Can You Make Money Sluicing Gold!?
Sluice boxes are great, they allow you to move more pay dirt while you mine for gold on the creek or river. That's why I call them "the bush ATM" it is literally the tool I use to make worthless dirt turn into cash!
The more paydirt you move through a sluice box the more gold you will find, provided you know where to find the gold.
In this adventure I'm using a small 6 inch river sluice from @GoldRatEngineering with @TheDSP1970 Dream Mat inside and I recover over $100 in just 2 hours!

What's better, a sluice box that moans when you feed it? Or a pan that yells when it's empty?

The thing is... aside from the drudgery, painstaking, backbreaking, finger-breaking, sweat inducing, and anxiety producing work, you make it look fun. And that's what it's about - fun. Well, and getting gold out of the dirt ATM. Love it! I love seeing people having fun doing something they love to do. And gold.... the ecstasy of gold... Queue Ennio Morricone....

I've been running around trying to find gold here in FNQ for about 6 months now. In the beginning I was making every mistake you could imagine. I'd be so eager to get into it that I ended up wasting a lot of time on the wrong type of ground. Or I'd think I'd found a promising spot, only to realize every prospector in my area has already been there. I bought a Goldmonster and then on a whim also purchased a Vanquish 540 - when I would have been much better off looking for a second-hand PI machine to go with the monster. At that stage I planned to spend an equal amount of time on the beaches, and I was worried the monster would be too hard to work with. And by the time I'd become hooked on gold prospecting I was broke again. My panning skills need a lot of work too - I'm convinced I'm washing it back into the creek half the time. Long story short I ended up a bit burnt out and stopped going prospecting for a few weeks. And now I'm looking at it with a new resolve, and with eyes that are starting to recognize and appreciate the ground I'm on. I now realize that's what it's all about. I need to do the research, hone my skills and go where others won't. I need to use what I've learnt to find it for myself. I've kitted myself out with a fairly lightweight pack and I've just started walking up creeks into the mountains. Half of these creeks have no name, but the hills are riddled with micro-veins and gold mining history. I just have to persevere, and I'll get there. As a side note I'm finding a lot of cool shit along the way. Chinese coins and artefacts from another secret site. I love it even with no gold. But some more gold would be nice haha. Have a good one Chris, thanks for the upload mate.

@markfryer9880

Keep your chin up Ben! And hold your mouth the right way! 😅 It sounds very exciting to be able to explore small creeks that aren't named because they will be ignored by most people and you can have them all to yourself! 😊 It sounds to me that if you are finding Chinese coins and other artefacts that you are in a previously worked area and my understanding is that the Chinese were scrupulous in collecting all of the gold that was available. What I think that this would mean is that you are likely to only get gold that has been eroded into the creeks and waterways since the Gold Rush times, but given that is now @ 150 plus years ago, and given some of the rainfall events in FNQ, I think that there would have been some very good erosion events since that time. Could be a very fruitful area to work. Best of Luck 🤞 Mark from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺

@@markfryer9880 Hey thanks a lot for the reply mate. That's definitely food for thought. And it makes sense that the Chinese would have been meticulous. The area I've found the Chinese stuff isn't known for gold, but I've always wondered about it just given the geography of the area and our gold history up here. When I got up there, I found quartz stringers everywhere, and by that stage I was looking at all sorts of evidence of mining. What I really like is that there is almost no trash up there. Everything I'm finding is very old. Youve really made me think now tbh, cheers mate and have a good one!

We went for a water hike about 10km round trip then started having some drinks camping and shortly after night fall we started hearing what sounded like a a little kid being whiney, turns out that mountain lions/ cougars make noses like that. she jumped out of a tree and slammed into the side of the old Chev and retreated back into the bush abit. Disoriented just long enough that we could all 15 of us jump in the box of the truck warn the other campers and dip quickly. Came back in morning to tents ripped up stuff shredded everywhere and foot prints about 6-7 inches round. Gotta love beautiful British Columbia canada
