The gold rush has been and gone several times since the 1850s. Today, in 2024, with the gold price soring to new record highs there is a new type of prospector on the goldfields.
Powered by the story's of buried riches and huge gold finds, they are striking out on their own to try and discover gold deposits like there were in the rush.
But these are few and far between. I've been a full time gold prospector for 8 years, and for the last 3 years due to horrible weather we have been banned from the centre of the creek, until now.

Way to start off your 100 bucket challenge mate, bloody ripper Reedy creek, if you want a trommel, you dont have to buy an expensive one! Build it! Check mine out. It works well, is light, robust, and easy to make. It can wash some rocks , I am telling you. I think you will kick goals Chris. Now, I am going to have to set some goals for myself. You know what I have always wondered about but never tried? Shake the bucket like a bad dad after each classified shovel. Can you get the gold to sink enough where you can remove the top third to half of the bucket, once full, with minimal gold loss?

First thing that popped into my mind was a concrete vibrator, I wonder if that would work, though it's not very portable. Maybe an experiment Chris could try.

You should save all that cassiterite. It's like 78% Tin by weight, and Tin's $33 US dollars a kilogram today. It's super easy to smelt the tin out too - just mix the cassiterite with some carbon (any source of carbon, powdered charcoal or even sugar should work), then melt it. I know you aren't carrying home giant piles of cassiterite, but if every cleanup has 1 or 2kg of cassiterite, that's like 20-50$ you're throwing away every time. Also I would love to see a cassiterite smelting video from you :D
