Im shooting with an old Nikon d300s (around 12 mp) and i can confirm, 12mp are to good for the most photography works that u can do(only not for huge print, or crop for detail in sill life works). This a7s III is awesome!

Captivating video, thanks! No we cannot tell the difference. I might choose a 12 MP camera in 2022, after working with several models. It will definitely force me to frame correctly and get it right in the camera, but I am used to it, knowing that I just finished my 50th roll of 35mm film on my gorgeous rangefinder film camera. We've been exaggeratedly spoiled with high tech and still not satisfied. Going back to film photography (in parallel with digital) made me renew my views on photography and the gear. Cheers!

The thing I find perplexing is the 12MP images often look better AND sharper than the cameras with 4x the pixels. It’s like you are painting with light and the S3 gives you more colors on that palate which seems to compensate for the lack of razor detail. Like if you have a better highlight roll off then it looks better than a sharper image with more patchy appearing light. Just my novice take on it. I was really wanting the R5 for photography and video because on paper it’s the better hybrid, but when you see the A7S3 results a good percentage of them just look “more artful” and it creates this sensation of something captivating where the higher megapixel cameras look more ... clinical. I’m too much of a novice to know if it’s editing manipulation or if it’s real or how much of a handicap 12MP is irl.

From the samples, I have downloaded from dp review the 12mp sensor of the a7s3 seem to be very good with colour and find it far better than either a7iii and iv. It seems to hold together better and your right its a more film-like experience. AND my god there so clean! noise-wise. 320,000 that's right that's not a typo is like my fuji xt2's 12,800. Its insain. Download the samples from DP review. Its not a free lunch when it comes to high res, the images are harder to take as you need a steadier hand, every micro-movement is picked up, heck the shutter can shake the image. I actually think for the family man a7s make loads of sense, you're able to capture amazing photos creat great photo walls, still print somewhat big pictures if your entering comps BUT when that family man has a family event such as sons first football game you have a camera that can capture any sort of video you care to shake a stick at. Just be prepared to by glass as you need to crop/zoom in camera. it will make you a better photographer in the long run. And if you're cropping a lot then the argument could be made you're wasting your money as well which could be better spent on glass and or your doing something wrong or getting very lazy. id rather get crop right and use all those 42mp to the full potential out of it. Aso as a side note, the larger pixel cameras can be pretty noisy, I find the a7 iv can suffer from a lot of colour at higher IOS when it comes to printing images I find that 12mp is more than enough and enlargements can be done just fine and depending on the paper the difference isn't all that stark as the paper texture can eat up the differences. IE noise doesn't really print like its seen on screen so don't get to hung up on it.

I think the a7s3 is a great photo-camera! Like you mentioned... 12 MP is enough in almost all situations. I recognized most s3 pictures by the superior low-light performance. For photographing gigs and theaterstages where there is typically just a little bit of light... there is nothing coming close to the a7s3 right now. Add up the top grade view-finder, super fast CF-cards, superior autofocus and flip screen for the case you want yourself in the frame... I kept my 36 MP a7r for the case I need more MP but so far I haven't looked back at it.

Would A7Siii be an good enough B camera for photography to my A7iv for weddings? I’m a hybrid shooter in general but I really wanted to add Asiii for video but I would want it to also be a decent B cam fir photos … love the videos thank you
@MarcTaraz Жыл бұрын
Personally I wouldn’t rely on it as a B cam unless I was in an absolute emergency. While it takes great photos, my personal opinion is that 12 megapixels just isn’t enough for client critical work. If you were taking one or 2 and upscaling them, sure. But I myself feel like I would need more than 12 megapixels to feel safe when it comes to professional photography. I have no problem with it for personal work, or the odd landscape here or there. Again, these are just my personal thoughts.

Enough? FUCK YEAH Its enough for the vast majority to print with, native print size at 300dpi is 35cm long pretty big, however, Lightroom has awesome algorithms for enlarging allowing us to easily get a 75cm picture out of 12mp shot. Whats that a native 35mp camera shot. And I don't know about you but how often do you print that large not even my wedding clients will print up to 80cm wide LOL most 4x5 perhaps 10x8 I have probably one-shot that big on my wall at 80cm wide. lets put this into perspective a 60mp shot native printed is a over a meter long!!! Every one wanking over high res shots for sony a7r4 or other, to print them no bigger than A3 what a waste of fucking money. This camera is the best in a7 line by far, it would suit the family man down to ground for years to come it would be a great investment, great video with loads of clean dynamic range and at a flick of a switch taking pictures of there son/daughters football match at 10fps shutter with a 2-300 deep buffer of photos to capture that perfect moment all in raw I might add. 3 years ago this would have been an amazing for sports photography and there really isn't much that would better it now. I don't know where this notion that this camera pictures are only good for society is coming from, its the biggest BS statement I've heard. If you're posting to social heck you could do that with 1mp camera This camera is beyond capable. people get a fucking clue

Points about cropping our valid but you can do it the other way as well, eg with zoom lenses while on the street and pay more attention to framing. 99% of us don't print over 30 inches. And i think we notice things like colour and comp before we notice anything about sharpness. Id take clean images any day over high res images

For social media you dont even need 12mp. With 6mp images you still have more than enough resolution to look at an image on an average sized screen or a phone....That said, I would go for a higher megapixel camera for archival reasons. Down the line if you want to print some of your images its nice to have the option to print really large. With a sharp 12mp photo you can probably print 24 x 36 max and get a respectable looking image, but with a 42mp camera you can get nice prints at 40 x 60.
@cinialvespow10543 жыл бұрын
is 40 * 60 the max on 42mp? It's bigger but that does not sound thAAAAt much bigger to me. i wanna get the a7siii but im concerned with the archival idea, maybe in 5 years time i would have wished past me shot in higheer resolution so i can enjoy the images better in the future but I dunno how true that is.
@waawaaweewaa20453 жыл бұрын
@@cinialvespow1054 a7siii has a sensor geared towards optimal video quality. The photos will look awesome as well because of low light capability, but at the cost of having less resolution, so smaller prints. This article has a chart mapping out what type of print quality you can expect based on print size and megapixels. It seems pretty accurate based on prints ive seen in person with certain megapixel cameras. www.naturettl.com/megapixels-how-big-can-you-really-print-a-photo/
@gaza45433 жыл бұрын
@@cinialvespow1054 no, its around a meter long you could comfortably print at for forearm viewing distances, the 12mp image is around 75-80cm for forearm viewing distances. don't know about you but don't print at 70cm-80cm all that often and certainly not a 100-120cm. If you want a high res shot out of a 12mp camera of a landscape just take a few and stitch them together.

@@MarcTaraz Awesome to hear, Marc!
