@QuestingBeast I have a question - Is there a Basic Revised OSR?

THE WICKERPEDIA!!!! Made me laugh way too much. Also, this exactly the kind of thing I dream of making someday. So beautiful. So well-designed. Thanks for brining it to my attention.

Great review! Are you planning a best of 2024 video? Those are really excellent resources to catch up on everything I miss
@samdoorley6101Ай бұрын
There have been so many great Fae-adjacent products for the OSR lately. Another outstanding sort of Fairy pocket dimension supplements is The Valley of Flowers, which is like a Arthurian Fairyland mashup.
@victoriachudinov9580Ай бұрын
Oh this is perfect. I am just setting an Arthurian adjacent campaign

I like this trend of making adventure books more usable at the table, but I do feel like they become less engaging reading for the GM. It's like I've got someone's notes from the lecture instead of a tape of the lecture itself. Maybe the next evolution of adventure writing will be to have two books: one that's more readable, so the GM can be drawn in and inspired, and one that's for use at the table, with the just-the-facts approach, to help you cram for the session and easily reference information.

Thanks for this great review, Ben! You've got the name of the hamlet right ;)

Do these adventures also work with DCC, did anyone give it a try?
@TaberIVАй бұрын
I think you'd have no problem using OSE adventure with DCC. You might want to give monsters some additional hit points, but you could probably do the conversion on the fly if you're really familiar with DCC.
@PetesDracolichАй бұрын
Intermediary Mund is a great example for OSE/ DCC conversion. You can pick it up @ Exalted Funeral, but be warned, it’s not for the squeamish! Super dark.
@PsychesGamingAddictionАй бұрын
@@TaberIV Lovely to hear! I don't (yet) have experience with OSE/OSR adventures nor with DCC other than running 1 funnel (IT WAS AWESOME) Heck knowing what creatures to use for which level is something I have yet to grasp, thank god for pre written modules! But I am glad that OSE/OSR Adventures are easy to use with DCC, hopefully I can also retrofit my 5e adventures I still have on my shelf so that I am not forced to run them in *throws up* 5e.

Really like the design and layout - and are those maps by Dyson? The story really comes alive in the clever and fresh details. It looks like those are fairly flushed out, with some fun surprises, too. Was not aware of this publisher, but is seems like it would pair well with any OSR. Thanks for the insight and review.

I hope you cover Andrew Kolb's Wonderland at some point!

I second that! ☝🏼

I picked it up and think it's really neat! Andrew was on the Ship of the Dead podcast and talked about it with a bit of an overview

Another great looking module. It's funny i made a similar but less complex adventure like this years ago.

I saw mothership recently released a new toolkit called wages of sin. Will you be potentially reviewing it? Really enjoyed your review of the deluxe mothership starter

Bilibin's illustration looks very out of place in this to me on page 5 due to having it so strongly associated with Russian folk tales. And the other pictures are an eclectic mess. I would have probably liked there being less pictures than this cavalcade. Interesting book though otherwise.

How can you review a game you haven’t played? This is an overview or “first look”, not a review.
@drillerdev4624Ай бұрын
Like most rpg reviews, nowadays I think an experienced DM would be able to gauge an adventure's worth with a good read before trying it It may be way harder when it's a whole system
@GrantBreesАй бұрын
@@drillerdev4624 For sure, completely agree, you can get some idea. But really you have no idea how it's going to play until you actually play it. I just think it's misleading to say or imply that it's a review, and Ben took that word out of the title now so it's all good in my book.
@doctoryagle7746Ай бұрын
@@GrantBreesI’d also argue that playing through with your own group is a HORRIBLE way to judge a module. Groups vary incredibly widely, and a sample size of 1 is possibly worse than a general read through of a module and pointing out general design choices.
@GrantBreesАй бұрын
@@doctoryagle7746 I just think the play itself is not truly judge-able until you actually play. I'm definitely not saying you shouldn't make educated guesses and try to buy/play quality things. But if you're a creator and haven't played it, don't say it's a "review" until you do. Can you imagine a board game creator cracking the box and talking about the components, art, & lore without having played the game?
@doctoryagle7746Ай бұрын
@@GrantBrees I get what you're saying, I just don't think playing a module has any weight unless you're reviewing extensive playtesting across multiple groups. If I judged content based off a play through with my group, I would come back with the impression "puzzles are bad" because my players suck at puzzles.
