You can burn anything in a multi-fuel stove, ... until it stops burning and is all crapped up (DDDD) ! Options with turpentine is using acetone (model glue smell) that cuts the shellacs, tars, oils into smaller oil droplets. Also helps aerosolize the heavier fuel for higher (and cleaner) heating. Same for using a 16 drops of acetone in the fuel mix (16 ounce volume, 1 drop per ounce volume), and it will clean out the entire system (almost too clean, will chew on rubber pieces !). Otherwise, could use methanol (wood alcohol) with same options, and also pulls out any water in the system. Can also use isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) for mixing or cleaning uses.

This is also what I do very often when burning kerosene. I mix in a tiny amount of white gas. The shorter carbon chains will lower the average molecule length. The result is that the yellow flame tips are taken away and the the flames are completely blue.

can you get turpentine gas to replace liquidified gas?
@jiujitsu20002 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't do that. It's a dirty fuel

What if you purify it and remove all those toxic gases that bring smoke
@AOKUrbanHomestead16 жыл бұрын
Yeah, just someone can doesn't mean they should. I would think it a little toxic. Thanks for another good video
@DannyWalker19496 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the Turpentine is dirty, sure enough. I wouldn't want to use it either unless it was a last resort thing.

The black smoke reminded me of the days when people had coal fired furnaces and the soot would be everywhere. Thanks for sharing

Prime with alcohol and you don't get that soot The additives in car gas or diesel fuel will definitely eat your seals (thank you California) if you leave fuel in the bottle, if you use car gas after your trip put the left over in your car and clean your pump and or fuel cap with kerosine or Coleman gas (no additives) & let dry if your really worried change your seals with Viton or Nitrile seals (definitely needed if you try Alcohol as your main fuel)

A pretty good experiment indeed brother. But I would only use this as a last resort. If you let turpentine sit you could have some varnishing or gumming of the internal components in your pump I would suspect. But it is good to know that you could use it if that was all that you had. Thanks for sharing my friend.

I guess if I needed a signal fire- with literally nothing else to burn, I'll stay warm.

For priming use alcohol, it’s cleaner

What about Mineral spirits? Would it be cleaner than Turpentine? This would be useful in an emergency.

I have the same question

Mineral spirits are very similar to kerosene. Theoretically it should work.

Could you use VM&P Naptha as a fuel in this stove? Seems like it should be chemically similar to Coleman fuel, though slightly different...
@rickwheeler9788 ай бұрын
Very interesting. What if you carified it with bentonite clay and/or gelatin to remove the impurities first? Cutting it back with other fuels might also help but clarifying it first should provide a cleaner and less sooty flame. Also, the Romans added a pinch of salt to most of thier fuels for a more pleasant and clean burning yellowish flame for soft lighting purposes without any problems. They didn't use jetboils though

Very informative in this one brother. Wow. Now this is a survival scenario usage to keep cooking or disinfecting water. But a definite outdoor usage. Main question is is there a very strong osier when burning!!!!!!!
@jd771311 ай бұрын
Polaris is not as efficient burning heavy fuel. I run turpentine in my Nova with no problem. Nevey use heavy fuel for priming, use alcohol instead then you have no problems.

You can use treps or white spirit for fuel. However it will smoke a lot so do it outside. Its not so clean as metholated spirit or ethenol. They are oil based terpentine and withe spirit. Pump should be okay as its in liquid form. Just flush it out with ethenol or methelated spirit.

Thanks for the review, it's just something. I just thought about it and you already did it! Super! I would be very grateful if you boiled a 1 liter pot of water and noted the time during which this happened. And also showed how to wash this pot of soot, how easy or hard it is. Thanks.

The silencer you use sits pretty low in the stove according to it's manufacturer, indeed they have one that sits higher. Do you find that it makes any actual difference in usability, efficiency, wind mitigation and heat dispersion? Coz I actually like it sitting recessed in, visually, the way you have it set up.
@au46tro93 жыл бұрын
it will be no soot if you preheat with alcohol(denaturized). I use turpentine with no problem what so ever. I get a clear blue flame

So if you needed to burn dirty fuel like diesel, if you had a little pure white gas or alcohol to get the priming done does diesel then still burn dirty and leave soot all over the stove?
