DNA nor ancestry are actually the same as ethnic group, which is largely a cultural social construct. Still fun stuff. I have some KhoiSan DNA, about a dozen slaves from asia and africa, next to my mostly rather wide European mix of origens. Does make me feel connected.
@ConnortheCanaanite Жыл бұрын
@@NicholBrummer That’s technically true but there’s definitely an ethnic element to genetic origins. Hence why we can at least moderately distinguish between these various population groups. I have European ancestry as well within my genetics, mostly paternally and maternally quite a bit of my genetics have a Levantine or North African origin. I also have some genetic proximities to Spanish and North Italians, when it comes to Spain or Iberia, it has seen many different civilizations, ethnic groups and populations reside within it. As it has been under control of Basque, Phoenician/Punics or Canaanite populations, Gothic, Jewish, Muslim and much more has contributed to the population that makes up modern Spain. As it was also once the Al-Andalus Caliphate and had many conversions to Christianity from the time of Visigothic control and the Reconquista. These lead to many of these converted populations moving, changing their names and falsifying baptismal records to avoid being considered a Converso or Crypto. My European genetics tend to be a mix or close to that of Irish, Spanish, Swedes, North Italians and Ukrainians or Russian Finno-Ugric groups. Then the ‘MENA’ genetics tend to be closest to aforementioned Moroccan Jews and other groups listed or even Palestinians, Egyptians and Moroccans in general. So that makes it difficult to distinguish one ethnic group over the other. In the US, people often assume or think I’m Hispanic actually but they’re not as familiar with ‘MENA’ ethnic groups as they are with Hispanics due to proximity.

Fun fact is that the Roman Empire changed the name of Judea to Palestine at 2nd century CE after quashing the Bar Kochva Jewish rebellion. It is mostly a consensus that it was done in order to punish the Jews but not sure that the reason for the name change is documented as the fact that the name was changed.

Thanks for the video. This pretty much is what I think most historians expected. Its generally agreed that the Phillistines were called the Peleset by the Egyptians. The Egyptians permitted these sea peoples to settle in what is now Israel to be a buffer to the canaanites. The phillistines were Aegian/Greek, but intermarried with canaanites. From what I have read, most Palestinians today are a mix of canaanite and arab. The Israelis have as much canaanite ancestry as the Palestinians, roughly 50%, but they lack the Arab contribution and have more Greek, Roman Persian and other European dna mixed in. That mixing mainly happened long ago.

Which is all BS from what I know about the real Jewish people from ancient time! They’re definitely aren’t white people like the Jews that are occupying Palestine today! Anyhow the emperor was telling about that, to find something either Moses had and hid or something cannonites had and was lost or hidden.. as in how big were the people cannonites enslaved or what type of research chemistry did they know of,..,... I came across that type of thinking learning that gemstones can be remade when broken, sort of like gold melted and like glass but LABORATORIES AND BACK THEM THEY COULD TELL IF IT WAS *HEATED*, you buy gemstones that are remade like that but some Don't think of those as natural BUT SOME DO AND THEY SAY THEY HAVE DONE THAT IN ANCIENT TIMES HOW CAN OUR CURRENT LABORATORIES ACT AS IF THOSE ANCIENT STONES ARE WORTH LESS (THEY ARE NOT TOTALLY WORTHLESS JUST WORTH LESS THEN NATURAL STONES)

The problem with relying strictly on genetics as proof of identity is that it doesn’t truly explain history, it just identifies someone was there. Razib is 100% correct in his genetic analysis of modern Middle Eastern populations but he’s working from an incomplete understanding of chronological Middle Eastern and biblical history. For example; if 4,000 years from now, future geneticists used genetic analyses and artefacts to define ancient American history and nobody explained the Americas were colonized by European people starting in the 16th century-4,000 years from now people would believe the indigenous populations of America were primarily Indo-European due to a dominant Indo-European genetic component and artefacts such as Mount Rushmore, the Statue of Liberty, Christian iconography and the Christ Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro. We all know that’s a completely erroneous ethnic history but the genetic analysis and archeological record would remain 100% scientifically correct in establishing a false narrative of an indigenous-European America. Why? Because the history of the Americas being colonized was forgotten or purposely removed to establish a revisionist history. That’s the same problem with using genetics to explain who the Canaanites were-there’s important aspects of Middle Eastern history being neglected and unexplained to formulate that modern day middle Easterners who are genetically Anatolian and Eurasian are Hamitic Canaanites?!?! Ham Also Kham. Literal meanings are hot, burnt or dark (father of the Negroid races - Hamites). He was the progenitor of: Genesis 10:6 KJV [6] And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan. So the first-hand biblical account says the Canaanites were a race of black people (black isn’t a race) but modern geneticists found they were primarily Indo-European?!?! So which should we believe; the first-hand accounts of people who interacted with the Canaanites for thousands of years or modern day geneticists who haven’t and never knew them. Because according to his genetic findings, the Canaanites are more likely descendants of Noah’s son Japheth rather than Ham. Japheth Also Diphath. Literal meanings are opened, enlarged, fair or light (father of the Caucasoid/Indo-Europoid, Indo-European, Indo-Germanic, or Indo-Aryan races - Japhethites). Japheth is the progenitor of seven sons: Genesis 10:2 KJV [2] The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. My point is; biblical history chronicles that the descendants of Japheth (Indo-Europeans/Eurasians also known as the families of the north) invading, slaughtering, colonizing and pushing out most, if not all of the indigenous populations of the ancient Middle East and culturally appropriating them. Jeremiah 25:9 KJV [9] Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the Lord, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations. Perpetual desolation means permanently removed. So how can modern day Middle Easterners be genetically affiliated with people that they pushed out and weren’t genetically related to at all? It’s the same thing as the “native Euro-American” example I gave above-the Canaanites were not ethnically Indo-European or of a modern Arab affinity, they were a race of black people.

And it's not just me, most Lebanese people have a high amount of European admixture, that's why we look the way we do. There's a deep ancestral connection there. In addition, Razib assumes without question that the Phoenicians were merely Canaanites. This is not true. They were Canaanites mixed with other peoples (Sardinians among others). What nonsense, Israelites are not Canaanites, as he claims. Abraham came from Ukresh in the north of Mesopotamia, and probably had haplogroup T. From Abraham to Isaac there was a mutation which created haplogroup R1b. R1b predecessor haplogroups are often found in Jordan which do not go back to V88. Israelites had R1b, i.e. a completely different haplogroup to Canaanites with J1 or J2. The earth is also not older than 6000 years. This can be calculated using the biblical dates. The Radokrabon method does not work. Science knows this, but they use it to support the evolutionary ideology. Because it gives us incredibly high dates. And in the end, all talk of the Ice Age, Stone Age and Bronze Age is also part of the evolutionary ideology. DNA, especially Y-DNA, was initially much more reactive after Noah landed on Ararat. There were significantly more genetic mutations and new haplogroups in the first generations after the flood...

They were both Semitic peoples. Canaanites were a Western tribe, whereas Amorites were a Northwestern one, more closely related to Arameans. The Bible in Genesis 10:15-19 names the Canaanite nations, and Amorites are among them. Perhaps the Canaanite Hittites were a separate nation from the Anatolian Hittites, merely sharing a similar name. In Anatolia they were actually called "Hattites").

I think the Hebrews applied the name Canaan to a figure that was cursed and designated to be forever subservient to 'his brothers' because it fitted their colonial, genocidal or expansionist agenda. The name Canaan was (and continues to be) a very popular surname in Lebanon and Syria and was a term describing tribal nationality since before the supposed exodus account.

As I understand it Canaan is a Phoenician word for Serpent Kings, and imo denotes the fact Canaan was a colony of Egypt after the campaigns of Tutmoses III whose siege of Megiddo exactly mimic the biblical account of Jericho, even down to the counting of hands, looting of bodies, the narrow path access and use of ropes to enter the city. What we have is 2 egyptian colonies one of the Sun worshipping Egyptians and a more northern establishment following the Moon worship of Arkenahten at Tyre, aka Troy, as Jews begin their day at 6pm not 6am. They were well known to worship the stars, and in fact it was their knowledge of the constellations that is encoded in the Bible and allowed them to navigate the Mediterranean at night. Israel is the Phoenician word for Saturn aka El, fruit of Isis and Ra. This would also explain the accounts of a great war at Meggido (Armegeddon) which sat at the border of the two territories

Hmm, as a long time Bible reader... i NEVER thought of the Canaanites as mere punching bags. The Israelites were ordered by kill off 6 tribes, all of which were associated with the nephilim... the rest of the Canaanites were to be slowly driven out of the land because of their practice of child sacrifice, so that the Israelites would not adopt their practice -- but they did not drive them out and they did adopt the child sacrifice practice. However per the scriptures, people like Rahab, a Canaanite, married into the Israelites and into the lineage of King David.

@@about2mount I would like to make a few points here. As I stated before the Canaanites always existed now to that point God only designated the Hamites land out of Noah's 3 sons. King Melchizedek was the King over the land of Canaan which is Ham seed. JERUSALEM was built by the Caanites before the Israelites/Hebrews ever existed because Abraham was known as the first Hebrew. He changed his name from Abram to Abraham. Abraham would become the father of many nations and his seed will grow in numbers. Abra-Ham is the the orgins of the Afro-Asiatic language. The Israelite tongue comes from the Hamites first and branched off to Western Asia. S-hem is Ham in the so called semitc language because of the vowels are interchangeble. Shem the semites means half Semi half of Hem/Ham-Asia. With that said just go through the genealogy of the Bible because Ham and Shem have always shared lands and bloodlines. From the very beginnings. Noah had 2 Ethiopian wives, Moses had Ethiopian wife, Solomon had Ethiopian wife, some dwell even dwell in the lands of Kush and had families of Ham etc.. Paul was mistaken for a Egyptian, Joseph and Moses. Jesus was sent to Egypt to hide. The Western Asian people looked identical to the Africans in Ancient times the East North Asians was more pale and had different features mixed with the Western Asians to become what we have today. Go look up depictions of the ancient Elamites they look like bearded Africans. The Island Elephanttine is Upper Egypt and they still look very much African different from the Lower Egypt. The Hebrews spent many years on that Island but that population never changed unlike the Lower Egypt. Which many migrations of other seeds changed the scope of the population. Tarahka the Ethiopian/Egyptian King saved the African Hebrews from the East North Asians that being the Syrians. You can also look up those images and see the very short hair kinky bearded orginal Asiactics. Why would Hebrews spend time amongst the Africans of Upper Egypt? Why would Hebrews ask the Ethiopian to save them? Also from my understanding it's the opposite away around Abraham gave tribute to Melchizedek in the form of tithes .

I wonder if anyone has done any work with genetic samples from the Ghassulian populations (4500-3500 BCE) specifically. I've read that general linguists seems to assume that they were pre-Semitic languages, but I don't understand how they come to that conclusion. There doesn't seem to have been a huge population turnover between the Natufians and the iron age, why/how would there be a significant linguistic change ? Alternatively, most of what I have read seems to indicate that the Ghassulian culture was a recent immigrant culture, which makes me wonder if they might not represent the incursion of Semitic languages into Asia ... is there a connection to say, the Badarian culture of the Nile (?)

The plagues are likely real outcomes of one of the Thera/Santorini eruptions that were one or more absolutely catastrophic climate destroying events between 1450 and 1150 BCE. These absolutely destroyed Mycenaean and Minoan civilization and very much weakened Hittites who collapsed later but soon after. The plagues do logically follow in an order reflecting likely effects on the Nile ecosystem of an eruption about that far away. They seem to have been reported twice a couple hundred years apart, and they match fairly closely the Exodus list. There is a theological explanation of the later plagues in Tuts time. That being that the old gods wanted Amarna abandoned and their worship resumed - which DID happen. So where did the monotheists go? Probably northeast where other monotheists - Zoroastrian predecessors - already were. And where there were a ragtag bunch of survivors of tsunamis and subsequent pirate raids in a place Egypt abandoned: Canaan.

My question to the speaker and the host is - why historians and DNA analysts link the Balkan samples to Greeks, when historically we are talking about Traco-Ilirians on the Balkans before the Greeks, or even earlier cultures - such as the Danube culture and Varna culture? Perhaps it is time to revise some historical records. It is already known that the so-called Greek DNA has a strong African component and it is not the most representative of the Balkan DNA. Using inaccurate labels has caused so much damage to our historical reccords - perhaps a broader framework will enable a better interpretation. Tracian tombs, ceramic vessels, golden artifacts, and ceramic plates precede the Greeks on the Balkans and some Mediterranean civilizations with at least 1000 years. I would like to suggest also more light on the Phrygians and the Gaelic kingdom in Anatolia and on the Balkans - to start bringing to surface those hidden migrations of people and cultures in these pre-history times. Let's use this wonderful program - to revise the historical misconceptions, and not to reinforce them! A suggestion also is to look at the work of Evgeni Delev - the genetics of the Bulgarians - for more light on the Balkan migrations.

@@jasona3884 Esau (Edom) lived in the area of Mt. Seir (modern Jordan) to the Negev (modern Israel.) That includes the area between the Dead Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba. Edom also can mean "red" ... The color of Esau's body hair according to the Bible. The red also refers to the red sandstone in what was once ancient Edom. The Torah discusses *Esau/Edom* vs. his younger twin brother *Jacob* But it is referring to the types portrayed by Jacob and Esau, the *sons of Issac* and Rebecca *Jacob* = God followers/peace vs. *Esau* = Rejecting God/anger/war The ancient Jews referred to the Romans as being warlike. It didn't help that the Roman client king of Biblical infamy was an Edomite named Herod the Great. He was a great builder but he was a really, nasty violent man. So, that was another philosophical link between Edom/Esau and Rome. The Torah discusses a similar analogy used earlier to describe *Issac* and *Ishmael* the *sons of Abraham* Issac was the son God promised to Abraham and Sarah. Ishmael was the son by Sarah's Egyptian maid named Hagar. (It was Sarah to encouraged Abraham to lay with Hagar) *Issac* = the child of promise. vs. *Ishamael* = "Wild ass of a man" fighting with everyone (He eventually repented)

Natufians are the maternal ancestors of the Canaanites, as the Canaanites invaded and took Natufian wives. But the YDNA of Canaan was J2. The same blue eyed people that Israeli studies are saying transformed the ancient levant 6500 years ago. J is the brother group of I And K, and form the IJK parent group. I-YDNA is heavy for blue eyes and so are numerous branches of K such as R1a and R1b. Its safe to say that these bloodlines, including J, originally comprised of many blue eyed people, but due to intermixing with certain lineages those traits were lost for the most part. In the case of the Canaanites it was due to them taking Natufian wives. Blue eyes and blonde/red hair are recessive so they would quickly be lost, but still pop up here and there. Natufians male ydna was E1b, and Natufian men likely did survive the invasion / transformation. That said, for the most part, the Natufians as a people were wiped out.

From an Old Testament point of view, the perverse cultures that satiated the region reviled the Hebrew god. Namely, he intensely despised the Egyptian culture which he considered riddled with perversion and immorality. He also hated the idolatry and practices of the various tribes in and around Canaan -- particularly the practice of child sacrifice as attributed to the idol Molech. He so despised child sacrifice that the penalty for any parent who did so was death by stoning. To rectify this situation he commissioned the Hebrews, whom he allegedly liberated from Egypt, to occupy Canaan which he designated the promised land and to destroy every vestige of the errant cultures. He commanded that every man, woman and child be destroyed, their livestock and their crops too. The Hebrews were then to create a model culture which others would admire for their success , high morality and fair dealings. They would hence wish to partake of the blessings of the Hebrew god to cash in on the peace and prosperity offered to this god's worshipers and adherents. He offered his blessings and guaranteed military success if the Hebrews followed his commandments and the law of Moses. This is the origin of the chosen people label.

@@AllenBethea Natufians are Neolithic period. Not Bronze Age. The Canaanites belong to Haplogroup J2b. Haplogroup J was the most dominant Haplogroup in the Levant in the Bronze and Iron Age. The haplogroup you are referring to is E1b1b-M123/M34/M84. This haplogroup never left the Levant.

One one level, I thought the presentation was a good starting point. However, the info about mixed races and types of blending producing Isrealites, Canaanites and Philistines leaves many unanswered questions about the timeline and the outside impact of invaders and how much mixing took place to produce a linguistically or culturally differentiated race of people. So, the relevance of the DNA sequencing is sketchy. take care rwmccoy

Jubilees 10:29-31 [29]And Canaan saw the land of Lebanon to the river of Egypt, that it was very good, and he went not into the land of his inheritance to the west (that is to) the sea, and he dwelt in the land of Lebanon, eastward and westward from the border of Jordan and from the border of the sea. [30]And Ham, his father, and Cush and Mizraim his brothers said unto him: 'Thou hast settled in a land which is not thine, and which did not fall to us by lot: do not do so; for if thou dost do so, thou and thy sons will fall in the land and (be) accursed through sedition; for by sedition ye have settled, and by sedition will thy children fall, and thou shalt be rooted out for ever. [31]Dwell not in the dwelling of Shem; for to Shem and to his sons did it come by their lot.

Canaanites were from the line of Ham, Noah's son. Hams son Canain(var sp). They were not entitled to the land as Noah divided the lands and this area was Shems land. This is only one reason they had to be evicted the others had to do with evil worship against Yahweh.

Oh dear, Razib Khan. I for one haven't gotten past his association with far right (and very racist-right at that) publishers and polemicists. He may have decided to part ways with them, but I don't know that (as he's not AFAIK written a public refutation of his former associates.) Nevertheless, Razib mentioned Israel Finkelstein. Finkelstein is neither reactionary nor revolutionary by academic standards, but Finkelstein is a thorn in the sides of religious fundamentalists. Finkelstein's work, along with the work of his colleagues, illustrates that the claims of the Jewish tradition (as encoded in the 2nd Temple Judaism writings and redactions in what Christians call the OT) of a Jewish conquest of the "promised land" are not true. There was no real conquest, just as there was no real exodus. Thus, the inhabitants of ancient Israel were just upland Canaanite populations, in contrast to the biblical assertions of who were the "Canaanites" ( who were in fact just the low land (closer to the sea) population.)

DNA studies show that the DNA studies indicate the Israelites were Canaanites. The language of the Israelites was a Canaanite language as well.
