Great video Ben. I love PGR, I use it on the front lawn cut at 1/2”, has a lot of good benefits. Going to try it out on the back yard this year that I keep at 2”’s. Your lawn looks amazing.

Ben...got my baseball cap a couple days ago - what awesome quality..it's the best baseball cap I've ever had. My turn to help you out with your garden beds - you are constantly having weed issues in your gardens because you spray glysophate. When you spray glysophate you allow the plant to drop seed making your problem worse. You also kill off many beneficial micro and macro organisms. If you truly want to get your garden beds under control you have to hand weed.......use a garden hand trowel or garden knife to lightly loosen the soil around the root ball and remove as much root as possible being careful not to drop seed if the plant is in seed.......then you will need to gently till in a quality garden mix - something known to be weed free....And when I mean something known - you want soils made from sub soils and wood chips....you never want to use soils made from 'green waste'....cause you are just getting back what you gave them. A non-coloured natural mulch is best, however if you do want a coloured mulch make sure it's made with safe bio-degradable dye's. Also...always to a minimum depth of 100mm for the moisture retention. Please don't think that mulch will suppress weeds....that's is not what mulch is intended to do - mulch is intended to act like 'leaf-litter', to retain moisture and break down creating new nutrients.....turning into new soil......this is why hand weeding is so very important....when you hand weed you remove the plant as soon as it shoots - getting it before it has time to seed...it takes a couple of seasons but you will get on top of them..you will also have really healthy soil for your plants.......what will happen when your soil starts to become healthy......you will get micro and macro organisms and birds will go crazy digging the mulch all over the lawn - this is the only down side of having healthy garden beds......

You can do some sugarcane mulch. It is a bit sloppy though but It does breaks down quite well. You’re coming up to winter and you’ll want to keep things simple for now. Just wet it on occasion. It’s easy on the mower blades too.

Hey Ben, great vid. 3 weeks ago I did a reasonably heavy sand/level of my Santa Ana. Where the sand was a bit lighter- it’s great. Heaps of growth. The heavy patches are slow. I can’t really mow as I pull up too much sand so I’ve just been trimming with power rotary scissors. Almost daily Would pgr with a high nitrogen fert help me here?

Long needle pine straw seems to be all the rage instead of mulch in murica this season, not sure if u can get it in nz or aus but apparently it's cheap easy to install and no chunky bits of crap on the lawn that will smash ur blades up

i prefer the look of mulch and find pine messier and also attracts bugs especcially bad if you have animals bc one of those it attracts are fleas

Raise your garden beds up a few inches by adding some sandy loam, brickies sand etc. If possible add in some organic matter , $ 3 dollar bags of compost stuff from bunning are good, , dig all this loam and compost in to soil with spade or mattock ,i like to use a natural forest mulch with lots of leaf/small sticks etc if possible as it breaks down quicker than wood chips and adds to soil structure , make it at least 6 inches thick and redo every year.

Depends on the species and if you continue to use it season long. There has been field tests and you are correct it has been inconclusive on bentgrass. My lawn has definitely slowed down here though, no doubt about it.

Use a moisture mulch mate not black mulch as its paint and goes back into your soil base. Moisture mulch has all the ingredients to recondidtion your existing garden beds over time. Tanbark chips are great for aesthetics but hold no nutritional value what so ever (and they blow around) Cheers
