Long before overlanding became popular me an my girl would camp out of my work truck (f-350), a few years ago i bought a 2007 dodge 1500 with low miles, my setup, reg. cab, 8' bed w/shell, 4" lift w/34" tires, i had a professional crawl-thru installed (no leaks!) which leads to a pillow top mattress with a 2 person down bag, this leaves a couple of feet for my fridge/freezer (hard wired) and water storage an firewood, i just had a rhino rack installed with arb awning. This setup means we can stealth camp anywhere or hardcore camp in the high sierra, i like the roof top tent idea but around 8-10,000 feet we have serious thunder storms that hit without warning, even seen snow in july-august, this truck isn't for conquering mt. everest but it gets me to my fishing holes, some of which will challenge any 4x4 - from a old timer lol

Thanks for your comment. We prefer the Dometic fridges because they are more square in shape. The ARB elements I had for 1 night before I sold it because the inside is stupidly designed. As for putting a fridge in the back, you just have to get a slide and then nutsert it to the bed ;-)

It's only one stud on the passenger side closest to the cab that beaks and it does not effect anything. My 2015 Ram has a broken stud and it just seals up after the engine warms up. I just with that they would throw on a 'Rebel xtreme Off-road' package of some sort to upfit those as options or something, otherwise yea, we have to go to the PW.

A ram 1500 will drive on dirt. It will be limited tho. It’s a big vehicle with weak axles. An HD will ride rougher but have more payload for gear and stronger components to take a beating for it’s similar size I’d move to HD. Otherwise a smaller vehicle like a wrangler is better for over landing. Everyone’s situation is different and needs should dictate the vehicle chosen. I will say I took my 19 ram 1500 on back country fire roads and it was a nice ride, given the terrain. My needs have me in a 250 7.3 now. The trailer was very taxing on the 1500 and I wanted to carry more, safer, and have a stronger platform. A Dana 60 and M275 is a lot stronger…
