If we remove our nostalgia goggles we'll realize that apart of the amazingly animated opening the animation of the original show, save for some exceptions, often ranges from acceptable to mediocre to terrible. That's why comic book pseudo realistic character designs fell out of flavor in the 90s. Is the same thing with He-Man or the Filmation shows, the designs look cool but the animation is static and uninspired, something that the BTAS creators knew pretty well and that's why their cartoonish stylized shows aged so well even to this day. I miss the details and all but creating smooth animation with that style just wouldn't look good with our current standards for animated ahows unless the budget and time needed to make the ahow skyrocketed untill it stops being profitable.

I think the problem with the stuff like x men and he man's animation was the budgeting of the animation. Keep in mind that cartoons then were used as a way to market toys to kids. This meant that cartoons were given a lower budget to deal with and explains that "psudeo realistic" design. They have the time and money now to better emulate the designs now. I think the new designs are good but don't improve nor emulate the designs compared to the original

Now the shading is softer and more mainstream to attract more people. Is it a bad thing? @zmatthew91 I think the problem that's being confused is the umbrella use of the word animation. The art of the older show is better as it was hand drawn, however the animation (the actual movement of said art) is better in '97 as it's more fluid and allows a bit more action when it comes to fights. That tends to be the case with computer generated art. The old animation is otherwise static. The new style, especially last night's episode, is more dynamic in it's action. That's more a mark of the times.

One thing is for sure, the voice actors of the original series, will never be surpassed. The voices are the soul of each character. Wolverine's voice was so iconic in the 97' original series. the new show has much better animation & its far smoother than the original series. if they kept the exact same details as the original, it would take much longer & a lot more money to produce an episode. plus, if you ignore the lighting, you can barely tell what outfit details were left out. the new show is a lot more like "magic" than the original. please learn a bit more about animation production before saying there's "no excuse". animators nowadays are constantly being abused for their work. anything to lighten their workload is good.

If Disney would digitally remaster the 90s series in 4K and then sell it they would make a bundle. It's vastly superior in every way when compared to X-Men Evolution and X-Men 97'. That Gen Z brain needs a dose of reality.

​​@@NaforaPatel i did watch all of 92 a few months and it's great , it's just not as great as people say , it simply had the benefit of being better written than other cartoons at the time , and for the art style it's pretty detailed which is impressive but it comes with the downside of clunky animation and sometimes even the still drawings look uneven , or maybe i just have a keen eye .

The order designs are better to me for the simple reason that an actual artist had to do more drawing for the 90's characters, versus the obvious cut and paste CGI we get today, and that's not just for X-Men that goes for all animation both Eastern and Western styles.

Plus the old show even for the time not just cuz its old now has abysmal animation. It's blurry choppy and hard to look at. When xmen crossed over with spider-man on his show they literally looked better then they did in they're show cuz they're show looks bad even compared to other shows back then like batman the animated series and spider-man the animated series

I'm not playing favortizim , but I don't like how ppl do remakes and take damn short cuts .stuff were done by hand . Now artist are lazy and or just cash grabs that's my issue.. this X-Men back then does have better animation. Same way compared to DBZ. Vs DBZ super .. as I said X-Men 97 does have pretty coloring and effect s but u can't tell me u can't see the robotic animation... There's no soul
