I also watched another video that the less powerful nVidia card could be used as discrete PhysX card for gaming. For games that support nVidia PhysX, it could results in up to 20% more frame rate.

You should try running reshade or lossless scaling on one while the other runs the game and see if it increases performance at all
@FirstEyeView9992 ай бұрын
I did the same thing with an Arc a380. I use the Intel gpu for hardware encoding only, however, you don't need to plug a monitor into the encoding GPU for it to do so. Your system should recognize the card so as long as you have the appropriate drivers downloaded. Your PC will recognize the card being plugged into one of the PCIe slots. I'm running a Radeon 6900XT as my main card and the arc a380 low profile as my hardware encoder. So I get better performance than a 7800XT about the same as a 7900GRE and I now have AV1 for only $100 vs. a $500 side grade or a$700-1000 upgrade. It's a win win on my behalf.
@AMaineiac2 ай бұрын
@FirstEyeView999 so does this mean I can plug in up to 8 monitors (potentially) and assign the GPUs to work with specific ones? As long as the GPUs can handle it, of course.
@FirstEyeView9992 ай бұрын
@@AMaineiacAs long as your main gpu can handle it. The encoding card is dedicated to just that. So there's no need to plug in, however, if you just wanted to do so it won't hurt , however, that's more strain and tasks placed on your encoding GPU now.

Very nice. SLI / Cross Fire support faded due to the performance advancement of newer hardware and the fact that the developers didn't want to make the investment for using multiple gpu's especially using 1 of each brand together like you were showing.

Great video. Would it be possible to run different video games on each card? I can't seem to run Biohazard 2 SourceNext on my 6800xt, but I'm told it works on the 1650, which I have one laying around. Could I install it and choose the GPU it runs on?

I don't see why not. Plug them both in, update the GPU software in the Device Manager (so it has the lates and greatest) and give it a go. Worst case it does not work and you can take the cards out.

Hey dude! You can do this and if both GPU’s are on the lower to medium end you can usually see an uplift in FPS performance but may also see higher frame times and latency because of the additional processing back and forth through the PCIE lanes that is happening. Not knocking it by any means and if it works for you and makes things better I say keep it that way. I tried with my 3080ti as my main and an Intel GPU as my streaming card and my FPS took less of a hit than otherwise would have if I was using NVenc but I did notice my frame times were up and so was my input and I guess overall system latency though it is hard to really measure that stuff without proper tools that I don’t have. It just *felt* slow to respond and I switched it back just to text and keeping it NVenc worked best for me. Cheers!

why should it not work? cant see any reason. windows will use the card in the slot closest to the cpu as main. did this back in the 90s with a tvtuner card, a radeon :)
@AMaineiac3 ай бұрын
@reyalPRON Windows 7 would not let you use two different GPUs. I didn't see any reason why it wouldn't work, so I figured I would give it a try. Some people want to try new things but don't want to risk bricking their rig. I don't mind experimenting because I know how to fix broken computers because I do it all the time.
@reyalPRON3 ай бұрын
@@AMaineiac yes it will. i use an intel iris and a radeon mobile on this very laptop. windows7 bootcamp. you can just run the installer for the card in the mainslot first. then manually install or lowlevel install the secondary. whats crap is that is a pita to setup multi monitor in macos. easy in windows 7 though. bricking rigs? how? its software. not hardware. i dont get this. seems like your level of understanding and use of terminology is not on par. good luck sir. im out.
@AMaineiac3 ай бұрын
@reyalPRON you are aware that some software and hardware can corrupt an OS. Also, some hardware can draw power from a motherboard (like a CPU cooler, GPU with no power pins (like I use) or network cards. These can draw a lot of power at once and can surge a motherboard. Once that mobo surges and fries part of it, the board can be ruined. The fact you questioned, attempted to insult, and are running off proves you have no idea what you are saying or playing dumb. You are also speaking about a laptop. If you think a laptop and desktop computer are the same and work the same, you have no idea what you are talking about. There is a huge difference between installing a GPU into a PCIe slot and probably using an external GPU connected through HDMI, USB, or USB-C port.
