Great overview. My only criticism is that it would've been nice to have titles at the bottom of each clip to better easily identify the camera being used. While some shots were clearly easy to make out as well as your explantation of which was which it still would've been nice to have a little tag or marker at the bottom saying "iPhone 11" or "C2".

I just did some tests as well using Filmic Pro and the native camera app and there was just so much noise if I didn't blow the daylights out of the scene with lights. I looked everywhere for anyone with the same issue and I found this video. So, thanks for making this video. I thought I was just crazy because I couldn't find anyone else with the same issue.

I don’t really feel like this review makes sense in the way go about it. You put the iPhone in such unlikely situations and ask it to perform against a machine that not only has 3 or more times sensor size and uses n times bigger and sharper glass but you also ask yourself if those results you’re getting are manageable to make a Film. The instances you picked are rare and I feel like a truly experienced artist committed in such a creative experience would already know that he’d better stay away from those situations because of the nature of the tech he’s using. Also KZbin is a place where it has been shown very clearly what good results IPhone’s can bring to someone brave enough to record with them. I just guess the video would have worked better as like general guidelines on what to stay away when shooting with iPhone.
@dinomite37945 жыл бұрын
I disagree. The whole point of the video is to push the iPhone it is obvious that he needs to compare it to other cameras to see the difference between studio grade tech when compared to the iPhone. These “rare scenarios” you say are just ways to test the iPhones capability and so even though it’s true that the shots are very specific, it still is an excellent method to compare iPhone to studio camera

At 3:15 the colour was much bluer than the iPhone footage. Which one was closer to the actual colour of her clothes? Also I wonder how much the Smart HDR on the stock camera app would help in the scenarios where the phone struggled during your tests.

Hello just found your video. I do photography so your video has been the best I have seen in comparing real world comparisons. I thought it was just me since all the reviews keep touting how good the camera is. Well I am finding the exact same issues as you with soft box lighting in interviewing people. Once I seen you footage of the actress with a front light her skin tones looked just like mine all muddied up lots of noise and the list of issues goes on and on. Thanks again, I will be buying a proper cinema camera, my move to video has been rough lol !

if you can't shoot a movie with an iPhone, it is not the iPhone's fault , Soderbergh shot two in a row on a much less advanced phones.
@foljs58584 жыл бұрын
I think the idea is you can very much shot a movie, and get people to like it and not even know it's a phone. It's mostly about the story and the framing, motion, performances. But you just can't get the post-processing possibilities (color correction etc) that a larger camera better codec gives, or the shallow depth of field, or the nicer skin tones.
@welldone82354 жыл бұрын
@@foljs5858 that wasn't a question, and that is obvious , but only non professionals can take an iPhone frames as a cinema camera footage, even low end :)

Sure! Get Audio, Lights, Set... Actors who aren’t Union, Space and or Permits and you can use either camera... if you are shooting for a smart phone screen. I bought my iPhone 11 Pro Max (and an Insta360) for BTS but I still am under the delusion I can shoot my main parts on the Nikon Z6 system... and even that promised ProRes RAW for the Atomos Ninja V... in August (2019) and I’m still waiting (a long with everyone else who was duped)

Excellent information -- thank you so much. I need a camera for music demos, and this is helpful. I think a B+ is fair for "storytelling" or making drafts of film ideas that would be larger later on. :) I've had a lot of the same issues with older iPhones as well: not enough light or too much light sensing.

It’s a phone, with camera abilities. I would not expect this to properly compete with dedicated equipment. This is something to get you started with, experimenting and learning. Or if the story requires a certain less cinematic look. You shouldn’t show up on set with your iPhone on a film set in Sichuan province shove the red aside and start filming iron man 43: Cheng du to the rescue.

With the advice to upload more footage instead of photos to earn more income, I start uploading footage. With my iPhone 8 Plus almost all footage is rejected for Noise / Artifacts or Frame Rate / Shutter speed. I thought my phone was outdated to do stock footage, so I upgraded my iPhone 8 Plus to an iPhone 12 Pro. Most of the time I use the Filmic Pro app. Nonetheless I still get the same rejections. It is no fun, doing all the work creating footage, traveling, filming, editing, keywording, uploading, and then have 99% rejected. I tried to upload some clips of this video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJvPonyMa96Bfac), but of my 5 uploads I get 5 rejections. I like to get to a workflow where I can get to acceptable quality and get the fun of creating footage. Do you have suggestions to improve? How do you guys get iPhone footage accepted?

Lets be honest, the only people that care about “Dynamic Range” are other photographers/videographer which have some of the biggest egos and will alway have something to say.
