Can you repaint Pottery Barn Furniture? I'll show you how!

I love to reuse furniture and this Pottery Barn Bedford desk still had a lot of life left in it. I decided to repaint and use it in another room of our home. I settled on Intrigue by Benjamin Moore and since it had clean lines, I was able to jazz it up with some brass accents for a campaign furniture look. What do you think?

I also get swirls with that sander as well as the surfprep. As I go up the grits it gets better but I do have to hand sand the last pass and even at that I miss some. Who will create the sander that will not leave swirls will have a hot seller. Your secretary desk is awesome.

Mine gets better with finer grits too, it’s just so frustrating. I missed some on a piece and didn’t see it until I stained it!! I had to sand it back down and redo it 🫠

To apply those tiny nails, get a tack hammer. Also, when sanding a painted surface, bits of paint build up on the sandpaper. This can result in swirling.

Love the color and campaign details you added. Great problem solving with the floetrol. I also learned a new method to try with spraying shellac over any of the Bondo putty areas. Beautiful job, Lisa!😍

Also, in regards to your swirl mark question, I’ve mostly had that as an issue with pressing too hard on the sander or maybe moving the standard too quickly. I don’t know if you also want to try a different sandpaper, but I really love Cubitron by 3M.

I have tried to lighten my grip, but the sander moves around quite a bit if I go too lightly. I think I’m gonna try the 3M. I’m using Serious Grit right now.

I do tend to be heavy handed, so I deliberately touch it lightly, but it moves so much I have to hold it so it doesn’t kick back. I watched a video where they recommended turning down the suction on the dust collector and that helped some. I’ve also tried adjusting my speed on the sander and my rate of moving on the piece. As you can see, I tried a lot 🫠

Oh yeah, the campaign hardware really "makes" the piece! I like the paint color, too. BTW, the episode where you used a light color wash over burled wood stuck in my mind. So, yesterday I was flipping through a new Ballard catalog, and what did I find? A burled wood dining table straight out of the1970s...except it had a light finish. Wow! Now I think maybe the light finish sets off the burled pattern better than the old darker finishes. Light, bright, and lovely!

I was concerned that it would wash out the burl, but it’s just a different look. It’s still quite beautiful. Burl is lovely however it’s finished. 🤩🙌🏼

I would have left off the brass label slots on the front of the drawers. They tend to make it look like a filing cabinet otherwise it turned out great.

I so appreciate the inspiration that I get from you on your channel. I am trying to decide which color I’m going to get in the command paint for the first time and try it at your suggestion. I’ve used all of the other brands, but like the idea of some thing, fast drying and very durable. I know that you used the command paint on that dead salmon dresser that you did and I don’t remember you saying that you had any concerns about the finish on that one. I have floetrol so I will add it when I use my command paint. So you don’t feel that you need to topcoat this paint?

My pleasure! I did use the Command on the Dead Salmon piece. I only sprayed the body, but it laid down perfectly. It seemed the most texture was on the horizontal surfaces of this dresser. The Floetrol helped smooth everything out. Definitely no topcoat needed or recommended. It is rock solid and it’s not even fully cured. I’m impressed so far. 🙌🏼

the marks are made by the sand paper...the wood is too soft and the sand paper too aggressive...

I know you love the Campaign style furniture but it's not for me. The color is beautiful! But the extra accents reminds me of that person who wears WAY too much jewelry. It just detracts from the piece and cheapens the piece. 😮
