Theses are just some of my thoughts on the day to day life in Canada. I’ve talked with many people and they experience these things too. Some students commuted suicide in The university of Toronto and in VIU - Vancouver Island University in British Columbia witnessed a suicide by a student recently too.
What are your thoughts and please correct me if I’m wrong. Mental health is important!

After coming to Canada I have realized that a poor fisherman (who earns $10 a day) in my home country is happier than a graduate in Canada. He does not need to worry about bills, credit cards, loans, rents

I am so flustered with Canada, I just don't get it. Why the frack do people live there!? It's like the only country in the world where it's almost impossible to get a stable income with a trade (even with the oil patch!). It's like everyone and their dog, grandma and great grandchildren was told to learn a trade and go to the oil patch. The job market absolutely sucks in the oil patch. The working conditions suck, the weather sucks and you're treated like garbage. Everyone is bending over backwards for these greedy/cruel oil companies. Wages are stagnating. Work is volatile. Meanwhile in France there's construction everywhere, nobody wants to learn a trade and get dirty. So there are thousands of vacant jobs to be filled and nobody cares. So yeah, I'm a Canadian living in France. Canada can eat my shit and burn, I don't care.

Sweetheart, the certificate is worth the hard work, it won't come easy. Some of us went through it, came out very successful, proud and happy even though we are much older. Its a foreign land where the certificate is inestimable, just learn how to get through the door the right way and the sky will be your limit. No back door in those countries, I'm glad I successfully acquired my degrees the hard way. I thank the system for providing all the facilities to make one succeed, please patiently go through it and take advantage of it. When it's morning each day I look through the Window to see the stars and the mountains, praying in my heart for God to level that grounds for me. The hope for a better tomorrow makes easy to take. You even have student loans over there to help you go to school, i couldn't even access such when i was going to school way back and neither can my children because Nigerian does have such great plans for her youths. No jobs for millions of youths even now. In all things my dear give thanks and keep your switch of faith turned on. I didn't understand the parting hard until you explained. Thanks for this video.

@Image of God i think we are both on different pages, as my points are so far from yours. When i went to University in 1992 I didn't have that privilege and most certainly would have loved a system that allowed me to take a loan to advance myself academically and pay back afterwards. Its not the questions of the number of children per household but that we have a government that has no plans and has never had for its youths nor the elderly. Bear in mind that if the countries that harbour our youths even today for whatever reason had no plans and packages that allows the youths benefit by advancing them edcuational loans and pay back afterwards, this discussion wouldn't even be taking place right now. I maintain that if Nigeria had no plan back then to help its youth advance their careers and still do not have..... Then God help us.

You're not alone man. Lived here in the GTA my whole life. The government here does what it does best and sweeps all the problems under a rug while pretending the country is perfect. Even a lot of Canadians out there refuse to acknowledge anything but the truth is, we got some serious economic and social issues. A high cost of living but low wages/salaries. Degrees that trapped us in debt, and landed us a job we didn't study for if were even lucky to land something. Then there's traffic. Horrible Public Transportation and alternatives. Long Commute times. Cold and Dark 8 months out of 12. There is still a lot of systemic discrimination and general racism. Overall, I am seeing people slowly breaking apart and becoming depressed as time goes on...but everyone out there, will have you believe, everything is just fine.

As a mixed race person, I'm constantly surprised by American friendliness whether they were from New York or Georgia. I find Canadians seem more bigoted but it could also be me misunderstanding their reserved personality.

Difference between Canada and America, when I was in Ohio, US, I made White-American friends I am still in contact with, but in Canada, it is so racially segregated, white dudes only hang with whites, brown dudes only hang with brown dudes, black dudes only hang with black dudes, etc. I have zero White Canadian friends (who are majority in this country so they are the majority of the option of being friends with). Only different culture friends I have are recent immigrants. As a brown dude, most of the time I get looks of hate directed at me, very rarely anyone wants to smile or get to know me. I am thinking of moving to South America or Caribbeans once my student debts are paid off. Based on online friendships and online dating in South America, Caribbeans, and Mexico, seems like I am welcomed and wanted. In Canada, I am just another brown immigrant being hated 24/7.

This may not get any traction because this comment is very late, but there is one thing people are only just recently are starting to understand about living in a northern climate. This goes for Canadians who have lived here forever and people who are new to canada. When you live in a northern climate you have to change your diet. You can NOT be healthy on a high carbohidrate diet in a northern climate. You will perk up a little bit in the summer time, but in the winter time you need to take D3 supplements. The other problem is the recommended d3 intake given by the canadian government is wrong due to a miscalculation of a study done almost 60 years ago. It states you need 500 iu's of d3 per day, in reality you need 5000. In the winter time in canada you have to stand in the sun uncovered for over 2 hours, so you are getting NO d3 in the winter. This will cause depression, and weight gain. On top of this, a high carbohydrate diet will also cause depression, and certain plant foods will also inhibit your body's production of vitamin D. This compounds to create a serious mental problem, I myself was suffering from this. Once I cut all sugars and carbohydrates out of my diet and started supplementing d3 all of this went away. There is a reason people from a northern climate subsist on a high fat low sugar diet, because you do not have sunshine to help with the difficiencies in a high vegetable diet, and the vegetables are not available in the winter. So please, if you are coming from another country where it is typically hot, you may think it impossible to give up things like rice, or bread, and fruit, but you must at least try to do it in the winter, aim for less than 20 grams of carbohydrates. If you simply must have some rice, try to limit it to less than 100g, and you MUST exercise heavily the same day to burn up that sugar to keep your insulin levels down, and try to only eat 1 to 2 meals a day. If you do this you will not have to rely on nasty prescription drugs, but please do consult your doctor if you are still feeling depressed, as it could also just be a mental disorder, which could still need some sort of medication.

My wife, my 3 kids and I used to like Vancouver but not anymore!!! The weather is why we plan to leave for good but also the expensive rents! I also heard about horror stories at many hospitals (and yes, I have worked in Africa and to be honest, Africans hospitals are way more functional than the ones in Canada in terms of human aspect… there they care, Canadians do not give a shit about anyone!!! And I am saying this as a Belgian!!! I have some African colleagues at work here and at least 80 percent of them either want to go back to Africa (one is actually going to start an Afro business there and build his own house) or move to Europe (one of them plans to live to my homeland Belgium and two others in France as apparent the pensions there are way better than the Canadian one) as soon as they get enough experience in canada! None of us at work , including me, want to retire or get old here in Canada! For me personally, it is the Canadian extreme loneliness and lack of willingness to open to others that really shuts me down… I am fed up and and tired of paying taxes in a country where some (not all) hospitals and some retirement homes treat patients like … objects, not human beings! I now understand (as before I did not) why even some of my African colleagues are looking forward to go back to Africa or to some of them, immigrate to Europe! .. none of us want to be left alone and depressed in this so highly individualistic and unfriendly, falsely “cool” country called Canada… a country that claims America and France are racist countries when not even one CEO in Canada is coloured! I am also fed up of Canadians being cool!!!! Cool???? Yes, their humour is crap and they are all too serious… not astonishing why so many end up being depressed or on meds to be able to function! Last: I am fed up with 1. The stupid credit score system which makes North Americans anxious and frustrated!!!! Stupidity does not even exist in France or Belgium where I am from! 2.food is Canada is … not good…lol… really close to being bad! 3.the country is boring… reason… people are so disciplined and nothing happens!!! I just miss Europe even if we are far from being perfect and I prefer our imperfections to the Canadian perfect society which end up making people boring and annoying!!! 4. Canadians are shallow compared to us Europeans 5. Their transit system sucks if compared to Europe 6. Health care system is nothing comptable to what we got in Europe!!!! Result: I leave Canada years before retirement as The last thing I want for me is to remain in a country and get “sunk” Into Canadian depression, Canadian loneliness and Canadian “coolness”. Ohh just as an indicator, it is really rare to see someone who is happy in Vancouver BC these days… the city just looks like a factory to make people work, make Canadian banks richer and pay taxes! Apart from that, I do not give a damn about the beautiful scenery and lakes as long as everyone around gets scammed with unjustified and ridiculous high cost of living!!!

I've worked in psych units for 3 years, and now in corrections for a year and I can tell you firsthand this country is breaking apart. So much corruption in the government - but most of all, we are all taxed to death here and mental health support and resources are limited. It's so damn hard to succeed in this country. 10 years ago my parents bought a house in my home city for 180k, that same house is now worth 500k. I can't afford to live in the city I grew up in - even with a government job. The tax rates are just absurd here too - over 50% of my income goes to taxes. Can't even afford childcare here and rentals are 1500$+ a month everywhere without utilities included. Canada is not an easy place to live by any stretch - and it's a very unforgiving country if you do find success because of the tax rates. People are breaking down and there is little funding and resources available for mental health - the correctional system is also overloaded as more people are turning to crime to survive. The police are also overloaded and scrape by with the funding they have to do their jobs with.

I'm an immigrant to Canada too and I can relate with how you're feeling. It can definitely be difficult to balance your life sometimes. Students have it hard especially because they have so much pressure coming at them from different directions while they are just trying to establish them selves in life. My advice would be to take it a day at a time, focus on the things you can control, and don't get distracted with things that you can't influence or have no lasting benefit to you. Learning to juggle responsibilities and priorities is one of the most important things you can do at your stage of life.

Hey brother u are completely right. People live in denial and want to appear happy all the time. When you talk about the pressure and mental health problems involved, no one wants to pay attention. But this shit is real men.....I am a Nigerian and I have been suffering from depression when I was a teenager mainly from pressures from society and parents to be the best especially in academics. I dont really know the actual cause of depression but it happened to me. There are people that are able to manage these pressures so well and there are some that struggle. Through out my academic life I struggled with mental health and suicide thoughts. So I can relate to what you are saying. People especially Nigerian parents should learn to be open and pay attention and talk about mental health issues with their kids, especially during their academic years because this struggle is really tough especially for some very sensitive personalities. Some may be able to handle it and some may not be able to. Thank you for openly talking about this struggle.

It is incredibly unfortunate the way the system is, especially for international students. The fees are often unattainable and nearly impossible to sustain over the length of a university degree. Additionally, seasonal depression is a very real thing for many Canadians based on the lack of sun throughout the year. We hope that you are doing okay and want to let you know that everyone is dealing with something! We want to make sure we are there to help as many students as we can with our videos!

I live in Taiwan, a weather you would wish for. But I envy Canadian weather... Here's why: I see Taiwanese dating and fondeling, while we foreigners are ignored and must not get near female students. Instead of date we get "learn Chinese" or "go read a book, don't make girls uncomfortable". So yeah I prefer winter clothing than the one I have to see. I actually sleep during daylight to see less people, because they're so shy (what they say) and arrogant (what I believe)

I don’t know if you’re coming from experience but I lived in both places and found Sweden much friendlier, peaceful and comfortable space than Canada. To be fair in Canada I can only speak for Toronto, but in Sweden I’ve lived all over the place. It was much easier to socialize, find a job and feel at pease here. I think I’m one of those people who prefers Europe to Americas overall, since I’m originally European. The biggest difference for me was the level of superficiality in Canada which is much lower in Sweden.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am a Mexican guy who had the opportunity to visit Canada a couple of times and I kind of understand what you said. When I was 17 my dream was to live in Canada, now I'm 21 and that dream doesn't exist anymore. There is so much pressure from all sides. Although I prefer to live in my homeland, I feel so much pressure here as well. I study economics, it could "fill" (probably not) my pockets but not my emptiness. I would like to study philosophy but that's not allowed by my parents, I hope one day overcome all this suffering of not being myself. I end up with debts( student loan) and did voluntaring in HR, the gov push you too,,,,,,,when I saw the garbage in a small company and large company, could not take it no more,,,the owner told me to sort the resumes and call people that I think for interviews,,,,He told me to hire the one who has the most education and mostly important the candidate who ask the lowest for salary,,,other wise dont hire,,,,they hire someone with good experience in trade for $ 15 dollars an hour, just for a trial,,,and ask to do first month voluntaring.. Canada is just a complete greedy system, that gov doesnt care about own people just about thefts/owners. Not everyone is a boss, but we must live decent( pretending we live in Canada)........

And then everybody back home expects you to send money bluh bluh. Personally, it's mostly been exhaustion but also feeling trapped in a way. That feeling however keeps me pushing forward. I understand this pressure can bring mental breakdown to some, and needs to be addressed in the Canadian society.
