potentially pushing them further into detailing with less employee turn around. One thing work places I have worked missed is happy employees have significantly more value

I started a Mobil detailing business in June last year. I live in California surranded by very affluent neighborhoods. I figured that if I don't make a minimum $50 an hour it's not worth it. Thanks for sharing this information, very valuable. Jason, you mentioned that it took 3 years to you guys to start making profit with a shop. Were you able to pay your personal bills from doing the business or you lived 3 years from your savings? I guess you paid yourself a salary? Were you able to pay yourself a salary from day 1 or you lived on savings for some time? Also, how long it took you to grow to a bigger shop from your first one?

I have been doing mobile detailing for the last year. It has put food on the table and I have even able to save a little, but I have been strugling to decide if I want to scale up the bussines because I have been running the bussiness from my personal car and I don't know if it worth the hustle. For what you saying I shouldn't spect to get rich doing datailing unless I'm in the 1% of detailers who only work for rich people after many years of climbing the ladder. I like detailing but I think that I'm just going to try to increase my hourly rate and offer more expesive services, like ceramic coating, etc. I don't want to have that many employees when the margins are so thin. Thank you

As a CPA: "Just accept cash" is a risky statement. Yes while accepting cash is fine, it still needs to be reported. The likelihood it will be reported by you is probably low but your customer may if it is significant. Ex: If your customer is a car dealership and you wash a significant number of their cars. They will look to write it off as an expense and report to Uncle Sam that they are spending $100k a year washing cars. Uncle Sam wants to know who they have been paying money to (you namely). They will check your return to see that you reported that and if you didn't, say hello to tax evasion. Now will that likely happen? Probably not. If you are doing enough work to have it as a deductible expense for a business, you're making enough to properly report your income. Just a disclaimer.

Hey, I have a question I’ve been detailing for about seven years and I’ve been at the $250 mark for a full detail on a sedan STARTING rate which brings me to about the $50 an hour range for my detailing services. I am mobile and have one van now I just received an offer for a dealership, but they want to pay me $100 flat rate no matter what size vehicle do I take that at a guarantee of 10 vehicles per week do I take that and hire an employee and put them there once a week or twice a week to handle the 10 cars per week and I’d buy another van and continue dealing with my regular clientele The reason I asked is because at my rate of $50 an hour I don’t really see me doing a good job or even if I put an employee at the dealership of them doing a good job at $100 per car when some cars may take about 3 to 4 hours coming from a dealership at that rate I would be at about $20-$30 an hour per your chart should I just take that deal to generate more income as an add-on power stick to my guns with the dealership and make them pay the $50 an hour I know this is a long winded question, but what should I do in this scenario,, I am glad I found this video because now I am thinking about joining your Detail wise program

Okay. There will ALWAYS be a price haggler or complainer. Charge $100-$150 for exterior only. $250-$300 for interior only. Add-ons will account for skill, time, product cost. Charge 3x the product cost to account for skill, time and product cost. You will average $100+ an hour not including tips. Use 100% of tips for chemicals, food and gas. Lastly, INCENTIVIZE CASH to show Uncle Sam you only made $20,000. Reality you made $160,000. Don’t tag the IRS here haha 😂.
