In Boerne Texas the school is called Adjuster Academy, right outside San Antonio. I just finished my 40 hours with them and it was a really good pre license course.

Can a drone or multiple drones be used by an IA? And completely avoid climbing roofs.

Drones may be used when you have an obviously fully wind-damaged roof. However, drones are mostly not approved for hail losses.

Good tip Matt about always making sure your ladder extends 3' from the roof edge.Another tip from the school of hard knocks. Never use the insured's wooden ladder to save you time from setting up your own.

Before I watch the video - I used to be massively afraid of heights. I would have nightmares constantly about heights. Since then, I've worked as a longshoreman in some super sketchy high situations. Now, I find myself super tempted to climb every high place I can. I'll be moving to colorado soon and starting my life as an insurance adjuster, and instead of fearing the heights in my future im excited for them.

One more question. Is there any insurance group or IA group that is taking the lead implementing the used of drones vs. ladders as a safety measure for 'ALL' roof inspections. Meaning the group completely forbids adjustors to climb roofs.

Hey Stanley... I don't think that at the moment drones are making much headway and there's no company that I know of that forbids adjusters from climbing roofs. However, many insurance companies DO forbid their field adjusters from climbing roofs that are 7/12 or greater in pitch.

Agree. Also, that first roof overlooking the side of a mountain! Where you have to access from the overhanging deck.

Don’t take chances with a telescoping ladder. Little Giant is THE BEST…

I've handled aprox 4-5k claims with a telescopic xtends ladder. They are great. Don't get the cheap nock offs and make sure everything clicks in place and you'll be fine.

@@johntrevett2944. My point is who makes the better, safer ladder and for my money it’s Little Giant. I’ve read more stories about telescoping ladder accidents then I’ve ever heard about little Giant.

@@tonyowens6802 Better/safer is an opinion. I've known plenty of people that have had issues and injuries from little giants, werners etc. I also know decades long adjusters that have used almost nothing but telescoping ladders and have never had an issue. Those that have issues seem to be those that buy Chinese knock-offs, double pulls and not ensuring they are locked correctly. To each his own.

I will get on a 6/12 no problem, 7/12 if must and after that…. At what point does ladder assist come into play?

Depends on the carrier. 7/12 and greater is most common. I recommend you check the premise online photo to see if roof might require a ladder assist so you can get approval quickly, if needed.

If he becomes a staff, a lot of the carriers won’t allow their adjusters on steep or high roofs. 7/12 or above.

So once you come to jester you should get some experience from a firm first and then go and be an independent adjuster that's what I'm getting out of this conversation
