Can You Use G2 Legacy Characters in Reallusion's Cartoon Animator 5? What You Need to Know if You Do and Why You Probably Won't use Them (unless you want to make South Park Fan Animations).
Learn Cartoon Animator + Animation Resources: www.makeanimat...
Long before there were G3-SVG vector characters with full color management in Cartoon Animator 5 there was the original vector based G2 characters with Render Styles Color Management from the second version of the software, formerly known as CrazyTalk Animator 2.
Not only can you still use G2 characters in Cartoon Animator 5 (with all their full functionality), you can also still buy them in both the Reallusion Content Store and the Marketplace. There's a particularly could content pack called 'Buddy's World' based upon South Park character styles.
In this video I run through everything you need to know about using G2 characters with Reallusion's Cartoon Animator 5. It's a bit of a talkie video but I hope you find the information useful.

I'd love to learn to animate and would produce characters in Inkscape and import them into CA5. What puts me off is it seems such a time-consuming process. I'm assuming you can buy ready-made characters (sorry, I skimmed the video).

Cartoon Animator 5 comes with a whole library of ready made characters, scenes, and props that you can practice with and/or use in your own personal and commercial projects. As well Reallusion has both the Content Store and Marketplace where you can purchase hundreds of characters, props, and scenes. It's also worth exploring the Marketplace for free items as well as many top developers make sample characters etc. that you can download for free.

Hi David thanks for the videos they are very helpful and I learned a lot from them! I have a character I made in illustrator, but for some reason I can't rig the eyes and mouths so that it works in cartoon animator.. :/ Do you have a video about this? 🙏🙏

I'm going to assume your making G3 characters not G2 because G2's a whole other nightmare. With G3 characters the eyes and mouths have a very specific folder structure in the template that you have to stick to. Even a spelling mistake on the folder names will break the template. If you're trying to make a character template from scratch and not using an official template, you at least need to have an official template open so you can compare the folder structure to what you have. Mouth sprites are easy enough. The sprites can have any name you like but the folder structure must be exactly named as the official template. Eyes generally have three sprites, the pupil only, they eye sprite itself with eyelid but no pupils just eye white, and then a mask that is white and is the shape of whatever eye white is showing in the eye sprite. Again all these sprites MUST be in the exact folder structure used in the official templates. Note that if your main eye sprite is a closed eye then that eye will not need a pupil or eye white mask sprite (but the folders for them should still be present). Unfortunately I don't have a video on this but I do show how to make a G3-360 PSD head in one of my paid tutorials. The folder structure is very similar to SVG characters.

I have that character. It's actually a G1 character that gets converted to a single angle G2 character. You can only use G1, G2, or Some 3D motions with it. Any motion file intended for G3 characters will not work with it. See my previous video on G1 characters for more information.

One more question, if we have a G2 avatar in the sce4ne and we rotated it to 145 degrees but then we decide we do not want that kind of profile or pose but a frontward pose how can we change it back to that pose without having to load it again especially if it has an audio. Thanks.

The easiest way is to select the character and turn it to any of its angles using the left and right square bracket keys on the keyboard. Otherwise, you can open the 3D motion editor and turn the character with the angle slider just under the view window.

@@animlife If I open up the 3d motion editor you mean in CTA 4?, because as I said my avatar already has a voice clip. I know what you suggest is the best and I always do that but at times a scene does not go as I anticipated for a particular angle view, so that's why I need to change the angle the avatar is facing to improve the scene. If you say I can do those fixes in CTA 4 with the 3d motion editor then I'll look for it because I'm still learning how to use the software, let me know, thank you.

Yes, you can still open the 3D motion editor and edit the character's poses, even if it already has a voice clip attached.

Do you think it's better to use g2 characters in CTA 4?

It really depends more on your project and what you need the characters to do. I will say, if you need to build completely custom characters from scratch stay away from G2 characters. They're the hardest kind to rig because of the inbuilt multiple angles, and you need access to Adobe Flash to use the character template. However if you're happy to mash up existing G2 characters, they're a good choice.

Thanks for this great tutorial. I've always loved and preferred G2 characters because of their ease of use and great speed in changing colours of individual meshes. Is there a way to make the characters fat looking? Thank you so much 💗

@@anufunmi1 Sorry if this reply is 6 months too late, I genuinely, somehow missed your question. Anyway for G2 characters in the composer there is an Actor Proportions Icon that will give you 6 different presets for different body types. They don't necessarily look good but it's there. The other thing you can try is, still in the composer select any of the character's body parts, make sure the 'Angle Linked' box up the top properties bar has a check mark in it. Now you can resize the body parts using the selection box handles and that size will be changed in every angle of the character.
