As a member of the alphabet soup group, Pride was only ever meant to be about being comfortable and able to be OURSELVES without discrimination or persecution. I don't need your support. Your apathy and minding your own business is enough. Forcing people to support a message they don't agree with is the exact OPPOSITE of what Pride is all about.

That and it's weird to explicitly tell straights that there is no place for them in pride, while demanding that especially straights display "allyship". It's the polarizing attitude that gets me rabidly opposed. I don't particularly mind who does whom, so long as everyone is happy and consents. Tbh when I was young the couple that most displayed a strong loving bond were my uncles, and there was nothing odd about it. They still are one of the most loving couples I know. I do mind hostile attitudes. That's the bunch of faeries for whom I bring a can of deodorant and a lighter.

@@sneezyfido no one said that there is no room for straight cis people in pride, unless they are going there to cause trouble in which place they will likely have to deal with police. LGBTQ people are quite welcoming to all people. They don’t tend to discriminate and they don’t tend to try to push anything on anyone. All they want is the right to be themselves as they were born and celebrate their fight for civil rights.

Not only is pride political, but it’s also capitalist as well. Rainbow people (such as myself) buy goods and services the other 11 months out of the year. Why do we need special pandering to for one particular month? It’s not like people do the same thing for Black History Month. (I’m also Black). Or Asian American pacific islander month. Why don’t other races and groups of people get pandered to in such a capitalistic manner for their month? It’s also rude to think that just because you’re not straight then you live in this Candyland of rainbow themed merch. A lot of people just have a little flag at their desk that they put in their cupholder and have normal decor like everyone else.

Employers have pretty substantial leeway in determining what their employees must wear and how they must conduct themselves as a condition of employment. You DON'T have to do it, but your employer DOESN'T have to continue to employee you, particularly if you live in a "right to work" state where they can basically terminate your employment for any reason or no reason at all. You could, of course, always try the "my religion" strategy, which might or might not work but which would almost certainly be a long, expensive court battle.

You have a very good point. The way I see it is if I want to keep my job, I must oblige. And if I don’t want to oblige then I can start the process of changing jobs which will take about 6 months if you are in a professional role. This is all because I’m not rich enough to be out of work for any amount of time.

Every retail store I've worked for has simply made it a "Hey, if you want to wear one, you're allowed." Only thing my retail employers have ever enforced has been uniform requirement. Actually, I just got back from work where this past week has been themed days. Zero people have had their job security threatened for not participating. People who are supporting pride - have their ways to support it while being uniform compliant. I would think if my company wasn't so strict on the uniform, just reading the memos passed around... I honestly am surprised they haven't tried to figure out a way to make it a requirement. I'm honestly assuming the above scenario is exactly why it's not.

A a practicing gold-star gay, no, I will not be wearing your rainbow tiara. This is not really about pride. It's about the ethical responsibilities of employers. Would not be any different from forcing me to wear a MAGA hat, which I am also not going to do. That being said, I have never heard of any gay-owned business that has required things like this. This situation is hypothetical for a really good reason; It doesn't happen in real life.

Never seen this. Maybe it’s specific to a certain city, state, province or country? Where I’m from, it’s all about letting people be themselves and not forcing anything on anyone. Employers ask if the employees could participate but never force it and never reprimand them for saying no… though, generally, they don’t do that anyway and it’s usually the employees who ask if it’s ok to wear pride things to work.
