regarding haptic memory, i have a very vivid memory of running into a someone in elementary school, and i remember how my head and face felt getting slammed by some kid and there was a weird taste in my mouth that i don’t know how to describe. i also vividly remember all three concussions i’ve had and have a really good visualization with the apple

Maybe those feelings are associated more closely with some other sense, like you mentioned the taste, a stronger link. Regardless, thanks for the insight!

There was a history final where the teacher allowed a cheat sheet in the form of a standard 4x6 index card. Front and back were allowed, but it did not have to have margins. I fit around 150 historical events/definitions and showed up with it to the final. Everyone was talking about it, not because of my 6 point font handwriting, but because I did not even look at it once. Kinesthetic memory is crazy.

As someone with Aphantasia, the visualization talk interests me a lot, since I can't pull from my brain's mental library of stuff, I just go by words, so instead of imagining an apple, all I can pull is the description of an apple, it's a pretty vivid description but no images whatsoever.
@togo723 ай бұрын
It's such a wild concept to go your whole life just running with the "now picture this in your head" saying and thinking other people just also have really good imagination. I went the first 20 years of my life unaware of aphantasia even being a thing until I was talking about DND with a friend, saying I stuck tightly to the portrait art I used for my characters because that's the only way I can see them, and my friend being like "oh yeah there's a name for that, hold on let me find it"

I also currently can fairly easily conjure physical feelings and smells. Cool to hear you talk about this, always interesting to hear others experience on these types of things

I can remember all the horror sounds from ROR2 and can whistle a numerous amount of songs instantly. Don’t know if I trained this or if I’m being a part of selection bias. It’s always fun to talk about and this video was fun to both watch and listen to lmao. 2. Have you thought of more structured videos like that “It’s still winnable” video? Give me a multiple choice test of any amount of questions, and I was done as fast as I could read the questions(either knew it on the spot or didn't, no in-between). However, if they gave me an open prompt kinda test I struggled. hard. Like barely passing since I struggled to make that connection internally.

Personally i have like 0 mental visualizing (complete aphantasia) but perfect musical memory, often listen through full albums in my brain when I'm bored, it applies to 99% of voices ive heard. Its also pitch perfect, even though i dont have perfect pitch, if i think of a song with a C I'll hit the C vocally without any reference etc (though I am a professional musician so.)Its very interesting, great podcast

Whats even more interesting is that I'm a diagnosed schizophrenic so while I cannot actively envision anything in my mind due to aphantasia, I hallucinate 100% accurate people and phenomena in my daily life. So my brain clearly can conjure images and concepts, just not in my control

ok good sir, giga visualizer here. my memory is solid all the way through, but i feel like its more because i get too anxious to be able to forget those things. also the apple test as i understand isnt entirely accurate it depends more on the ability to add to the visualization rather then just visualize. so describing the apple then someone asks you to add a table then describe the table. and you can do this indefinitely. take this with a grain of salt cause i dont have any source for this i just remember reading it somewhere. still super interesting topic and kinda annoying cause i cant control my brain automatically picturing every scenario described

Something I started doing when I realized I was making mistakes on stages, forgetting to scrap, that kind of thing was pinging the item I wanted to come back to. So the question in my head before I leave the stage goes from "Am I forgetting anything before I leave?" to "What did I ping this stage?" It's a good mental prompt to help up my game.

An idea about the physical vs mental memories is based on instincts and necessity. It is far more important to grasp the idea that the stove was hot and you shouldnt touch it, rather than the actual heat. Knowing differences in severity between 2 times you tripped and fell is not very important, but either situation is more memorable by how you feel or what you sensed. Its probably made that way because its more useful to know what lead you to getting hurt rather than what hurt you. On the other hand, i can perfectly recall the feeling of another person's hand if i have a strong emotional connection to them, which makes me think our brains just disregard physical pain sense specifically.

I’d say I have like 2, 2.5 for visualization, but 3+ for audio visualization. I can recall the exact texture and feel of pretty much any sound I’ve heard before. I can remember the exact qualities of people’s voices and even perfectly replicate them to the point where it feels like I’m hearing them talk. I can even replace my inner monologue with other people’s voices if I want. One time when I binge watched Phineas and Ferb my inner monologue actually got stuck as Doofenshmirtz for like a month which was a passively unpleasant experience

When I was young I would roll imaginary objects around in my mouth. I would try and bite down on them and never manage to do it and it would drive me insane. Race talking about how we have more nerve endings on our tongues somehow caused me to remember that. On the topic of rotating brain objects, I'm like a 2.35 on Race's scale. I can do simple colour, but unless I've seen the object a lot there are usually some details that shift and change. I have to use a lot of brain power to rotate something smoothly.

I remember learning about the tongue haptic link and being like woah that's crazy. Then one time when I decided to visit Alice in Wonderland for the first time I remember I actually ended up getting the senses crossed and it was very not fun LOL. If I touched hair with my fingers I would feel it on my tongue. Also my visualization skill shot up tremendously and I could visualize like graphic novel levels of quality. Time perception was also ridiculously fucked. I work as a researcher and was chatting about it after to my mentor who's a neurologist and we had a blast talking about how weird the brain is.

Here's the thing: I _think_ I am about a 2.5 on the apple scale, but there's not enough info for me to say for sure. Like, I can imagine an apple, it's detailed, and I can spin it, but it has to "occupy" some physical location, usually between my eyes or right in front of my face. I always thought the real apple rotators imagine the apple to be sort of "nowhere"? I don't really know, but it's interesting to consider that there are more levels to the scale than just seeing and spinning the apple.

An interesting additional point to the whole memory and visualization conversation I am color blind, but have pretty good mental visualization. So I can see an apple, I can visualize water drops going down it, I can even see the three horses that the chatter said, I can even change ovject's colors in my mind. Now, the color I see and the color normal vision people see is probably different. But if you say "visualize a red apple" I can do that But the moment you say "what color was the car that drove by" I would have no idea. My mind has learned to just assume my color instincts are off compared to others, so it has become a piece of information that I literally do not retain in memory. I literally can't even tell you what color the walls of the building I work at are

I don't know if this is the best place to ask, but what do you think is the most balanced version of Void Fields? I am currently using the VoidFieldsTimerFix Mod to undo the recent changes to the timer, but I am still thinking about using a mod that also changes Void Fields back to how it was before the Meteor update (Void Fields added +1 to the stage count before that update), but I don't know if that would make it too unbalanced. I also never loop, so it would be nice to see some of the things that can normally only spawn on a loop spawn on stage 5.

When it comes to the visualization test, I'm at a 2.9. I can visualize anything, but it takes time to "render" it in. But to the question of memory because of being a visual/auditory thinker, I have terrible short term memory, I can remember something that was said to me four days ago without any reminders because my mind fully processed that conversation. It isn't debilitating, but if you flashed a picture of an animal with unique traits, then asked me to draw it, I'll struggle. If you gave me a paragraph describing a person, their ethicity, their eye color, and facial expressions, I'll be able to draw a detail image of them.
