We made the Q-finals in 1991; now we can't beat the US or any other Tier 2 nation. We've only regressed, not improved. Cheers for your charitable words but Rugby Canada is in a terrible state and Jones is not the man to get this done.

Well done Canada, truly a class act. Of course it was a tough but you're only going to improve. Coach is spot on about needing to give tier 2 nations more opportunities against tier 1s. All the best against the Boks.

I agree with most of the other comments: Well done Canada! You fought right to the end and never gave up. Plus, you continued to be competitive, rather than collapsing over the final 15 to 20 minutes. (Poor USA after holding France, collapsed in the last 14 minutes!) Cheers from NZ

Tyler, you’re a legend. I hope you lead the team for a long, long time. Watched the game in Kenya with a pack of AB fans (none kiwi) and was proud, most tackles were made (and well!) and pressure was applied. Looking forward to you putting your stamp on the Boks game. Go hard boys!!!!!

World Rugby you need to help these tier 2 teams throwing money at them ain't the answer. They need more games against Top Teams cause 3 games against tier 1 teams in four years is a joke. Great effort Canada should be proud considering the lack of help you get.

@Sami Tiger last week Eddie Jones said credit to World Rugby for driving tier 2 development obviously put these teams up against the All Blacks you see how far they have developed alright not much. So they need to organize something before the next World Cup.

The All Blacks need to scrap the end of year northern tour. They make barely any money from it as the gate numbers go to the home side. It should just be a June series against one northern team, the rugby championship, and a series against tier 2 teams at the end of the year. I personally think a 3 game series against Japan would make Japan a tier 1 nation. The northern tour doesn’t help the All Blacks who are always fatigued at that stage and have exhausted most of their game plans that were used in the rugby championship.

Jones is right about the culture, but as a young player in Canada, and who has represented my province and been selected for U17 west Canada camp, I have become disillusioned with the lack of options for players on the west coast. and I feel that not enough is being done to improve the standards of rugby in my country, form highschool to mens club level and above.
@jennafarrell57835 жыл бұрын
Canada should do the school boys competition in the southern hemisphere.. NZ sends the Under 13's to the under 17's teams to Australia to compete, this has been done for over 20years.. they play for a week against the best teams Aussie has to offer. I'm sure Canada could send a couple of teams this way. As a kiwi, I think Canada should be proud of their performance, they played the best sports team in the world! They didn't give up, showed great heartiness.. everyone was expecting a point a minute from the all blacks but Canada said NO! Lol. Good luck with the rest of the tournament.
@Schnitz135 жыл бұрын
Amen. It's the same in every province except BC: at least there rugby is promoted ahead of gridiron football. Everywhere else is still in the thrall of the NFL. The CFL is a dying game and needs to be done away with and replaced by an emphasis on rugby: more skills and team fitness involved, fewer catastrophic injuries, lower insurance costs for schools, can field multiple sides instead of just the senior football teams... So many reasons in Canada to ditch rugby but too many heads stuck in the sand...

Sadly world rugby has given the tier two nations crumbs from the table. This is what you get, all you need to do is look at the Canadian teams of the past (They were very competitive) and tier one nations have streaked ahead leaving Canada and others standing still. What world rugby has done is a diagrace!!!

Can somebody please explain how an ex colony of France and Britain has not been able to be at least as good as Scotland in rugby?
@drzoidberg15 жыл бұрын
No enough opportunities to progress beyond local rep teams. Kingsley said it in the press conference: we need more professional exposure.
@MyNameMeansGiftFromGod5 жыл бұрын
I understand that that is the present situation. What I do not understand is why Canada ended up being tier two nation when they had heavy influences from Britain and France from the beginning. I would have thought that rugby would have had a strong foothold in Canada when the sport came into being, just like Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. It could be the US had greater influence on Canada. Thanks for the response.
@RainCity3rd5 жыл бұрын
@@MyNameMeansGiftFromGod Maybe just other sports for the boys to play growing up? It seems like is was fairly popular in the early 1900s still so my guess was that as professionalism of other sports specifically hockey, basketball and hockey grew, it pulled interest from the rest and then when professionalism of rugby took off in the big nations those nations grew rugby over other sports. In France for example rugby was mostly popular in the south west and while that has grown with professionalism, there are some really small towns that have a lot of national titles still. It an interesting question to ponder though!
@drzoidberg15 жыл бұрын
@@MyNameMeansGiftFromGod Canada's highest ranking was 8th. They have beaten 6 nation countries (back when it was 5 nations). Canada used to pound the US, Japan and was even with Argentina. And it looks like you understand the present situation on how we have slipped in the rankings. There is an issue with pro level exposure at the top but I think there is a larger issue of diminishing players at the club level as well. So we are getting whacked twice, a smaller pool to draw our best and then not keeping pace with other nations on giving our best exposure to top level rugby. It takes more than just being a former colony 150 years ago. Things change over time and there are lots of dynamics involved.

This guy's having a laugh. He's Canada's ONLY coach. They have no forwards coach, no backs coach, no specialized coaches or trainers of any kind--just Jones. His choice.
