Should be something that makes sense with what people already knows.

This video harms more than helps. The default response in political discussion online is always “this user doesn’t share the same worldview as me therefor they are a bot”. This goes for every side and every aspect of the political spectrum. For myself this is the largest deterrent to expressing any political idea online because no matter who you side with (and especially if you side outside of mainstream 2 party thought in America) you will be called a fake account, “not a real person”, trying to spread misinformation by bringing up view points that don’t align with someone, even if they are backed by institutions and studies. It’s a very Orwellian concept that all opposition to ones political ideas are fake, bots, or misinformation. It is far more likely that someone disagrees with you than some advanced intricate misinformation campaign being behind these ideas.

But still it's a good idea to think that everyone, be it Quo, Green, you or me could be trying to misinform and manipulate you for their own advantage. We should be like "here is the reasoning; they *could* (not are) be lying, so could I. First, this video is more about how to deal with a disinformation campaign than trolls. "Troll" is NOT synonymous with "disinformation spreader." Second, I don't have the resources to create my own dis-disinformation campaign. Instead, I fight trolls simply by pointing out (and fully explaining) every fallacy that they use in their posts. I do not engage directly with the troll. I never engage with the argument that they are making. That is pointless, and a waste of time. I use their post as an example, as if it is some poor, diseased individual that I have brought up on the stage of a Victorian era surgical theater and point out each of its flaws for all the world to see. Quite often, the troll will simply delete their post.

Where I live, the population has gone through a situation similar to this one, in which the large amount of biased information has been massively passed by electronic means, making it difficult even to filter out what is real or false, creating a divide in the population (almost like a wall, but ideological). People act like someone who thinks the other way is a rival, an enemy. The people are extremely divided.

A bit counter intuitive, I mean rather then focus on if the person making the claims has something to gain by twisting the narrative around someone you could just research the claim yourself. I mean establishing motive doesn't do anything but hard stats and concrete evidence disproves the claim and damages the reputation of the person making the claim.

Youd be suprised how little facts affect people. There have been several studies showing that if you have facts that what they believe is wrong, it very rarely works to convince then

@@victoriah4278 Yeah, I'm having a discussion with a guy who thinks that races actually exist and whatever scientific article or study I gave him, showing that race is nothing but a social construct, or how often I explained to him that other countries like mine don't even use the concept, he just denied it. He just said "nEwsSpeAkers sAy 'soCiAl cOnStrUct' tOo, so tHE reSearChErs aRE jUsT bIasEd anD thAT OnE gUy is aLSo a coMmUnisT". I know that I won't be able to convince him, but I hope that other people in this thread will read the sources I linked. He just gave me a link to a KZbin video, apparently talking about why "races" are not equal, but I didn't click on it because I told him to send me the scientific sources that the video _surely_ used instead... How is it even possible to convince people?

The real mess is when both sides are doing it and using some sort of narcissistic and authoritive narrative to downplay any evidence the other side supports as being "misinformation", often without even providing any case at all against it.

Infants are born with approximately 300 bones, but as they grow some of these bones fuse together. By the time they reach adulthood, they only have 206 bones. More than half of your bones are located in the hands, wrists, feet, and ankles. Every second, your body produces 25 million new cells👍

Did no one notice the 'punny' names? Joanna B. Greene = D'you wanna be green? (supports 100% renewable energy) Stannis Quo = Status Quo (staunchly opposes it because status quo? Get it?) One of the many reasons why Ted-Ed is my favourite channel! So incredibly witty and informative and fun

Omg this exact thing happened in my town in the election for our state rep. She's the sweetest lady, just a local mom who cares about people and the environment and they spread the most vile, untrue stuff about her. And people bought it and are spreading it all over. If you even stopped to think about some of the stuff they've said, it doesn't even make sense, but people just keep blindly spreading it anyway.
