@@thefirewooddoctor I agree! I went the kinetic route for a few months and it was amazing on perfect logs. I could not get it to split the super knotty stuff though and it was a struggle. Hi Joe!!😀😀 I actually have a Troybuilt splitter just like the one you have. LOL!! You are so right about how slow it is and how much of a pain it is to run. I bought it about 6 years ago when my back started giving me a lot of trouble. Before that I split all of my wood with a axe and splitting maul. When I was in my 20's and 30's I used to do a couple hundred face cords per year by hand. Now I only cut my own wood and don't sell any. So the old Troybuilt will just have to do. Take care my friend!!😀😀👍👍 Logger Al

Good morning Joe. Started with the typical farm store splitter, then ordered a Wolfe Ridge. If had tried the Axis first, which I did last weekend, probably would've ordered one of those instead of the Wolfe Ridge. The Axis is a very impressive machine and so easy to use! Using the foot instead of the hand to run the splitting controls is so nice.
@jakebredthauer51002 жыл бұрын
Have you gotten the Wolf Ridge splitter yet? That would be faster than the Axis because you don't have to handle the wood as much. Because you are a commercial firewood producer you probably want to get a commercial firewood splitter. I'm not sure the Axis is for commercial use. You might want to get it if you had only Tree Service wood or as a backup splitter.
@thefirewooddoctor2 жыл бұрын
@@jakebredthauer5100, Mid-October is when my Wolfe Ridge will be ready. The Axis is a commercial machine. The Axis can do a precision splitting a lot easier than any other machine on the market. Thanks Joe for the quality videos. I have often imagined lining up my firewood machinery from start to present. Started in the 70's with ax, on to splitting maul and wedges for all 4 foot wood. Then we would cut up with saw rig on front of tractor run by long flat belt. It was a lot of work but that wood was super dry and clean. Early 80's I built a 4 ft splitter for the 3 point hitch and it ran off of the tractor hydraulics. We had it made. Fast forward to 2002 after a 15 year hiatus from firewood I purchased a pto powered processor from Built-rite in Vermont. I processed around 3000 cords with that rig and still own it, but in 2020 I purchased a cordking with circular saw and what a game changer. Super fast production. But speed also has some limits like resplitting and increased waste products. 2021 I purchased a Super splitter from a friend and I find operating it to resplit and make campfire wood to be relaxing. Funny how I came full circle but the maul ands wedges won't be making a comeback anytime soon. Thx for sharing your journey with us other firewood fanatics!

I still have the craftsman version of the Troy built 27 ton splitter. The log cradle breaking off and the wood falling on the engine and my throttle is bent just like yours. Now I use a homemade commercial splitter using some of the Rugged made parts and a 22gpm pump with a knife, 4 way, 6 way, homemade log lift, homemade crane, auto cycle and just this week got an old conveyor for $150 that I was able to get running for the first time in 20 years.

Hi Joe! Thanks for another great video. Watching you run the old splitter was awesome! How many novels did you get through?? Ha ha! I jumped the big box store splitter and bought a super splitter. I was splitting w/ a Fiskars x27 axe. I got into some cherry logs that had a crazy twist to it. I was like this is enough and ordered the super splitter. Best purchase I’ve made so far! I let those cherry rounds sit for the 2 months until the super splitter came. It ate them right up. I bought mine last fall. I purchased a HD model with a tow hitch and regular work table. With delivery to me it was $4k. I’m not sure if they’ve upped their prices due to material and fuel costs. The super splitter does struggle with knots, but you can get through them with several tries and is still faster than the hydraulic splitter. Now I’m paying myself back and then will save for my next piece of equipment. It will either be upgrading to a professional grade saw or a bundler. I hope that you’re staying cool this summer! There is one more thing. You know the epic OWB 365? It costs about the same as an Eastonmade Axis. So if there is a possibility that one can get mostly ~15" logs and some bigger, a processor can "earn itself" quite quickly. There are many variables, over here for example ghe market for chunks like you made on the Axis is wery limited. The goal here is ~10" logs in 6-8 pieces, 10"-15"-20" long...

@@ohiowoodburner I admit that I am not 100% sure about the exchange-rates, but the Axis with conveyor attached is ~$16500 Canadian and the 365 is ~$22000 US. Yes it's more, but if there is no bucking and no resplitting the payback per cord is quite substantial. Yes, the Japa is more expensive. But there are others like the HakkiPilke Raven and Falcon are a little cheaper. When fuel and time is entered into the eqvation, how do you afford to buck and split? Yes, I did wrong by saying that the Axis and the 365 are equal in price. I should have been more clear about the fact that I meant overall. I am sure that Eastonmade and Wolfridge for example are great machines, but they are expensive when all they do is split wood? What's the payback-time on a 25000$ splitter... Hope that I didn't hurt anyones feelings too bad. You shall all have a great day!

The Troy Bilt is 19 second split time. The slowest splitter on the market. I owned a Troy Bilt 27 ton so I know.

Super slow for sure Elliott!!

The Troy Built appeared pretty fast to me. Then by the end of the video I remembered I was watching on 2X speed. Get the 2X speed conversion kit you'll be good to go 👍

I am curius why there is a petrol engine on every logsplitter in the US, here in Sweden 95% uses electric engines instead (3phase 400V is normal in every household), totally quiet and no smell of exhaust.

I think you need to raffle off the super splitter. You have made us all want to try one of those out.

Simply use a electric motor instead of a gas engine to quiet it down.

The easiest way to make money with a log splitter is to rent it out when its not in use.
@Garrett572xpg2 жыл бұрын
Right! He could've been making passive income the whole time his Troybilt was collecting dust. Just renting out daily or weekly to anyone. Just bc its slow doesn't mean other people wouldn't use it

I would bet it would be returned to me in three pieces!! LOL

You waste wayyyyy to much time on the Troy built, that wide wedge tears up wood with only 2 inch penetration
@jonhutchinson29022 жыл бұрын
It scare me how you hold the wood while splitting with the Axis. Gonna chops your thumb off one day.
@ohiowoodburner2 жыл бұрын
I have friends that come over to run it and I feel the same way watching from a distance. When you are running it you realize that you are not in risk.

Too funny to be reading English literature. Splitting wood is more exciting.
