I've run a WP PVS14 and MH25v1 on a bridge for 2 years now. Very similar experience to Ethan with initial difficulties (though no headaches). Now with the right settings (usually black hot, and thermal at lowest or second lowest brightness), I can get "fusion in my brain" to work well 50-75% of the time, depending on ambient light conditions, sometimes do have to close one eye or the other, or turn up/down brightness on PVS14 or thermal depending on circumstances. With rapid movement images definitely "de-sync" but still doesn't give me headaches. May have to do with fact that after eye surgery my vision is good and my dominant eye isn't super dominant compared to the other so switching back and forth isn't hard.

I just completed my dual band setup a few days ago, iRay RH25 on the left eye and PVS14 on the left eye bridged with the Rayvn Group rail. I've had the PVS14 for about 8 months and initially had it on my dominant left eye but after I decided I wanted the dual band setup months ago I switched the nod to the right eye, only took a few outings for the right eye to perform the same as the left. Because of that I think it's made it easier to transition to the dual band setup, no brain fatigue through the first few outings. The biggest complaint I have is the overall weight of the helmet but it is what it is, neck is about to be swole.

@@CaptainNato I can shoot with both without difficulty. However, my right eye would be the dominant one I guess. I have not done much live fire while wearing these. Maybe 200 rounds and I have the NVG over my right eye while using an IR laser for targeting. I usually just use the combo for movement at night to get in position on hogs, then switch to the thermal scope on my suppressed .300 blk.

It might be worth it for some folks to go back to the gen 1/gen 2 style of single feed, multi output setup. Figure out a lense and reflector setup that overlays both images for both eyes, on a hard mount that lets you finely adjust the overlay.

Did you have a problem collimating the images with the dual 14s? What about FOM ? I went to go buy a second 14 the other day and the dude told me that if you don’t have the FOM within like 50 of each 14 they won’t match up right clarity wise so I just figured I’ll go duel band instead with the new sidekick 640 core for 3k

Thermal on lowest brightness and tuning NV gain to slightly brighter is the sweet spot for me, otherwise whichever is brighter dominates. I sometimes get headaches but I think part of it is a poorly weighted and heavy ballistic helmet.

Personally I think it should be possible, especially if someone starts experimenting with this when they're young... after all, the brain already merges two slightly different images to allow us to estimate distances and the mind is surprisingly adaptable. I found this video because I've thought about combining the two systems (plus standard video) in a camera system for years... not really something I can afford to experiment with though.

Are you using a shoe mount for your rh25 that isn't even out yet? Because you should inform your customers before they buy that unit, how difficult it is to get the rh25 ocular lens to align with a pvs-14 without it at the moment.
@tactical_sense Жыл бұрын
The RH25 and PVS-14 has been my go to setup for over a year. It’s been crooked and offset on my MOD Armory bridge mounted with an AC52 the whole time and I haven’t had any issues running it like that. I understand this crooked offset situation triggers some peoples OCD but if your IPD is wide enough (60mm plus) this exact combo can work for you too. Now I have recently been experimenting with the pano bridge with two QD mounts on it. I also picked up an AC53 from IRay USA flipping the RH25 around allowing for tighter IPD adjustment. This combo is awesome because the Noisefighters QD adapters have IPD adjustment too allowing users to custom adjust the bridge and get the thermal straight when coupled with the AC53 mount. This combo still has the RH25 offset forward some which doesn’t negatively affect me. Hope this helps! It’s likely something we’ll need to do a specific video on here sometime soon!

What’s your take on the MH25v2 with the new eyepiece, is this a natural 1x or still suffer from the 1.1x of the MH25v1? In one of your videos you said it could be backed out to 1x but the only thing I can find is using a pvs14 eyepiece to achieve this which doesn’t work with the MH25v2. Is this why you didn’t include this unit in your curated dual band list aside the Nox18 and StingIr? Is there a thermal unit you find easier to get accustomed to then the others?
@yoinky Жыл бұрын
I recently got the v2. In terms of keeping both eyes open, one eye with the mh25v2 and the other naked, both images seemed to align pretty well interms of magnification. Now, the images didn't "blend" so I pretty much still had to focus on one side or the other, with the obviously brighter mh25 dominating most times. But I would say the v2 is pretty damn close to a true 1 to 1

Had experience with running a dual band system, specifically borrowing someone's PSQ-20, for an entire force on force training school. Both teams had an adequate amount of Night vision devices. My team had thermal capabilities, the fella's PSQ-20 and his dual nods with an Ecoti attachment. When it came to detect and determine where enemies were, having a dual-band system definitely pushed and allowed my side to win night time engagements. The owner of the PSQ mentioned to have the thermal feature on, but in low gain and outline mode in order to maintain night vision but be able to scan for thermal signatures. The cool thing about Night vision, is being able to see at night, that still means the end user has to scan their environment for threats. Pitch dark, a moonless night, complete cloud cover, or dense overhead foliage means youre still blind or the NVDs are working over time to intensify the image. So unless you want to give your position away to near peer threats by using IR illuminator or red lens (its still intensified under NVDs) then go ahead. The capability of thermal gives the end user to gather extra environmental info, have an extra tool/ extra edge, or be a "game changer" in dangerous scenarios.

I'm wondering if the "issue" is that you're using an analog along side a digital. The digital will always be delayed by a tiny amount. And your brain can detect that. Perhaps try two digital imagers.

I like your thought process, your definitely on to something. Digital NV has not caught up to Analog NV in the consumer market yet. When digital NV amplifies light as good or better than analog the game will definitely change.

is there a reason you don't run a single tube NVG, and just mount the thermal to your gun?

Thermal works better for scanning quickly. Scanning with a gun shouldered is exhausting. Not to mention you have to point a live firearm at things to see them. You will see significantly more animals using thermal then NV. In my use I have been in situations that without a thermal I would have never spotted the animal.

Looking deeper into some of the real issues with dual band. Currently run a pvs14 left eye and a rifle mounted thermal. But looking to add a mh25v2 to the right eye helmet mounted. As thermal scanning with loaded rifle is not ideal in certain situations. And very physically demanding especially if trying to be quiet. I’m also worried about the added weight.
