@AerostarPilot6 ай бұрын
Not sure what you are referring to. I assume the takeoff at ALW. Keep in mind the Aerostar's flaps are hydraulic and have no preselect for any setting. The handle has three positions, up, neutral and down. For takeoff the were set to 20° with the flap handle in the neutral position. Think of neutral as OFF. After takeoff I put the flap handle in the up position. Think of this is ON for UP. Once they were up, I put the handle back in the neutral position.

How close were they from being over at max gross weight and aft cg with the two big guys in the back?
@AerostarPilot8 ай бұрын
Max TO weight on this aircraft is 6850#. Fully loaded with 110# baggage and 165g fuel our TO weight was 6784#. CG was in the forward portion of the envelope. 11111 has the battery in the nose rather than the standard tail cone location moving the empty CG even further forward. I could do another short video on this subject. Putting anything in the cabin moves the CG forward, burning fuel moves the CG forward, rear seats don't move the cg much at all. email me and I will send you the loading summary from Foreflight. I am usually fighting the forward CG issue, not aft CG.

Having a shielded wire (mic, phones and/or stereo wires with the shield as ground) from the intercom to each jack. Hope that helps.

questions: what was your take off weight and what was your range?
@aviatorsrealtor68414 күн бұрын
6735# TO weight. Full standard fuel 165 gal. Range will be dependent on winds of course. For a long range flight, an average of 40 ghp is pretty close. On a 0 wind day at FL250 running at 55% power i can get 740 ktm with VFR reserve. That flight would take 3:20 from wheels up to landing. The aux tank holds 44 usable, adding another hour and about 235 ktm. you can go a little slower and get more range if you want, but my bladder is only good for about 3.5 hours anyway.

Hey Eric, in this video, shortly after takeoff from Walla Walla you appear to have taken the flaps out and then put the flaps back in. Why? Were you flying the entire time with some flaps in?
@AerostarPilot Жыл бұрын
Hi Tony, The Aerostar flaps are hydraulic. The flap handle has 3 positions, up, neutral and down. On takeoff the flaps were set to 20°, after takeoff the handle is moved into the up position until they are retracted fully, then the flap handle is moved back to neutral. (center position).
@easttexan2933 Жыл бұрын
I didn't understand the flap position lever in the 1/2 way position the entire trip. Please explain.
@AerostarPilot Жыл бұрын
The flaps are 100% hydraulic. The flap handle has three positions, up, down and off which is the middle position. There are no preset stops. When you want to deploy 20° flaps, put the handle in the down position then back to the middle position when the position gauge reads 20°.

Mr. Reese, another thing I don't understand about TC engines is this (and I hope I can ask this so you will understand what I am asking)....I noticed that on T/O, you had 42" of MP and appx 2500rpm on the props. My question is this.....does one have to use 42" of MP to get those props to max rpm? If not, then why run the engines so hard. I mean if you can get max prop rpm with 30" of MP why push the power on up? Just a thought I had that I don't understand how that works. Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer.
@AerostarPilot Жыл бұрын
The engines in my plane are Lycoming TIO-540-U2A's which are rated at 350hp max continuous at 2500 rpm and 42" mp or 100%. When you reduce the throttle the MP will come down but the RPM will stay constant until you get down to around 10 or 12" MP. The max TO weight of this plane is 6850# which is where the SE performance numbers are based, ie at 100% If you take off with less power the performance is reduced along with the reduction in power. Same thing with a single engine aircraft, why would you not take off with full rated horse power? These engines were designed to operate continuously at 350hp or 100%
@easttexan2933 Жыл бұрын
@@AerostarPilot thanks for the info. I guess that's why I don't understand all I need to know about power and rpm. I mean 2500rpm is 2500rpm, right? I guess I don't understand how excessive power produces more thrust once 2500rpm is reached.

Just because there's seats doesn't mean one should place adults in them. How would this plane fly on takeoff with one engine, would it struggle at max gross weight or climb at 500ft?
@AerostarPilot11 ай бұрын
It is not the number of people, it is all aobut the gross weight.
@Mikinct11 ай бұрын
@@AerostarPilot I know it's gross weight. And it's "when both engines are producing power". When you have full fuel counter balancing Aft weight if adults in 3rd row, 3/4 through that flight there's far less weight counter balancing from wing tanks as during take off. Aft CG with 6 adults on one engine is a struggle. As an example, how many times have you loaded Full fuel, some luggage with 6 adults and feathered one engine to "experience" how your plane performs under that load configured before? Once, Twice, Never?
