@@linkofvev my least favorite aspect of the "meta" is FW units. Often OP and make sense for older armies like the way the Demicharion (sp?) plugs some gaps in the Tyranids list, but when there are things like Contemptors (or other FW dreads) that any marine army can use, and you see them everywhere... ugh, so un-fluffy and lore-breaking... Then again, I haven't played in years, I just keep up with things and do list building for fun... but I notice trends like this because they're so in your face.

The two Orlando lists (Siegler and Lennon) were tailored to the gw terrain set up with the 4 large square obscuring ruins being difficult for vehicles to move or get sight lines as the infantry can just hop into the ruins

I have recently seen some interesting list for Necrons, almost full Canoptek Scarab Swarms + Wraiths + Technomancer and Chronomancer on obsec dynasty, + little bit of shooting, absurdly durable quick obsec spam all over the board (Outriders detachment)

I think maxing wraiths and lychguard over warriors will be our direction of travel. Ive personally ditched warriors in favour of immortals. A quite robust second wave if you can get those wraiths harassing and disrupting the opponent's plans.

It irks me seeing all the Necrons players bring big blobs of warriors only to get blasted off the table over and over again, it doesn’t work, forget reanimate . Vehicle are the way to go as they have a 5 invulnerable and heals one wound every turn. Plus they pack enough firepower to blow a lot off the table. The early Necrons adapters gravitated towards warrior blobs, it didn’t work and then abandon the faction all together without giving it a second look.

Tesseract arks with double Gauss are expensive but necessary for a vehicle build. Currently I'm running 3x DDays, 3x Tessie Arks, 2x ghost arks with 2x 10 reaper warriors, 2x Technomancers, 9 or so scarabs. You can swap in a Triarch Stalker instead of the scarabs, but I prefer the bugs. I run it patrol/spearhead, patrol is obsec/pregame move, spearhead is obsec/Interplanetary Invaders.

My list did well at Orlando unfortunately its general didn't have much experience with 9th edition. I played against two Admech armies and a Deathguard on day one, and had to withdraw from day two being an old man with diabetes to have my leg amputated (jk). I did manage to raise myself up 2000 spots on the ITC 40k rankings, and enjoyed myself thoroughly. My list? 64 Astartes Infantry models with 17 Meltas and 6 Multimeltas, two librarians, a chaplain and a primaris apothecary. Nobody could come into my deployment area but I was too slow to get over to theirs either.

The evolution of Ad Mech lists is why playing against them more casually is an absolute nightmare. Initially, they had massive blobs of normal skitarii being buffed and the balistarae. Then players put in the flyers. Then those to get nerfed bit. Don't worry you can now go for Mars or Metalica and veterans; seriously 5+ invuln on all models even when most are 10 points. Sicarians, ruststalkers, serberys raiders and Pteraxii are also v good. Most of their army is just extremely good and points efficient.

I will always look down on players that build lists they find online. People who try to order the newest Jon Lennon. Would my list beat these? No idea. I would do my best to take all objectives turn 1 and try to live long enough to out primary them. But win or lose its a list born from my goopy brain, and I'm kinda proud of that. Built something that can, at the very least, surprise the heck out of you.

My space marines lost to an old codex ork army which was using only 9 buggies. 18 is obsessive, and not even the most die hard ork collector will have 9 of the same kind. Space marines are in the meta because it is a fun army to play, has nice models that people want to collect and is easy to paint. And can tailored to fit a play style of your choice. I think sisters of battle fits this description too. But not many people have sisters because it wasnt a popular army before the new book. No one wants to collect admech because they want to field 100+ infantry models. And while the infantry are still strong, the changes dissuade huge hordes. 50 troop infantry is in the target area for an average collection.

I find that 9th edition is more about how well you play the mission while getting a little lucky that some of your things either survive insane fire or drain large amounts of attention from your opponent

I would disagree. I fought ansgt thousand sons who are basically equally powerful with psychic and I found that while having a 5 up auto stop for powers is nice... but its HARD for it to get off most of the time. Your likely to stop a couple here and there but grey knights psychic phase now is very deadly. And their melee just slaps. The only thing I see maybe could give you a hard time is if sister spams multi melta because those could blow your marines away. But even then if your smart with deep strikes and locking them into combat its bye bye sister hahah

I believe GK are currently best anti-meta army! Seriously, and sisters are perfect target for them. Yes, they can deny many powers (unless you have undeniable warlord trait) but frankly GK are now more melee and short range shooting army IMO. They lost +1 to cast anyway, and gain MUCH power in melee. Always take unit with falchions vs hordes, and against sisters, you’ll straight up butcher them, as they have 1 wound, T3 and 3+ save. And sacristians? Well, your 5 man unit will pump out 10 MW on average, with proper tide. And this makes them great both vs elites (as usually MW are) and against hordes (ast they spill over!) and middle type like SM? Well, your swords are +1S, ap-3 and 2dmg, so bye bye. Drukhari are dead the moment you look on them (no psychic protection, mass shooting, wounding on 3+, and deadly melee with MW ignoring their inv) so are skitarii - start with tide of shadows, then go full on psychic/mortal wounds and ignore all Lucius defense. Death guard? Tough, but again, with hammerhand you’ll drown them in mortal wounds (shame their 5+++ is gone) and you can block their key powers (miasma). And orks, well, are also perfect target for falchions (low save, one wound) and mortal wounds. Single psyker probably, so easy target, and you have almost as many attacks as they have (actually, with falchions and banner you have MORE!) and MW spill over so you can cut down whole mobs of orks. Hammerhand helps great with T5 and NDKs will take care of their vehicles. Against DMG reduction (DG, Ramshackle) you have psychic power for +1dmg on key targets (used it on Magnus, and killed him in one shooting phase!) so you can really put hurt on things. And shooting! Man! 10 man strike out of deepstrike will have 40 shots, can have +1 to hit, use psybolt for -1ap and autowounding on 6s. Great times! Even your 5man squads will pump 20 shots of bolted fire and again, for 1CP they’ll enjoy psybolt ammunition. Gate of infinity and teleport strat gives you fantastic board control (and you have free deepstrike on most of army) and noble death for 20poits allows you to get one turn of obsec aura in key moment. Or double obsec even. You really want to take that objective? Go for it! Win for points. And kills. No witnesses. Also, sanctuary here, warding zone there, -1to hit, +1 to save, and Draigo… this codex doesn’t have many flashy combos (although there are some wicked ones…) but is so lethal at the core… loving it so far. I’d say it’s the same tier as orks, maybe deathguard.

You're right, it's not a good match-up. 33% chance to be denied every power is brutal, and every unit can do it. I just played my first game against GK with Sororitas... 44:93 in favor of the ladies. Sororitas are able to trade more efficiently, with greater speed while handing out obsec as needed. I rolled hot and denied over half his powers on turn 2, while rolling odds on denies the rest of the match. It was a total game changer. I'm not suggesting it would be the same outcome for every game, or every player, but the potential to be denied constantly is there and can be detrimental to a GK army. Most factions simply won't have that advantage.

My gut reaction says that the only one I might do well against (as custodes) is the ork list, but that's a stretch. The admech and death guard lists have too much MW output, Sisters move too quick, and Drukhari are Drukhari. Atleast vs orks I might be able to snipe their infantry and characters, then try to hold objectives, but that's a big might.

I think you could beat orks with knights :) i play chaos knights 1 megaera 2 rampagers (the combat ones) and 5 wardogs with thermal lance and cleaver (3 meltas and 2 stubbers on the roof) it's fast and hits hard it has a lot of melta shots and is a blender in melee beeing an iconoclast house so yeah they may have a lot of dakka but everything my knights would touch would just disappear :) That beeing said there is very little i could do against the other 4 lists...i also play csm..and i would have even less chance ahhaha

I believe in deathwatch’s ability to horde clear and play the objective, I just think ad mech and sisters have too much damage across too many models for me to reliably deal with before I get stomped

I think the question is tricky. Could I beat Richard Siegler's list? Well, if it is piloted by Richard Siegler, no. If piloted by someone else, it depends on how good or bad that player is. Lists matter, but the player matters more. That is why John Lennon wins tournaments with all kind of factions, and I wouldn't be able to place top 2 in Orlando even if I can copy his exact Sisters of Battle list as I own all those models.

Get the knight in combat n he has a 6+ save against the ruststalkers and infiltrators then add in the multiple +1 attacks strats and you watch Even titans fall

If they get the charge u wont get to fight as charges fight first n to my knowledge knights can't handle that plus dragoons are nasty post nerf i can get a lot of strength 8 ap2 2 damage attacks on the knight wounding on 4+ yes in reality if the amount of charges doesn't work then the knight would be crippled at least to second profile to fight bk but then u have the rest to deal with

The tournament it won had a very specific terrain set up that would've been very difficult for the Knights player to do much of anything effective. There were 4 large square ruins around the middle of the board that all the infantry would be able to hide in and only come out when they wanted.

I might be missing something but every Sisters list that I see has a unit of 5 Seraphim with 4 handflamers. But on the Seraphim datasheet itself it states that only 2 of the models can equip flamers. Whats going on here?

I think it's because every model that can equip handflamers is equipped with 2 of them. so 2 models= 4 handflamers

technically you cant take the daemon prince and a lord of contagion in the same detachment. both contain "Lord of the Death Guard" keyword

The codex creep this edition is really saddening. SMs + Necs being the poster boys of the edition and then being swatted by later books means a lot of new players will tune out of the meta because they are going to have to move away from the good-value armies towards armies that slightly suspiciously require a larger financial investment...

@@adamlouis3725 I'm sorry, so what you are telling the community that it is ok to pick an army, invest s lot of time, paint and money as a new player only to find out that it's not viable unless you dump more money and start over with a new army? Anyone else ok with zero game balance based on pay to win? FYI, the lists you see at big tournaments represent a very small portion of the community. They know 40k is not balanced and its about picking the strongest army and looking for ways to break or bend rules. They often have access to a lot of cash and use commissioners to build and paint their armies. 40k is not a competitive game, but I've never seen it this consistentlly bad.. If you play at your local meta your mileage will vary. I advise not play at the local GW Stores as they play too loosely with the rules. I was really surprised how many players and employees did not know the rules.

With my Custodes, i could possibility beat anything but the Admech List, if someone is running them as skilled as myself (which is not that good 😊 …) That one is just too efficient, too resilient and does too much damage. Basically to say that Admech imho is leagues above the rest of armies atm, and that i can’t compete with these tournament players, no matter what they play
