Team USA made a team specifically to beat Canada. They didn't. Now what. Also damn, someone tell Phil Kessel to chill!

You know what else is disrespectful? Not naming Phil Kessel to the team, who by the way, is a Stanley Cup Champion.
@Flaris7 жыл бұрын
If any players were offended by Kessel's tweet. Too damn bad. Guess Team USA was built with a lot of grit and toughness, but weren't tough enough to shrug that comment off. And its hilarious which players spoke up about this. All guys Kessel should have been on that team instead of. If the US was picking a skilled team to actually try and win then none of those guys are on the roster. A lot of guys ripped into Team USA. Former players, other current players like Bobby Ryan. But it's Kessel who is targeted by the guys who got eliminated. Despite his tweet being less targeted than most. I think those guys are the ones that need to chill.

I think that what rubs people the wrong way about Kessel is that he has a healthy sense of perspective. Dude is a cancer survivor. Dude is lucky to be playing the game he loves for money. So instead of being a GOOD CANADIAN KID DONCHAYNO, he has fun with it. He doesn't take it too seriously, because it's a game. Hockey fans in general have a severe case of Wes Welker Syndrome. I attribute this, at least in America, to hockey's relative lack of popularity compared to football and basketball. Whenever Jonathan Toews doesn't say "I" or "me" and LeBron James does, hockey fans absolutely cream themselves. So to see a hockey player who just coasts and enjoys himself, instead of being a hard-working gritty guy (yanno, like Tanner Glass!), pisses people off. It undermines their idea of hockey as a sport of muckers and grinders who aren't as *entitled* or *gifted* as those people in the NFL and NBA. So go Phil Kessel. Continue making it look so easy people will suspect you aren't Hard Working. Continue winning now that you finally have a coach who knows how to use you. And above all - enjoy it.

You know I was thinking the same thing, might hurt his chances in the future. But the time to put him on the team was now. Not getting any younger. They desperately needed goals and left off too many scorers. End of story.
@Flaris7 жыл бұрын
I honestly doubt it does. If the guys picking the team now are the same guys picking it for the Olympics (if they go) or future international events then they wouldn't too much skill anyways. If they aren't, then the ones he was poking fun at with that tweet aren't going to make the decision if he's there or not. And yeah it probably doesn't matter. This was the prime time to put him on the team and go for it. If he doesn't get picked going forward, the impact isn't going to be that severe.

I think the chant the Swedes were doing is actually an Icelandic football/soccer chant. Could be wrong, but it seems very similar. Anyway, was a good game. Happy to se Canada win and Torts lose.
@herald0fmanwe7 жыл бұрын
This is correct, it was an Icelandic soccer chant that became popular in many European countries after Iceland's fans did it after games at the European Championship this summer.

It's been around much longer since the Iceland Soccer team kind of made it famous to everyone. All the hardcore footy fans got really pissed at people when other teams started "stealing" it. Believe it started on a small town soccer team in England a while back.

The Swedish chant thing was actually started by Celtic in the Scottish Premier League for one of the Icelandic players on their team (because vikings), but it was made famous this summer in Euro 2016 (European international football/soccer tournament) by the Icelandic people against England where the brought down the not so great English team (with a terrible coach) 2-1. Fun fact, more than 90% of Icelandic television sets were tuned into that match.

People feel sorry for Tortorella? I guess that is true if you exclude US Hockey twitter. Because that that part of twitter was awash with seething and angry people, some of whom were upset with the team itself, but a lot of it was directed at Tortorella and the management that selected this team. And it's all fair in all honesty, they said that they built this team with the intention of beating Canada, and they didn't even do that. I would know, I'm one of those seething angry US hockey fans.
@clemmer17947 жыл бұрын
The US played up that game so much because hockey is not popular at in here in the US and they were just trying to make people watch the game. Trust me even if the US were a great team most of the country still wouldn't care which is sad.

Canada has been superior in producing hockey players, as long as I've been watching hockey. Don't know about the rest of you, but I'm fine, and grateful for it. Look up and down their roster, and see how many actually play for Canadian NHL teams. That would be 2. Carey Price, and Shea Weber. Wonder why Stamkos didn't consider a bigger paycheck, and play for his hometown team? Just guessing that he wants to compete for the Stanley cup, on a yearly basis. That, and the fact come February, where would you rather be? Toronto, or Tampa? So, thank you Canada! Enjoy your tournament wins, and gold medals! And if you want to see the Stanley cup. You can always go to Toronto, and see it in the NHL hall of fame. Or you can wait for one of your native sons, to bring it back from the American team their on, that just won it.
